Notice Anything Different?

by afrobella

I’m proud to announce that I’m the newest member of the Glam Network!

The decision came after a lot of deliberation, and patient-question-answering by the peeps at Glam. I didn’t want to sign a contract with just anyone, and it’s important to me that the advertising on this site goes with the Afrobella aesthetic and outlook. And Glam is totally with it, and they respect my vision.

This means more ads, more readers, and more wonderful things to come for Afrobella! So excited! You may notice some glitchy advertising issues today and over the weekend — we’re still working on the back end to make Internet Explorer and Firefox look perfect at the same time. So excuse our dust while we renovate a little bit around here.

I’ll be back with a rare Saturday post to answer your questions for little afrobellas. For now, here’s a throwback video from an artist who’s been on my mind these days. Does ANYONE know what the heck happened to Patra? She was rough and raw and too sexy and tough. But if she came out now, I think her comeback could be HUGE! C’mon, Patra – don’t let Sean Paul be the only dancehall artist crossing over. You laid the foundation!

It’s impossible to find a G-rated Patra video, but this one was always my favorite. Shuffle the deck, me a the queen in a the pack!

Happy Friday, everyone!

    RE: Patra……..
Luv her too! I just saw her in a fairly recent music video on youtube. She was wearing all white and looked royal.
I will look for it again.
Maybe a few years old? She looked more sexy and beautiful than I remember her in the 90’s!!!!!
She looks like she hasnt aged one day.

    And CONGRATS Afrobella!

Re: Patra, she released a song and video in JA last year as part of her comeback plans. Still waiting on the album – the song was tepid, the video ice cold. Then she got herself in some kind of legal drama and is before the courts in Montego Bay on some kind of fraud thing. Honestly though, Patra should have never taken such a looooonnnng hiatus. However, I will say this saw her last year and she was gorgeous – still rocking the braids, this time they were micros, but her skin was sooooo beautiful and her body was kicking – had to kick the hubby under the table he was staring so hard.

I remember reading an article, I think, in a VIBE magazine some years back and it showed Patra, sans the braids, and spoke of how she basically had to ‘get away from it all’. I got the jist that she might’ve gone a little crazy or something. Not like ‘that’ crazy, but that she had to really step back and check herself and get back in tune with things. I did like her though, uni-suit and all 😉

Not feeling the Glam advertising look. It looks like spam and as of sunday, the ads DO NOT reflect the organic nature of afrobella (Celebrities in Bikinis–Lohan, that OC chic)–all the while, what does appeal to us (Anita Grant) has been pushed down.

Have you thought about approaching afro-owned businesses and offering them advertising packages?
I know you have to look out for yourself, so, I’m not mad at you.

Hey Chia — you know what, thanks for your honesty. I appreciate knowing your take on it.

The ads show up different for everyone depending on IP address, so I haven’t seen any celebs in bikinis. But the nice thing is, I can let my ad rep know and we can hopefully rectify that.

To be honest, I tried hard with the advertising thing on my own for the whole first year of having the site. But I just couldn’t get it to that point, you know? Having no experience in that field, coupled with barely having enough time to write posts four days a week meant that I just couldn’t also be my own advertising representative. And lots of the successful companies I contacted didn’t respond to the e mailed request of some new “blogger.” So here’s hoping that having a representative and network helps me to get some good deals going, and also helps me deal with advertising requests from those afro-owned companies in a more professional and timely manner. I will continue to monitor the kind of ads that are on the site. Although I know more ads = bigger things for Afrobella, I never want to go too far over the deep end and have ad interests start consuming the site’s main goals. Thanks again for commenting.

I remember Patra’s remake of Grace Jones’ “Pull up to the bumper.” I was wondering what happened to her.
