Mo’Nique’s Hollywood Victories

Precious is a hard film to watch. It is a polarizing film, to be certain. But there is one undeniable truth about Precious that I don’t think even Armond White could deny — Mo’Nique turns in one hell of a performance. I called it from the moment I saw the movie — her performance was ferocious. Take no prisoners. Oscar bait.

Now it’s awards season and Mo’Nique is raking them in.

At the Golden Globes she gave an emotional speech as she won her award.

Sam Fine did her makeup, and Mo’Nique looked amazing! Check out Blaq Vixen Beauty for the details on her look.

And now at the Screen Actors’ Guild awards, she was awarded the trophy for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role.

I see Oscar glimmering in her future.

Of course, critics are mad about the fact that this particular role is being celebrated by Hollywood. And still others are mad for a far more superficial reason — that Mo’Nique finds a way to show off her notoriously hairy legs on the red carpet. But despite my personal feelings about leg hair — I am happy for Mo’Nique. It’s wonderful to see a woman work hard to get where she is, and then reap the rewards for that hard work. Mo’Nique is at an amazing crossroads in her career. I can’t wait to see what films she chooses next!

  1. I don’t care what people say about the negative image of blacks in “Precious.” This movie is REALity and so was Mo’Nique’s role. The Oscar is hers to lose.

  2. LOL @ the hairy legs…but Mo is mad talented and sooo funny. I agree Precious was hard to watch, but she turned in a killer performance. Congrats to her!!!

  3. I agree with Jennifer, bugs me that people are bugged by that. Be bugged by the reality of this situation…and sorry for the horrible grammer LOL.

And this isn’t just a black issue. I’m happy for Monique I hope Gabourey brings some home also she was excellent, especially the accent and not having acted before…..haven’t heard of her wins if she has already.

I’ve always been a Mo fan, she’s funny and real. I’m happy for her.

  5. I am not a fan of Mo’Nique’s hairy legs but you cannot deny, she played one hell of a role in Precious. I know she had to come out of herself as a survivor to play such a mean and cruel woman. She was believable, so much so that I had to keep reminding myself she was acting.

    She will win the Oscar.

    Go Mo!

my, she looks amazing. though I am not co-signing her hairy legs and arms her gown, her face and how she worked it-amazing. she may be one of these woman who get more and more beautiful with the years. We┬┤ll have to wait over here (germany) until Precious is in the cinemas, if at all, because some ppl think we have not the audience (read: ppl of color and black ppl, which is so not true and what is this all about, I think it might be interesting for white ppl , too)but I will definitely see this film, even I have to wait until I can order my dvd via amazon.com.

  7. We all know that Monique is going to do what she wants, when she wants and how she wants. She don’t care if people have a problem with her hairy legs. I am proud of her! You Go Mo!
