avoid at all costs... Aveda has been trying to draw in ethnic business and even had a casting call for african americans and people in general with ethnic hair..
I called and spoke with christina at the salon and she assured me that they would have no problem "doing" my daughters hair.
Long story short they burned and damaged my daughters natural hair and when we stopped them midway and began to complain...they proceeded to tell us that ther person who does that type of hair called out..
First of all, hair is hair..when I walk into a salon in upper manhattan owned and operated by a dominican woman..she whips and flips both of our textures with the same rollerset process...hair is hair... I wanted to give my daughter a new and upscale experience...one where we dont have to sit in the salon for 10 hours..not worth it.
furthermore why would you even attempt to do her hair if you were not comfortable..that is just unprofessional and morally wrong..
they maybe able to do straight hair/wavy hair but the fact that they chose to decieve us and especially a 13 year old girl who is trying to find her natural beauty and not try to conform to societies idea of beauty, is detestable... stay away if not for your hair sake but for the sake of principle

I'll support any business that's going to do right by me. Remember, black salons have screwed us over with their perm, weave mentality and where has that gotten us!

I had a wonderful time. The atmosphere was fun, the staff, the stylists were awesome and it was wonderful to see a true, genuine interest in how better can the products service a myriad of hair textures, types and styles.

Fatima from MN did my hair and I left out of there feeling exactly as she termed it: looking grown up and sexier! A big thank you for the parting gifts. I've always wanted to try a lot of their products but often times the budget doesn't allow for full purchase try outs and often times a sample will give a hint of what's to come. Thanks to gift and Fatima, I can't wait to play in my own hair. I'm feeling inspired.

Thanks again Bella and btw, your name was definetly mentioned.

I attended this morning and was selected, im really excited to see what will happen monday as well. I got there first thing at 10 so there was only about 8 people there, they eliminated a few people quickly i suppose because they already chose what they needed a majority of on Friday. I will be posting before and after pics on my twitter page. @lovepeaceOM

thanks for the head up. i went last night for the casting call and was selected to return for this coming monday. i'm curious to see what they're looking to do and how they intend on doing it. i've used their body products in the past and enjoyed them but admit to not thinking of them for natural hair care. we'll see what monday brings. i have a feeling they may open my eyes to other options.

even better, i LOVED, you hear me, LOVED seeing so many representations of "ethnic" natural hair there. all styles and hair types were there in abundance and it's not often that i see more than 4 heads of natural hair in 1 setting so woot woot! having grown up with dark and lovely being the first thing you did when you hit junior high as de rigueur, it's been a process for me to leave that idea behind. so when i see a generation behind me coming to acceptance (including my daughters) way sooner than i ever did is so wonderful.

sorry so long :-)
