I saw you on al Jazeera first time ever – great blog, very interesting for women of ethnicities other than African also. Very interesting from an empowerment vs. “dictated” beauty ideals by a very small powerful elite. You were great on the show, and I am loving to see al Jazeera, a very dear tv channel to my heart, go a little more mainstream in US media culture. It was heavily stereotyped as almost a “Bin Laden” sympathizing channel in the beginning. Its English channel is so amazing – more critical of mainstream Western and US particularly portrayals of global politics than your regular white Western financed and controlled tv channels, definitely not terrorism sympathizing. Just very thoughtful and with a more critical edge than most other English speaking channels out there. Their quality I think is shown also in this topic it adressed. It brings a natural hair debate to audiences that may not be aware of it.

Nice going! You are very articulate! The best segment I’ve seen on natural hair, thus far! Most of the others seem to always rush through. I’m glad the discussion went beyond is it a trend or fad to the significance in society, the idea of women pushing back to own their bodies, the input of ideas from other cultures–e.g. hispanic culture etc. And the comments from video and twitter from around the world were pretty interesting. Al-Jazeera is a great network!
