The whole reasoning and concept behind AT&T’s It Can Wait campaign is heavy. In case you haven’t yet seen the commercials directed by the brilliant Werner Herzog, make sure you’ve got some tissues nearby. They’ll break your heart and make you think long and hard before you dare text and drive again. That’s the point of the campaign, to drive that message home and get people to take the pledge not to text and drive because truly, honestly, IT CAN WAIT.

In order to drive the point home to everyone, AT&T came up with a series of events intended to engage influencers and get more people to take the official It Can Wait pledge to stop texting and driving. Along with my friend Tori of Glasses & Glitter, I co-hosted a special “polish party” here in Chicago, at the amazing Mojo Spa in Wicker Park.

Why a polish party, for something so serious? The idea I suggested is connected to waiting. The same way you have to wait before picking up your phone to text after getting a manicure, to make sure your nails are dry? You have to wait to text until after you’re done driving. Get it?

My amazing trainer Jen Zea (check out her classes at Phyzique)! told me about Mojo Spa because she’s hosted events there in the past. She let me know there was an amazing spa just perfect for small gatherings, and overflowing with amazing bath and body products I’d be instantly obsessed with. She was SO right. Mojo Spa is EVERYTHING and I’m fully intending to become a regular. Mojo Spa made me want to move to the neighborhood. It’s that awesome. Look.

The owner of Mojo is THE NICEST MAN. I’ll write a whole separate post on my manicure because it deserves that much attention. If you’re looking for a place to get your nails done, to get makeup done, to buy amazing locally produced makeup, bath and body products that are innovative and unique and smell incredible – GO TO MOJO.

The weather was absolutely horrendous that night, so I REALLY appreciate everyone who came out! Slowly but surely the spa filled up with friends who came to show love and support, and to learn about the It Can Wait campaign.

Thanks for coming, Tia!!! <3 itcanwaitpolishparty6

Full house!

These were yummy!

HOW cute is Thriftanista in the City’s daughter??!?

We noshed on mini doughnuts by Glazed and Infused, munched on fruit and cheese and It Can Wait decorated cookies, and got our nails done by a team of pros. And we all took the AT&T It Can Wait pledge to never text while driving.

The event went SO well, and I left the venue in a blur of happiness. And this is where it gets real and serious again. As I left the spa with my friend Jada, we’re driving in the pouring rain when BAM a taxi cab switched lanes right into the front of her car. It was dark and in the middle of a rainstorm and I sincerely hope that the cabbie WASN’T using his phone at the time. I’m OK, my friend is OK and the cabbie seemed quite OK as well. The experience just reinforced all of the lessons we were trying to share earlier and the timing was uncanny. So often when we drive, we’re distracted. By our phones, by the radio, by whatever’s around us. But it only takes a second for an accident to happen. When you drive, you have to stay so focused – because it isn’t just about you, it’s about the others around you. Focus and patience and caution are key. Always. No matter what.

Thanks to AT&T for choosing Tori and I to share such an important message, and in such a fun way. Click here to take the It Can Wait pledge.

My friends at AT&T are offering a giveaway to anyone who’s a regular texter, who’s smart enough to take the It Can Wait pledge and who promises to text responsibly. I’m giving away TWO Blackberry Z10 phones! How do you enter, how do you win?

Leave a comment below telling me that you’ve taken the It Can Wait pledge, and a random winner will be chosen next Wednesday, September 25.

– to enter you have to be living in the USA

– I’m not responsible for mailing out these items, please be aware

– please comment with your correct e mail address that you use regularly

Good luck, bellas!

The AT&T event was sponsored, and fabulous. All opinions in this post are mine. I truly believe in this cause and hope everyone takes the pledge!

So very necessary - I saw on tv last night how cops and troopers are being very serious about stopping texting while driving and saw the damage it can do. Proud of you to do this.

i took the pledge here as well as a year ago at one of the local universities after meeting a woman involved in an accident resulting from this very situation. she survived, thank goodness but has had to have numerous surgeries as a result. the other driver had the nerve when stopped by the police to feel she had done nothing wrong at all. this campaign will open more eyes to the dangers involved

I took the pledge! Texting while driving is a no-no! And while we're on this subject, texting while walking is also a no-no. If you're gonna text, Stop, move to the side, and continue to text.

I have taken dangerous routes when texting and driving, most of all when texting while driving a 5-speed manual car. Its an important move, so I will take the pledge. Do not text or drive, IT CAN WAIT!
