Afrobella HawthoRNe Giveaway!

by afrobella

I love a strong woman, and I love an actress who plays the game by their own rules. Jada Pinkett-Smith has always been both. Petite and gorgeous, she could easily have gone a more glamorous route with her career, but Jada has always played gritty and tough very well – from Menace II Society and Set It Off, to The Women, and The Matrix – Jada is excellent at playing a tough no-nonsense character.

In the TNT medical drama HawthoRNe, Jada plays Chief Nursing Officer Christina Hawthorne – a woman who can best be described as passionate. In the episodes I’ve seen, she is absolutely everywhere at once – saving lives, comforting patients, and unabashedly getting in the doctor’s faces if they step out of lines and forget their oaths. And oh yeah – trying to find a balance for her own life somewhere in between.

HawthoRNe’s complete first season is now out on DVD, and to celebrate that, the folks at TNT want to offer Afrobella readers first dibs at an exciting three-disc DVD set giveaway!

If you’re a fan of HawthoRNe, then I know you’re excited already! If you’re new to HawthoRNe and are a fan of Jada, then you’ll definitely enjoy this.

So how do you win?

All you have to do is leave a comment below and tell me what you like about HawthoRNe. Is it her no nonsense professionalism? If it her can-do-by-any-means-necessary attitude? Is it that you can relate to her struggle to balance work with life’s other demands? (I can!)

I’m going to leave these comments open over the weekend while I’m in DC for the Blogging While Brown conference, and close the contest on Monday. A winner will be chosen at random next week.

Good luck bellas!! And for those of you who didn’t know – HawthoRNe returns on June 22 at 9/8C.

i love that she is using her ministry in a hospital–where so many people are neglected—God has given her the gift to love and care for a diverse of people—

we need more HAWTHORNE’S IN OUR LIVES!

First I want to say I love Hannah Hodson’s, who plays Camille, gorgeous hair. I am a fan of Jada Pinkett. She exudes beauty in more ways than one. As for her character on the show, I love her strength and committment. She will trust her own instincts when others may doubt her. I admire that her character has some struggles, whether it is losing her husband or dealing with a daughter becoming a woman. When it seems like she is at the end of her rope, she digs deep within and find the strength to make it through.

I love Hawthorne’s get it done at by whatever means possible attitude! I remember the episode where she converted a storage closet into a room for a patient. Also, I love Jada, as an actress and a wife and mother!!

I like how she handles her child. You can see that her child is just as strongwilled as she is and even though it is hard to balance both she does in a great way!

I’ve always enjoyed a great medical, suspense or melodrama and Hawthorne is no exception. I was excited and definitely rooting for Jada Pinket-Smith’s return to television. Jada’s character is definitely relatable as they usually are, and the show as a whole delivers diversity with very meaningful storylines. I love the realness and strength yet vulnerability HawthoRNe exudes, and having the focus be on the nurses is a great touch because they deserve the spotlight as well.

I love a strong black woman who is passionate about helping others and who is willing to go any route to do just that..I always have loved Jada Pinkett-Smith as an actress and a wife..She always look good at what she do..I am also so proud of her for how she is raising her kids to be independent and not depending on them to give them the things that they want in life…She plays her role on Hawthorne really well..I Love it that she nevers to take NO for an answer!!!!!!

I love the way the relationships are written in the show, especially the relationship between Christina and her daughter, Camille.

I’ve never seen the show, but I can say I like how she says, “I’m Christina Hawthorne, and I run this.” It’s like she’s talking in italics lol. I love it. Unfortunately, my tv has issues and I don’t get the TNT channel(I actually don’t get most channels. I’ve got network, tbs and bravo…the rest are fuzzy).

    Hi Afrobella!

I like Christina Hawthorne’s “go-getter” attitude, because she reminds me of myself, always trying to do everything 100% all the time. Sometimes we have to be told to slow down and let it go. 🙂

I like her “life happens”:”keep living” mentality. She has clearly been through a lot in her life but through it all she just keeps moving on day to day It’s harden than some folks might realize to just keep it moving in the face of adversity so I like to see that in a woman.

BTW I <3 Afrobella and good luck in DC!

I love the real-life feel Hawthorne has to it. Working in a medical office myself, I can definitely relate to many of the issues in various episodes. The crazy patients constantly coming in w/ a desperate situation. The rookie nurse who is all too nice and fragile. The male nurse who falls in love w/ the nurse Candy, who has to pick up and leave to serve the country right at the brink of a blossoming romance. The nurse Bobby with her prosthetic leg and straight up, no follishness attitude (not to mention her struggle w/ letting her guard down for a potential love interest :)) Jada character’s back and forth w/ her rebllious, yet secretly sensitive teenage daughter and confrontational mother in law. Then you have the aspect of Christina Hawthorne always finding herself in a tight squeeze, pressure-packed circumstance where she has have the courage and boldness to make last-minute, rash decisions that eventually put the board in a bind but ultimately benefit the patients. I love Christina’s wild, big hair and casual, natural beauty. Her in your face realness and no holds barred attitude. Being a hopeless romantic at heart, my absolute favorite part of the first season was the developing relationship between Christina and Dr. Tom Wakefield! That beach deck scene in the last episode definitely left me wanting more! Can’t wait for Season 2 to start June 22!

Definitely love her attitude! Girls need more strong role models like her on television.

I have seen the show a few times and I love Jada’s role. She plays a tough love nurse who both mentors the younger nurses and scolds them when they deserve it. Good to see strong but compassionate women of color on TV.

I like the fact that her hair is always gorgeous! Whether its curls are uniformed or all over the place, whether its straightened or pulled back. Jada’s character on HawthoRNe is easy to relate to as a busy mom, just trying to fairly juggle it all.

Oh my goodness!! I loved the first season of HawthoRNe and am so looking forward to the next season. I love how Christina shows her love and compassion for EVERYONE! From the patients, to the nurses she works with, to her daughter, even to the homeless lady who had a baby and wasn’t allowed to keep it. She does so even at her own risk and I love her for that. In my books, she made nursing (basically taking care of someone) look tha bomb!! What a Woman!!!

I love her characters passion for what she does. She will stop at nothing. She fights hard for her patients and co-workers. She also struggles in her personal life, a rocky relationship with her mother-in-law and the developing relationship with her daughter. It’s a show anyone can relate to. I’d want a nurse like her on my side. I am so excited about this season!

I watched HawthoRNe from the first episode, and have watched the repeats this spring. I love the fact that Christina Hawthorne reminds me of my sister who a compassionate, patient-oriented, no-nonsense nurse. Christina (and my sister) don’t let the fact that RN, and MD is behind their name stop them from ensuring the best possible care for their patients. I also think this character mirrors Ms. Pinkett-Smith’s real-life personality. I hope the series lasts a good, long time!!

I admire the fact that her character, who is a tribute to her mother (who is/was an RN), is real, and shows her vulnerable side. She really cares about her patients and her staff, while still trying to balance her teenage daughter and stiff mother-in-law.

I love how Christina is so very confident and knows how to get the job done. She isn’t afraid to speak up even when it is not in her own best interest.

I just love Christina’s professionalism and take charge spirit. She is a great character who has it all going for her in all the right places!

I love Hawthorne as well as Jada as a person. Jada is a strong woman in realty and it takes a real woman to play such a powerful and real role that she does on the show. What I like most about the show is the real life emotion that Hawthorne can pull out of you while watching. Iv watched a show and take away lessons that I can apply in my own life and find myself reflecting on until the next episode. Her Christian ways come through pure and unrelentlessly passionate. Holding tight to her moral and beliefs, everyday putting her own life and family at risk to do what is right is honorable by God standards. Taking care of His people is a beautiful thing!
