<p>Rare is the day that I try a product and become inspired to begin a whole new blog series, bellas. And yet here I am once again. The last time it happened, I started the <a href="http://www.afrobella.com/?s=you+deserve">You Deserve category</a> (and the product that inspired it? <a href="http://www.afrobella.com/2010/05/03/you-deserve-votre-vu-duette-luxe/">Votre Vu Duette Luxe</a>).</p>
<p>The product that inspired Lowkey Obsessed? <a href="http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/view.2/app.detail/params.item.A218671.desc.It-Cosmetics-Vitality-Lip-Flush-AntiAging-Lipstick-Trio?&amp;cookie=set">It Cosmetics Vitality Lip Flush</a>. I am in LOVE with Je Ne Sais Quoi.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-1001.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-8625" title="Picture 100" src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-1001-400x300.jpg" alt="" width="400" height="300" /></a></p>
<p>It is so moisturizing, so pretty, so what I didn’t even know I needed.  For bellas like me, who may have two or even three-toned lips, it could be the perfect pretty shiny pink you never thought existed.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-89.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px 0px 5px 10px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="Picture 89" src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-89_thumb.jpg" alt="Picture 89" width="271" height="206" border="0" /></a><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-101.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px 0px 5px 10px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="Picture 101" src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-101_thumb.jpg" alt="Picture 101" width="298" height="227" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>See my before on the left and after on the right. As you can see, my lips without pencil or color are kind of like a red grape &#8211; not consistently one color. This is a subtle, shiny, wearable, super moisturizing lippie – in terms of texture and appearance I’d compare it to <a href="http://www.votrevu.com/corporate/productcatalog?page=productdetail&amp;sku=2070&amp;fromCategory=true&amp;categoryName=Eye+Lip+and+Hand">Votre Vu Champagne Kisses</a>, one of my favorite lip balms EVER. It’s even more emoillient than Chapstick or Softlips or Burt’s Bees. And it gives your lips a subtle flush of sheer pink that conforms to your lip color. Check it out.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-92.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="Picture 92" src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-92_thumb.jpg" alt="Picture 92" width="244" height="184" border="0" /></a>               <a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-93.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="Picture 93" src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-93_thumb.jpg" alt="Picture 93" width="244" height="184" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-100.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px auto 5px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="Picture 100" src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-100_thumb.jpg" alt="Picture 100" width="388" height="294" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>So perfect for summer, n’est ce pas?</p>
<p><a href="http://www.itcosmetics.com/">It Cosmetics</a> is a really intriguing new product line – the creators reportedly “<em>work with leading plastic surgeons to infuse the latest anti-aging technology into their high-performance color cosmetics</em>.” Their products are intended to improve as well as beautify the skin, and they’ve been written about in more magazines than you can shake a stick at, even though you may not have heard of them or know their products by name just yet. <a href="http://www.qvc.com/cgen/render.aspx?qp=class%7Co155&amp;rewrite=no">Their products are on sale on QVC</a> and everything I’ve been lucky enough to try so far has been pretty awesome. </p>
<p>The pink flush of Je Ne Sais Quoi delighted me the MOST, though. Most pink lipsticks have the effect of highlighting the discoloration of my lips, or revealing how chapped they are with opaque color that cakes in the cracks. But not this. It’s just sheer, supremely moisturizing lip shine that looks sheer or clear in the tube, but has this delightfully flattering effect. And when the shine fades, your lips retain a rosy glow. I&#8217;d LOVE to see my dark skinned bellas who have struggled to find a pink lippie try this and let me know your thoughts. I hope it&#8217;d work for everyone as well as it works for me!</p>
<p>Let me stop rambling and let them explain:</p>
<p align="left"><em>What is it: Vitality Lip Flush Anti-Aging Lipstick Stain takes the place of your lipstick, anti-aging conditioning lip balm, ultra-hydrating lip gloss, and your lip stain! This truly innovative formula contains Hydra-Luxe Technology including ingredients such as plum oil, cherry oil, shea butter, aloe, and jojoba that all work together to treat, hydrate, condition, and nourish your lips. It minimizes the appearance of lip lines and wrinkles. Plus, this lip flush is packed with anti-oxidants including acai, green tea, white tea, and vitamins A, C, and E to fight free-radical attack.</em></p>
<p align="left"><em>Who is it for: Anyone who wants a naturally pretty flush of color for their lips! It&#8217;s also for anyone who wants ultra-hydrated and conditioned lips.</em></p>
<p align="left"><em>Why is it different: Vitality Lip Flush Anti-Aging Lipstick Stain is developed to give that long-wear flush of naturally pretty color, the anti-aging hydration of a super-luxe treatment lip balm, and the infusion of a powerful stain that doesn&#8217;t dry out your lips. Plum oil, cherry oil, and a power-packed formula of anti-aging and good-for-you ingredients drench your lips with hydration. Works on all skin tones.</em></p>
<p align="left"><em>How do I use it: Apply directly from the tube for a sheer, naturally pretty flush of color that lasts.</em></p>
<p>AND this comes in two more colors I&#8217;m officially now dying to try!</p>
<p>Look, I wore a pink top (vintage Lane Bryant) and took a sip of my morning veggie juice to give you a comparison in pinkness. Oooh and my druzy earrings are by <a href="http://www.nina-nguyen.com/">Nina Nguyen</a>. Love her stuff!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-103.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="Picture 103" src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-103_thumb.jpg" alt="Picture 103" width="244" height="184" border="0" /></a><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-105.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px 0px 5px 10px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="Picture 105" src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Picture-105_thumb.jpg" alt="Picture 105" width="244" height="184" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>Please excuse these raggely brows, I’ll be getting them take care of this week!</p>
<p>For this look I tried to come up with something SUPER simple and easy to wear, in colors that are office friendly or even appropriate for someone younger. What did I use to get this look?</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/WP_000397.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px auto 5px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="WP_000397" src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/WP_000397_thumb.jpg" alt="WP_000397" width="417" height="291" border="0" /></a></p>

</div><div style="clear:both"></div><div style="padding-bottom:4px;"></div><p>Tangerine Tango is Pantone’s color of the year, and we’re officially in the midst of Spring – Chicago’s dismal weather aside. Orange is sizzling hot right now for lips, cheeks, nails, and even eyes. Yes ma’am, just the other day I gave <a href="http://www.sephora.com/aqua-cream-P262109?skuId=1247188">Make Up For Ever’s orange Aqua Cream</a> a try on my eyelids under a bold, black cat eye, with peachy cheeks and a shimmery nude lip. Lately I’ve been rocking orange lips in varying degrees of intensity, and it’s a head turner of a look. If done wrong, it can be very eighties. (When I told my mom I was writing a post on orange lips she said “IT’S BACK!!!” with tremendous excitement. That was her signature for a while!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Eva-Marcille-for-Vive-Vixen.jpg"><img src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Eva-Marcille-for-Vive-Vixen-222x300.jpg" alt="" title="Eva-Marcille-for-Vive-Vixen" width="222" height="300" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-8540" /></a><br />

<p>Recently a friend on Twitter asked me if I had a recommendation for THE perfect orange lip for brown skin. I didn’t know if there was one special orange for all of us. I had to ask incredible makeup artist <a href="http://www.tiadantzler.net/">Tia Dantzler</a>, who offered some helpful orange lip tips. “That orange can be tricky. I like to use a pencil first to fill in. Sometimes you have an orange that’s too bright. So I like to use a brown or burgundy pencil as a base to tone it down. Or you can use a gloss or an orange lip balm. I like to tone it down before I turn it up.”</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/WP_000349.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px auto 5px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="WP_000349" src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/WP_000349_thumb.jpg" alt="WP_000349" width="469" height="356" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>I dug deep into my own orange-or-in-the-orange-family lippie stash to see which were the best. Photographed here with my camera phone, apologies for photo quality:</p>

<p><a href="http://shop.avon.com/shop/product.aspx?level1_id=300&amp;level2_id=301&amp;pdept_id=311&amp;dept_id=387&amp;cat_type=C&amp;pf_id=44519">Avon Glow Lip Gloss in Coral</a>, the safest, sheerest, shiniest option for those who are a tad too shy for overt orange. Just a hint of creamsicle orange that’s super sheer, excellent when layered over a lipstick or pencil.</p>
<p>Those are the few I have – couldn’t find my tube of MAC Morange for the photo. Classic shade, one I LOVE.  <a href="http://www.thestyleandbeautydoctor.com/2011/06/3-warm-tonedorange-based-red-mac-lipsticks-to-try/">Check out this post by Style And Beauty Doc for a few more classic MAC oranges.</a></p>
<p>If you’re looking for a brand new orange lippie, might I recommend <a href="http://www.sephora.com/">Sephora</a>? I stopped by the one on Chicago’s Michigan Avenue recently to check out their orange lip collection. And there were some GREAT oranges in store.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/WP_000314.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px auto 5px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="WP_000314" src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/WP_000314_thumb.jpg" alt="WP_000314" width="328" height="439" border="0" /></a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.sephora.com/super-saturated-high-gloss-lip-color-P292016?om_mmc=esv103203-GG&amp;om_kwpur=341500379&amp;ppc_crid=7450863017&amp;site=us_search&amp;esvcid=S1335844177_ADOGOB_AGI1092124_CRE7450863017_TID341500379_RFDd3d3Lmdvb2dsZS5jb20%3d">Urban Decay’s Super Saturated</a> lip pencils are chubby and slick and highly pigmented and full of win, and Punch Drunk is a delicious orange cream. A Go Go by <a href="http://www.sephora.com/painted-love-lipstick-P211912?skuId=1266501">Kat Von D</a> is a hot coral color. And then I hit the motherlode &#8212; Sephora has a <a href="http://shop.sephora.com/m/p/email/jump.asp?p=SephoraPantone.html">Pantone Color of the Year collaboration</a> that you can shop in store or online! Check out this display with all the Tangerine Tango you could want. Look!</p>

<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/WP_000329.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="WP_000329" src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/WP_000329_thumb.jpg" alt="WP_000329" width="184" height="244" border="0" /></a><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/WP_000325.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="WP_000325" src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/WP_000325_thumb.jpg" alt="WP_000325" width="184" height="244" border="0" /></a><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/WP_000321.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; margin: 0px 0px 5px 10px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; padding-top: 0px; border: 0px;" title="WP_000321" src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/WP_000321_thumb.jpg" alt="WP_000321" width="184" height="244" border="0" /></a></p>
<p>So if you’re looking for your ideal orange, check out Sephora. And if you want to know how to wear them, consider the advice I got from Tia Dantzler. “It’s best to use a scrub on your lips first, because with bright lip colors they really show if your lips are peeling.” TRUE STORY.</p>
<p>Have you found YOUR perfect orange lip color? Tell me about it!</p>

</div><div style="clear:both"></div><div style="padding-bottom:4px;"></div><p>I travel a fair amount, so I am well familiar with the ins and outs of beauty on the go. When I pack my makeup bag, I tend to go for flat eye shadow palettes, multi-use products, and anything that comes in pencil form. I’ve got an always packed makeup travel bag, so at the drop of a hat I’m more or less ready to jump on a plane – often what I do is just switch out the products I haven’t used in the last few trips with something new and exciting I plan to review for the blog soon. For my latest trip to Trinidad, I made the unusual decision to completely repack my travel makeup bag. My existing bag had become overloaded with products I wasn’t even actually using on my trips, and of course a trip to the Caribbean called for makeup that would last in sweltering temperatures and high humidity! </p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/AfrobellaTravelBeauty21.jpg"><img src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/AfrobellaTravelBeauty21-400x300.jpg" alt="" title="AfrobellaTravelBeauty2" width="400" height="300" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-7767" /></a></p>
<p>When I got to <a href="http://www.cocoreef.com/">Coco Reef, Tobago (one of the finest resorts in the Caribbean</a>, trust and believe!) I took this photo of the standout products that I used and loved the most on my trip. So, bellas – here’s the makeup I took with me to my homeland of Trinidad and Tobago, all tried and tested and ideal for island hopping!</p>

<p>Yes, all of these items fit into one makeup bag. Yes, my husband made fun of me and asked me why I was bringing so much makeup. No, I don’t wear all of this makeup at once. What can I say, this is what happens when you’re a beauty blogger! </p>
<p>See anything you love, need, or gotta try? I love absolutely all of these items and would highly recommend them to you, if you’re looking to upgrade your makeup stash!</p>

</div><div style="clear:both"></div><div style="padding-bottom:4px;"></div><p>Around this time of year it&#8217;s a beautiful thing to be given a gift &#8212; but it&#8217;s even more beautiful to be the gift giver. I reached out to some of my favorite brands to arrange special holiday giveaways for Afrobella readers, and I hope you love the products as much as I do! Second on the holiday giveaway list? A brand new holiday collection by one of the most historic cosmetics brands for women of color &#8212; <a href="http://shop.fashionfair.com/v/pxd/ff.html">Fashion Fair!</a></p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Siren-Call-Group-Shot.jpg"><img src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Siren-Call-Group-Shot-284x300.jpg" alt="Fashion Fair Siren Call Holiday Collection" title="Siren Call Group Shot" width="284" height="300" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-7498" /></a></p>
<p>Fashion Fair was <a href="http://www.fashionfair.com/assembled/about_history.html">born in 1973</a>, and was named after the internationally known Ebony Fashion Fair event. In order to find makeup that matched the models in their show, John H. Johnson and Eunice W. Johnson went to a private lab to have cosmetics made to match their skintones &#8212; the demand for these products proved to be overwhelming that the Johnsons brought the products to store shelves. The first ever Fashion Fair counter opened right here in Chicago at Marshall Fields (now Macy&#8217;s) on State Street. </p>
<p>I remember my mother having that trademark pink marblized compact in her purse when I was little. I remember some of the iconic advertisements, featuring the biggest stars of the era, all glammed up in their Fashion Fair cosmetics. And now the brand is experiencing a rebirth and reintroduction that&#8217;s remarkable to witness.</p>
<p>Ever since <a href="http://www.samfine.com/">legendary makeup artist Sam Fine</a> was named Creative Director, all Fashion Fair has done is win, win, win. The press mentions have been excitable. There&#8217;s been big buzz amongst customers. And the new Fashion Fair holiday collection? It&#8217;s exquisite. </p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/FashionFairSirenCall.jpg"><img src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/FashionFairSirenCall-473x300.jpg" alt="" title="FashionFairSirenCall" width="473" height="300" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-7499" /></a></p>
<p>Siren Call is all about dispelling the myth that women of color can&#8217;t wear red. There are four lipsticks that offer options of red (and one deep purple that I LOVE) for bellas all shades of beautiful. Nail lacquers that are modern in terms of color palette, AND that last &#8212; I was chip free almost a whole week, very impressed! </p>
<p>How do you WEAR these reds? Creative Director Sam Fine offered some helpful advice. </p>
<p>&#8220;If you have golden yellow undertones, I recommend a true red lipstick such as Fashion Fair Lipstick in Siren. For women with a soft mocha complexion, I recommend a more orange-tone red shade sucn as Fashion Fair&#8217;s Intrigue,&#8221; says Mr. Fine. (<a href="https://twitter.com/#!/SamFineBeauty">Click here to follow Mr. Sam Fine on Twitter!</a>)</p>
<p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/yZvLbL1kS90" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>How glam is THAT??? That shoot was <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/SamFineBeauty">Sam Fine makeup</a>, <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/OscarJamesHair">Oscar James hair</a>, and styling by <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/FreddieLeiba">legendary Trinidadian Freddie Leiba</a> (TRINIS REPRESENT!)</p>
<p>If you&#8217;ve been afraid to rock a red lip, THIS IS YOUR CHANCE. Bellas, I&#8217;ve got FIVE full sets of Fashion Fair&#8217;s Siren Call Holiday Collection to give away! </p>
<blockquote><p>The Siren Call Collection includes: </p>
<p>Lipsticks &#8211; $18<br />
Intrigue (Orange Red)<br />
Siren (Blue Red)<br />
Forbidden (Brown Red)<br />
Femme Fatale (Deep Purple)</p>

Heart Throb (Red)<br />
So Cold (Silver)<br />
Allusion (Grey) </p>

</div><div style="clear:both"></div><div style="padding-bottom:4px;"></div><p>In the Eighties my mom was all about red and orange lipstick, to match her red or orange nails. It was an interesting time in the beauty world &#8211; in those days beauty was very much about power. In the magazines there were power suits armed with thick shoulder pads, and the perfumes of the era were pungent and had one word names like Poison, Obsession, and Ysatis. I found it all kind of comical. I remember my mom trying to tell me that shoulder pads made for a better silhouette. All of these years later&#8230;I&#8217;m thinking she might have had something there.</p>
<p>I didn&#8217;t want my first lipstick to be red, or orange. Because of my experience working at our family friend&#8217;s cosmetics and perfume store, I had the opportunity to become intimately familiar with the lipsticks for sale in Trinidad. I swatched every shade of <a href="http://www.sachacosmetics.com/">Sacha Cosmetics</a> lipstick that we had. And so when the time came for me to buy my own lipstick, I already knew which one I wanted. In this <a href="http://www.afrobella.com/2008/07/07/in-or-out-of-vogue/">vintage post I mistakenly called it Copper Sunset</a>. The real name was <a href="http://www.sachacosmetics.com/products/index.php?catID=16&#038;proID=10">Copper Rosa. </a> This was in the early Nineties.</p>
<div id="attachment_6747" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 260px"><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/SachaCosmetics.jpg"><img src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/SachaCosmetics.jpg" alt="" title="SachaCosmetics" width="250" height="270" class="size-full wp-image-6747" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Behold. Copper Rosa</p></div>
<p>Copper Rosa was subtly stunning &#8211; the kind of lippie that brown skinned beauties feel safe wearing. Not too bold and bright, and it went really well with my skin tone. I felt so grown up when I wore it. I think I was all of 13 years old. 14, tops. I remember bringing my beloved Copper Rosa with me to high school bazaars. <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatima_College">Fatima</a> Mayfair. The few precious unsupervised social events I was allowed to attend at that age. I remember sitting in Long Circular Mall&#8217;s food court with a group of girls I knew &#8212; and boys, ZOMG. I was carefully applying my Copper Rosa right there with everyone around when a loudmouthed older girl that never liked me (trust, the feeling was mutual) reprimanded me loudly. &#8220;You&#8217;re only supposed to put on lipstick in the bathroom! Not in front of other people!&#8221; Her intent was to make me feel ashamed, and I definitely did at the time. <a href="http://www.bellasugar.com/Rude-Apply-Lipstick-Table-1910886">Please note that Emily Post doesn&#8217;t turn up her nose at quickly applying lipstick at the table</a>. </p>
<p>Copper Rosa was my road buddy through the times where I agonized whether or not boys would like me, or whether or not my high school friends were truly my friends. My first lipstick. I don&#8217;t remember when we parted ways &#8211; I remember towards the end, buying my first lip brush to use the remants that remained. I don&#8217;t remember throwing the used tube away, but maybe I did when it was time for me to ship off to college, when I got rid of many of my childhood things.</p>
<p>Writing this post made me want to go back to Trinidad, so I could track down a tube of Sacha Cosmetics lipstick and remember the times.<br />
Do you remember your first lipstick? Tell me about it! What was the brand and color, and where did you wear it?</p>

<p>Take it away Meagan!</p>
<p><strong>It’s Spring Again!</strong></p>
<p>Hello Lovelies! I’m Meagan (you say that MEE-gan) and I’m new around here. I’m thinking we’ll be great friends very soon. I love makeup, so if you are like me, pull up a seat and prepare to get ready for some industry info! </p>
<p>Spring is OFFICIALLY here, and I am OFFICIALLY happy! The sun will be shining, there’ll be a nice crisp breeze, flowers will be blooming galore and beautfiul colors will be everywhere! To lovers of makeup, that means, it’s time to go shopping for or look in our stash for the hot colors of the season. Everybody jump up and get excited! No more snow!</p>
<p>At the top of every season I go out &#038; purchase magazines that review collections for the season, as a makeup artist I gain inspiration from designers choices of color, pattern and texture. It also gives me an idea of what will be hot that season. After doing some research &#038; catching up on the runway shows for S/S 2011, from last Fall, I noticed a few trends. Here are the trends including product suggestions for you to try!</p>
<p><strong>Trend #1: Purple Eyeshadow</strong><br />
Purple looks great on warmer skin tones! Experiment with different shades, from lilac to violet, plum to royal purple and my fave for a smokey eye &#8211; eggplant!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/image05.jpg"><img src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/image05-227x300.jpg" alt="" title="People Magazine Post GRAMMY Party Hosted by Beyonce" width="227" height="300" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5673" /></a></p>
<p><em>photo courtesy of Essence Online</em><br />
Product Suggestion: Make Up For Ever’s EyeShadow #92 (left) &#8211; $19<br />
Product Suggestion: MAC Grape Pigment (right) &#8211; $19.50</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/image03.jpg"><img src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/image03-300x175.jpg" alt="" title="image03" width="300" height="175" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5674" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Trend #2: Bold Fuchsia Lipstick</strong><br />
This trend takes me back to the 80’s when my Mom would wear her Wet &#038; Wild fuchsia lipstick. I love to wear it, and in my opinion it looks best on women of color. When the warmth of our skin meets that bold pinkish/purple &#8211; it’s like a beautiful color combo explosion!</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/image04.jpg"><img src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/image04-300x272.jpg" alt="" title="Solange" width="300" height="272" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5675" /></a></p>
<p><em>photo courtesy of Getty Images</em></p>
<p>Product Suggestion: Make Up For Ever’s Rouge Artiste Intense #36 &#8211; $19<br />
Product Suggestion: MAC Lickable &#8211; $14.50</p>
<p><strong>Trend #3: Coral Blush</strong><br />
This trend is tricky &#8211; simply because oftentimes brands don’t have a coral deep enough or warm enough for our deeper skin tones. This is where you MAY have to get creative. If you can’t find a coral blush deep enough &#8211; USE AN EYESHADOW!!! For the past two years I’ve used a NARS eyeshadow (Emanuelle) as my blush. True beauty is all about thinking OUTSIDE of the box! </p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/image01.jpg"><img src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/image01-300x124.jpg" alt="" title="image01" width="300" height="124" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5676" /></a></p>
<p>The color to the right is more orange for women with a deeper complexion. For my complexion, I’d like to blend the two color together for a PERFECT coral blush!</p>
<p>Product Suggestion: Illamasqua Cream Blush in RUDE (left) &#8211; $24<br />
Product Suggestion: Illamasqua Cream Blush in LIBIDO (right) &#8211; $24</p>
<p>SIDE NOTE: With deeper complexions and this trend I recommend using a CREAM BLUSH instead of a powder to avoid an ashy look on the cheeks. The cream will blend into the skin more, not to mention cream blush is really hot this season!!!</p>
<p><strong>Trend #4: Gold/Bronze Metallic Smokey Eye</strong><br />
Can you say HAUTE! This look is simply gorgeous on EVERY AND ANYBODY. It can be played up and made dramatic, or kept simple and elegant. The colors are so soft it works either way.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/image00.jpg"><img src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/image00-228x300.jpg" alt="" title="image00" width="228" height="300" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5677" /></a></p>
<p><em>photos courtesy of Essence Online</em></p>
<p>Product Suggestion: Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Baked &#8211; $17<br />
Product Suggestion: Urban Decay Eyeshadow in SMOG &#8211; $17<br />
Product Suggestion: NARS Cream Eyeshadow in Savage &#8211; $23<br />
Product Suggestion: NARS Eyeshadow in Galapagos &#8211; $23<br />
(product suggestions listed from left to right)</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/image02.jpg"><img src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/image02-300x142.jpg" alt="" title="image02" width="300" height="142" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5678" /></a></p>
<p>SIDE NOTE: If you want a really smokey eye remember to line your upper lash line with a black eyeliner or a cream black eyeshadow, smudge upward and then put the color used for an accent over the black cream and blend up above the crease in the eyelid.</p>
<p>Ladies, go out and paint those faces with this beautiful array of Spring colors! Don’t be afraid to try something new. Remember, it’s okay to try fun, new things! It’s only makeup, it’ll wash off! <img src='http://www.afrobella.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_surprised.gif' alt=':o' class='wp-smiley' /> </p>
<p>Peace, Love &#038; Paint.</p>
<p><em>Please leave a comment for Meagan and make her feel welcome! What do you think bellas? Which of these trends will you be trying yourself?</em></p>

			</div><div style="clear:both"></div><div style="padding-bottom:4px;"></div><p>I love MAC cosmetics and I especially love their <a href="http://www.maccosmetics.com/whats_new/4800/index.tmpl">Viva Glam initiative.</a> </p>
<p>By pairing up daring and outspoken celebrities with the brand&#8217;s initiative of raising awareness and funds for HIV/AIDS, MAC has created a campaign that never fails to inform, inspire and excite. Lady Gaga is THE perfect celebrity to be the face of Viva Glam. Her fan base is passionate, vocal, involved &#8211; and Lady Gaga is committed to raising awareness for causes that many would often rather sweep under the rug. So the creation of MAC&#8217;s Viva Glam 2 was a no brainer. </p>
<p>My only issue&#8230;the color. </p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/MAC-Lady-Gaga.jpg"><img src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/MAC-Lady-Gaga-300x199.jpg" alt="" title="MAC Lady Gaga Viva Glam 2" width="300" height="199" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5557" /></a></p>
<p>Am I the only one who is less-than-excited by the actual colors of MAC&#8217;s Viva Glam lippies of late? Lady Gaga 1 was an uber pale pink, and now this is a pinkish beige.<br />
I want to support the cause, but it can be challenging figuring out how to actually ~wear~ this new Viva Glam 2. In order to hopefully eliminate some consumer confusion, here&#8217;s a video of me rocking MAC&#8217;s Lady Gaga Viva Glam 2 lippies in four different ways. Spoiler alert, #3 might be my favorite!</p>
<p><iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nwoxxb3Yboc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe><br />
In summary, a lip pencil in your skintone makes EVERYTHING better. In this video I used <a href="http://www.threecustom.com/home.php?cat=257">Three Custom Color Lip Liner in Warm Brown</a>, but I got quite a few recommendations for MAC&#8217;s Chestnut, and I also gotta say <a href="http://www.nyxcosmetics.com/index.php?pf=SP">NYX </a>has an outstanding array of darker brown lip pencils that last and make me really happy. </p>
<p>Still not convinced? Click to see <a href="http://www.misswhoeveryouare.com/2011/02/little-bit-of-spring-to-tease-us.html">how Miss Whoever You Are</a> and <a href="http://www.stylelist.com/2011/02/17/mac-viva-glam-gaga-2-lipstick-lipglass/">Dana Oliver of Stylelist</a> also made Lady Gaga&#8217;s lippies work on their lovely brown skin!</p>

<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/2010/11/24/nicki-minaj-and-mac-pink-friday/mac-nicki-minaj-launch-pink-friday-lipstick/" rel="attachment wp-att-4465"><img src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/106787437_JM_2280_3E7B570981042EAF3C2FE1BCF5309052-207x300.jpg" alt="" title="MAC + Nicki Minaj Launch Pink Friday Lipstick" width="207" height="300" class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-4465" /></a></p>
<p>Nicki Minaj and MAC just came out with <a href="http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/168/13699/Pink-4-Friday-Lipstick/index.tmpl">a lipstick</a>, in honor of her album <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0042RUMEQ?ie=UTF8&#038;tag=afrobellacom-20&#038;linkCode=as2&#038;camp=1789&#038;creative=390957&#038;creativeASIN=B0042RUMEQ">Pink Friday</a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=afrobellacom-20&#038;l=as2&#038;o=1&#038;a=B0042RUMEQ" width="1" height="1" border="0" alt="" style="border:none !important; margin:0px !important;" />.</p>
<p>Pink Friday is a very girly, very opaque satin pink. At the event this week in New York, an enormous and excited crowd gathered at MAC to see their Barbie Queen. The lipstick has been flying off the shelves. From the moment I got it in the mail, I was like&#8230;uh oh. Are people going to be wearing this? I used to have a My Little Pony in that color!</p>
<p>So I decided to try the Pink Friday lipstick in a few different ways to see if I could make it more wearable. And I find success in the end! Kinda. </p>
<p><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5xNTvcV0Od8?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5xNTvcV0Od8?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></p>
<p>The secret for me is layering it over a darker pink. Otherwise it&#8217;s too opaque for me.</p>
<p>What do you think, bellas? Will you be rocking Pink Friday? And, what are your thoughts on Nicki Minaj? I don&#8217;t love her music or this whole Barbie thing, but I like her personality and her success makes me proud as a Trinidadian. Would love to hear your thoughts!</p>

</div><div style="clear:both"></div><div style="padding-bottom:4px;"></div><p>I love a good lipstain, but in my experience, a good lipstain can be hard to find. So often the formulations can be drying and the applicators can be harsh. Few things are more unattractive than dry, chapped lips &#8211; and believe me, dry, chapped lips that are stained hot pink or orange are definitely the worst. I speak from experience.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.afrobella.com/2010/09/29/you-deserve-tarte-natural-matte-lip-stain/tarte-lip-stain-pencils/" rel="attachment wp-att-4199"><img src="http://www.afrobella.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/tarte-lip-stain-pencils-300x183.jpg" alt="" title="tarte-lip-stain-pencils" width="300" height="183" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4199" /></a></p>
<p>I&#8217;ve tried a gamut of lipstains, but never anything like <a href="http://tartecosmetics.com/tarte-item-lipsurgence-natural-matte-lip-stains">Tarte&#8217;s Natural Matte Lip Stain</a>. The previous stains I&#8217;ve stanned for were of the gel variety, like <a href="http://www.vincentlongo.com/content/original-lip-cheek-gel-stain">Vincent Longo&#8217;s</a>. Tarte&#8217;s Natural Matte Lip Stain is not what I expected. It&#8217;s basically a giant crayon that delivers a wash of light, matte, and super pretty color. Infused with their “LipSurgence” technology, the pencils are made without parabens, petrolatum, mineral oil, all the icky stuff ingredient-conscious beauty junkies strive to avoid. And still they manage to be truly moisturizing. Wonders never cease!</p>
<p>I do prefer to use products that are all natural and chock full of healthy beauty ingredients&#8230;but those products don&#8217;t always work for me the way I&#8217;d like them to. I&#8217;m happy to report that these Tarte lip stains do! The LipSurgence technology promises to &#8220;deliver a surge of moisture on a cellular level,&#8221; and it really does make for a wonderfully soft, smooth application &#8211; like a minty lip balm that leaves behind the perfect color. It&#8217;s great on its own, but when I&#8217;m going to something special, I layer a sheer or pale gloss over it for a little extra POW. I got a sample in Lively (hot pink) at the <a href="http://www.afrobella.com/2010/09/17/event-recap-cocktails-and-couture/">Cocktails and Couture party</a>, and I&#8217;ve been hooked ever since! Now I&#8217;m all about getting more &#8211; Envy (mauve berry) is next on my list.</p>
<p>They cost $24 a pencil, but if you&#8217;re looking for a luxurious alternative to the regular lip stain, you might want to give them a try. And if you&#8217;ve already tried them &#8211; let me know your thoughts!</p>

<p>I know anytime I need a cosmetic item that works &#8211; I can go to the drugstore and they&#8217;re there for me. But what are the absolute best items I&#8217;ve tried? I had to go in, and it turned out to be like an 11 minute video. So bear with me!</p>
<p><object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/0CoXZ1EBOn8?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;color1=0xe1600f&amp;color2=0xfebd01"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/0CoXZ1EBOn8?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;color1=0xe1600f&amp;color2=0xfebd01" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object></p>
<p>You can find all of those products at your local drugstore, at Target, Walmart, anywhere mass market beauty items are sold. So go forth and be beautiful!</p>
<p>Have you tried any of my top 5? Which are your favorites? </p>
