I just want to clarify and prevent any misperceptions – no one “shut us down”.

Two years ago when I needed to launch j.blossom and knew my tiny kitchen was too small for my big plans, I called nearly 100 places to rent a commercial kitchen facility and was turned down 99 times, even though I had a $1 million business insurance policy and was using food-grade natural ingredients. A friend of a friend had a natural hair salon and also space for a barbershop, but the barber shop didn’t work out. She graciously let j.blossom sublease the former barber shop space and I converted it into a commercial kitchen studio. When all those other places said no, she said yes — she didn’t even hesitate — and she became my landlord because I was subleasing the space. We had a great landlord-tenant relationship and in the process became close friends.

She recently decided to close her hair salon, and that’s how I lost the sublease. She has been nothing but 100% supportive of j.blossom since day 1, and I am grateful for the opportunity she gave me when others wouldn’t take a chance on my company. I always knew I would grow out of the space, and so now’s the time to look for something bigger.

Oh, and with a methadone clinic that just moved in to us next door in our building, and a bullet hole in the front window of the car insurance office on the corner of our building, it is DEFINITELY time for j.blossom to move!
