I loveeee Skype! My siblings live in another country so I use it to keep in touch. The picture/sound quality isn’t too bad and it’s a lot cheaper than calling cards

I love Skype! My parents, brothers and I all live in different states. Skype has been wonderful in allowing us to “see” each other more often. My mom is so hip to the game, that when they were in Chile and Argentina we got to “tour” a little bit with them as she showed us some of their surroundings. Love it!

I use gmail’s video chat on a fairly regular basis to chat with friends and to see our godchildren. An added bonus — it prompts me to pay extra attention to my facial expressions and posture. Not okay to look bored or distracted when you’re on the “phone” with your loved ones!

Hi Afrobella,
I use skype daily to talk to my boyfriend overseas. It has its issues occasionally, but is so much cheaper than phone cards that it’s worth it for us. But, I think that a USB mike is even more important to the Skype experience than a webcam.

I used skype to call my sister in Australia, phone to phone, cell phone to house phone. I love it. It’s way cheaper than anything else. I’m trying to get her husband to set it up on their computer so we can talk for free.

LOVE Skype. My hubby was the first to use it; he has a business partner in China with whom he uses Skype for calls exclusively. Our phone bill would be astronomical consdering they could be on the phone for 2-3 hours at a time, easily! It took me a while to have a reason for it, but I first started using Skype when I was planning our destination wedding. Now I use it even within the states for the video feature mostly….esp for big moments like birth of a new baby, etc. who it may be months before I’ll be able to see in person.

There have been a lot of dropped calls and temporary loss of connection here along the way, but the benefits far outweight the inconvenience of redialing!
