Summertime Skin -Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask

by afrobella

I don’t know about you, but in the summertime my skin goes ka-razy.

I find myself almost constantly plagued by acne and excess oil. Lucky me – being a beauty blogger I have the privilege of reviewing quite the variety of skin care products, some of which are insanely pricey. I’ll do a review on the latest and greatest soon! But when my skin’s at its most unpredictable, I find myself reaching for the tried and tested, and super affordable. That means good ol’ Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque, which retails for $3.99 online.

“Queen

It calms down my frazzled face with green kaolin clay goodness, and makes a great overnight spot treatment if I have an especially hellacious zit. Plus, the minty scent and cooling clay make it an ideal summer skin savior.

I kind of can’t believe I’ve never reviewed this product before. But at the same time I can — how often do you really think about your standby beauty favorites? The products your mom used, that sit there patiently at the back of your bathroom cabinet until you realize they’re exactly the thing you’ve been needing all along? I’d also include St. Ives Apricot Scrub and Pond’s Cold Cream.

Queen Helene’s been producing the same goodness for 75 years now, but looky here! A new line of fair trade certified cocoa butter products! I’m gonna have to check em out.

What are your stand-by never fail beauty faves? Do you have any special summertime skin saviors?

Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve used a Queen Helene product?! I can’t remember if I used the Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask back in the day or not but I’m going to have to try it if it works for you. 🙂

I love this product. My face also has its own mind when it gets hot outside…can we say shine face? I don’t use it on my whole face but mostly on my t-zone and when I have a breakout, I’ll just cover the zits with that.

I’m glad the mask works for you…I’ve tried it once and it made me break out. oh well. I have very oily skin and tried for years to get control of it. I swear by plain old Pears Glycerin Soap. I’ve been using it for years now and my skin is clear and better yet, not oily :). People always ask me what I use for my skin. My job also has a spa where one of the aestheticians told me to be careful of brand name cleansers; they’re usually very alkaline and cause a change in the pH of your skin, leaving it more prone to break-outs

I also use St Ives peel off hydroxy masque – very cooling

I actually love this mask. A few months ago bentonite clay was all the rage on natural hair blogs and sites. I actually never ended up trying it but hear that it is a pulsating clay that draws out impurities. Well…if you look at the ingredients in the Mint Julep mask, you find bentonite!! It does draw junk outta my pores and I really like the smell. Nice review!

I use this too. This is the cheapest, most effective product besides bentonite clay to get your pore clean!

My favorite Queen Helene product is the cholesterol protein conditioner. And yes, it’s at the back of the closet collecting dust. I have never used the skin products.

I used this back in high school and it dried my skin out and burned it in some spots. I have not used it since.

Oh, I had to leave a comment on this one! I love that product. I discovered it during my first trip to NYC from London in 1993. I love it! A brilliant emergency solution for spots and as an eczema sufferer, that’s a great find.

I also love Oil of Ulay (or Olay as it’s called now). My mum has sworn by it for longer than I’ve been alive.

And my new discovery is a pure sulfhur mud from the hills of Dominica. Cost: free if you live in Dominica. Priceless for your skin.

I always have a tube of this stuff in my bathroom. My daughter loves to do mini facials with me with this product. Queen Helene may be cheap but she works.

When I saw this I was like wow Im a firm believer in the “Queen” especially the original cholesterol for your hair and the mint Julep. I have been using the cholesterol all my life and the face mask since the early 90’s. Im glad someone else is up on this good job.

I totally forgot how much I used to )love* this mask back in high school. I think I need to start buying it again, my skin has been a mess recently!

I use this as well but I hate how hard it is to squeeze out of the tube ;0(
