What I’m Thankful For This Thanksgiving

by afrobella

The last few weeks have been rough, I can’t even front. Being sick always sucks, and at times within the past month it’s literally felt like the Mucinex commercials were being reinacted in my lungs. My site got hacked not once, not twice, but THREE times in succession. Just when I’d think everything was OK, I’d log in and get the red screen again. and my heart would sink into my stomach. It felt like one thing after another was happening – my sinus infection, the site, then B. Smith canceled on me 45 minutes before she was supposed to be the only guest on Afrobella Radio. Then I found out a contract I was counting on fell through at the worst possible time. I was like, WHAT NEXT?

I spent quite a bit of time in October and November being depressed about everything that’s been wrong. This week is Thanksgiving, and I’ve really come to realize that there is SO much for me to be thankful for. Allow me to present a top 5 list, in no particular order.

5 – I am SO thankful that Afrobella.com is back up and running, clean and hacker free. I made a video about it yesterday!

I was still in a glass case of emotion about it, as you can tell – but now all doubt has been removed. I’m BACK!

4 – I am eternally grateful to my friends, especially Adria and Luvvie. For everything.

The bonding under adversity, the late night g chats, the stressed out e mails, the laughter, the tears, the support, and the knowhow. I couldn’t have done any of it without you. Thank you for being my friends, and thank you for helping me restore my livelihood! My sisters from other misters. I love you!

3 – I am thankful for my family. I couldn’t have gotten better in laws. My mother in law reads my blog, follows me on Twitter and Facebook, and supports me in everything I do. And when I’m at my most verklempt, depressed and overwhelmed, I know I can call my dad and mom in Trinidad, vent and get sound advice in exchange. Recently my brother Patrick made me laugh SO hard when I needed a laugh more than anything. My sister Petal and brother Dominic are always just an e mail away, offering advice and insight. I am so blessed to be surrounded by such support and love.

2 – I am so thankful for my husband. He knows. Without him, none of this would be possible.

1 – I am thankful for you, for reading my blog and supporting what I do. I got so many e mails from you guys, so many of you sending love, prayers, and good wishes. So many of you promised to keep supporting me no matter what. Thank you so, so much for everything. I’ve got some incredible giveaways in store for you, so stay tuned!!

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving?

Yay! What a fitting time to have your blog back! Thanksgiving. So glad you didn’t have to suffer through the holidays with this terrible hacking. I remember looking at your video recently and being near tears for you…you’re such a sunny spirit through the screen (and even more so in person!) and I was so sad to see that deflated because of a bunch of people who have nothing better to do with the time on their hands. Glad to see your full smile again and I look forward to exciting and successful ventures that are sure to come for you! šŸ™‚

I’m thankful that your blog is back. We missed you!!

I’m thankful for all that you have taught me over the years about makeup, hair etc. etc.

I’m thankful for my body which I tend to put down all the time, yet look how far it has brought me and what it does for me. I have resolved to show my body more love and be grateful for it.

I’m thankful for my family and friends. Love really is such a gift.

I’m thankful for how far I have come in my life by the grace of God.

I’m thankful for all those who suffered and struggled so that the world can be a better place: who fought against oppression and discrimination, and the fruit of whose labor I am now reaping. I know that oppression and discrimination still exist, but I am better off than my foremothers and forefathers in many ways because of their blood, sweat and tears.

By the way I love your skirt in the picture and your hair in the video and picture. Is that an African fabric that the skirt is made from?
