Spritz Your Natural Hair With This! 9 Great Moisturizing Leave-In Conditioners for Black Hair!

by afrobella

When it’s so hot that the air is leaching the moisture from my hair, leaving my situation looking frizzy and crispy, I know it’s time to reach for external moisture reserves. My hair loves, needs, wants, craves and absorbs leave-in conditioner sprays in the summer! It can’t be just any old leave-in, either. It needs to be water based, and infused with the kind of ingredients my hair responds to best – like coconut oil, castor oil, aloe and glycerin.

I’m in the fortunate position to be able to try the gamut of natural hair products. I’ve tried the expensive brands you find in retail stores, and the DIY independent fresh-from-the-kitchen online only varieties. Here are 9 that you need to know about, complete with ingredients so you can make an informed decision. Just in case you aren’t ready to make your own leave-in yet!

Leave In Conditioners For natural hair

Obia Natural Haircare Curl Hydration Spray

Ingredients: “Purified Water (Aqua), Vegetable Glycerin, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Oil, Rose Oil, Cocos nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Soybean Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Gluconolactone and Sodium Benzoate, Fragrance (Parfum).”

So far I’ve tried quite a few products by Obia and I really like everything I’ve tried! Her Curl Hydration Spray was one of the first products she created (PS the creator, Obia is a trained chemist). When my hair is thirsty, this spray delivers exactly what I need.

Oyin Juices and Berries

Ingredients: “Aqueous infusion of shavegrass leaf, lavender buds, nettle leaf, chamomile flower, and red rose petals; organic flax seeds; organic aloe leaf juice; vegetable glycerin; lavender oil, orange peel oil, grapefruit seed extract; citric acid, and love!”

Oyin remains one of my favorite natural brands, and their sprays are ALL excellent. I love Frank Juice and Greg Juice, but the moisturizing power and sweet scent of Juices and Berries make it my favorite!

LRC Shake and Go

Ingredients: “Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Jojoba Oil, Silk Protein, Sunflower Seed Extract, Keratin Amino Acids, Vitamin B5, Vitamin E, Coconut/Palm Oil Fatty Acids“

I love LRC – Lawrence Ray is a friend of mine and he’s created a wonderful line of products. Shake and Go is my FAVE – my hair just drinks it up! And the bottle it comes in is THE perfect spray bottle. The packaging rocks!

Mahogany Naturals Daily Moisturizing Leave In

Ingredients: “(Aqua)purified water, ,( Aloe Barbadensis) Aloe vera, vegetable glycerin,( Tocopherol )vitamin E, (Cocos nucifera )coconut oil, silk amino acid, essential oils, fragrance”

My bellas in the UK are likely already up on Mahogany Naturals – I discovered the brand during my visit there and fell in love! My hair absorbs this product like a sponge and it leaves my hair feeling soft and restored.

Alikay Naturals Lemongrass Leave In Conditioner –

Ingredients: “Water, Glycerin, Almond Oil, Wheat Germ Protein, Silk Amino Acids, Lemongrass Extract, Behentrimonium Methosulfate(Rapaseed oil) , Herbal and Botanical Blend No Petroleum, No Mineral Oil , No Alcohol, No Paraben, No Sulfate, No Silicones”

Can I just say that I feel proud of Black Onyx and Alikay Naturals? She created a product line that truly works for a variety of hair textures! Her Lemongrass leave in smells divine and works perfectly for my hair, restoring softness, shine and much needed moisture.

Ouidad Botanical Boost Moisture Infusing Refreshing Spray –

Ingredients: “Water (Aqua), Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Cetrimonium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Hydrolyzed Corn Protein, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hydrolyzed Wheat Starch, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Rosa Canina Leaf Extract, Spirulina Maxima Extract, Methyl Gluceth-10, Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Benzophenone-4, Benzalkonium Chloride, Fragrance (Parfum), Polysorbate 20, Sodium Hydroxide, Disodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantoin”

Don’t sleep on Ouidad – they make such great products for natural textures, from tightly coiled to loose curls. The Botanical Boost is amongst my faves for a reason – when my hair is absolutely parched, it does the job and infuses moisture to my situation. It’s a light spray that smells luxurious and works well for me.

Carols Daughter Hair Milk Nourishing and Conditioning Refresher Spray

Ingredients: “NO ALCOHOL, NO PARABENS, NO PETROLEUM, NO MINERAL OIL, NO ARTIFICIAL COLORS

Water (Aqua), Agave Tequilana Stem Extract, Amodimethicone, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Butylene Glycol, Calendula OfficianalisFlower Extract, Cetrimonium Chloride, Citric Acid, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Extract, Dimethicone PEG-8 Meadowfoamate, Disodium EDTA, Glycerin, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Extract, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein PG-Propyl Silanetriol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein/PVP Crosspolymer, Panthenol, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, PEG-75 Meadowfoam Oil, Polyquaternium-11, Polyquaternium-7, Polysorbate 20, PPG-26-Buteth-26, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Extract, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Fruit Extract, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Trideceth-12, Methylisothiazolinone, Potassium Sorbate,Fragrance (Parfum) 1109E1322252”

Carol’s Daughter was one of my first favorite natural hair brands and I still love so many of the staple products! The Curl Milk spray is light, has the same divine fragrance I’ve long adored, and brings my coils back to life when they’re limp and frizzy.

My Honeychild Herbal Hair Cocktail –

Ingredients : Distilled water, chamomile extract, seaweed complex, herbal extract, yarrow, mint ,fragrance phenoxyethanol and caprylyl glycol (Optiphen®).

If you’re not yet familiar with My Honeychild, let me put you up on game! This brand has SO many amazing natural hair products, you are bound to find something your hair will adore. This spritz is intended to infuse hair with deeply penetrating humectants and it’s ideal for summertime!

Soultanicals Hair Sorrell Knappylicious Kink Drink –

INGREDIENTS: Lavender Water, Organic Aloe Juice, Herbal Infusion of Horsetail, Burdock, Chamomile, Hibiscus, Ginger, Irish Moss & Nettle, Flaxseed Gel, Babassu Oil, Castor Oil, Pro Vitamin B5, Sorbitol, Algae, Kelp, Jamaican Black Castor Oil, Agave Nectar, Natural, Fragrant & Essential Oil Blends, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Leuconostoc/Radish Root Ferment Filtrate, Citric Acid, Sea Buckthorne , an extra spritz of LOVE!

Here’s what I love about Soultanicals – the creativity and the names and the EFFECTIVENESS of her products! The island girl in me adores sorrell as a traditional Christmas drink, and my hair loves it as a moisturizing refresher, intended to give new life to my curls. Love!

Those are nine of the best spray on leave ins that I’ve had the privilege to try. See any you love and want to add to your arsenal?

I really suggest to use natural hair products like you do. Never think that moisturizing ingredients could help to. Mostly I buy natural hair products, but never interested in the ingredients. Thanks for sharing this. This article fits whit my 50 best black weave hairstyles to :).

Nice article you have written. While there are so much conditioners around it is hard to choose which one is the right one. Buy I do believe the ingredients you have put in this article are the main ingredients what a conditioner needs. I am also searching for a way on how to get your hair to grow faster.

I just discovered kinky curly spiral spray. Available at target and walgreens. All natural ingredients. No alcohols, salts, parabens, pthalates, and the like. Super awesome product!

Only one of the spritzes listed DON’T have humectants, which is lame. I’d love to try them when it’s humid, but because I live in the desert, I don’t think it would be a good idea. The My Honeychild Herbal Hair Cocktail seems pretty interesting, since it doesn’t have any humectants (at least I hope not, anyway). I would love to try it.

The customers that were unhappy said that the customer service is dreadful, Scent Direct blended items in their order, that they were offered perfume and make-up without seals and also some were
told exchanged things don’t deliver till the initial item has
    been returned.

I love this post! I have tried the LRC Leave-in and it my most favorite, compared to “It’s a 10” and a Moroccan brand I tried at the same time. The LRC Shake & Go smelled so good and left my hair very defined. Some of the ones listed, I have never heard of but I am SO excited to try!! Thank You for sharing!
