Jamrock3, I spend a whole lotta time on YouTube! There are some real reggae throwbacks on there. Much less calypso, sad to say. But I need to bring some soca to the site, I think it’s about time!

Bullet!!! Bullet!!! There are some artist that you just know when you grow up in the Caribbean, and Dennis Brown is one of them. Just Like Bob Marley, Lord Kitchener and Sparrow his music is intrinsic. You don’t know how it comes to pass but you find that one day you know all the words to sitting & watching. His Loss was truly tragic, and made the issues of drug addiction & HIV (whether it was just speculation or fact) alot more real to me.

Dennis Brown is one of my all time faves
I cried the morning I woke up and heard it on the news that he had died. And imagine my shock a few years later when I met one of his attending nurses and she told me the real deal. He died from pneumonia which was a complication of a well known disease, which still, us as Caribbean people like to pretend does not exist, unless we have to do a P.S.A or pretend to have a social conscience. It’s scary to me that almost 10 years later, our artistes and by extension our society still don’t get it.
