Oscar Fashion Fever!

by afrobella

Forget about the films, the real Oscar drama is on the red carpet! I saw some absolutely stunning looks over at Oh No They Didn’t, and had to share my favorites with you.

GabbyMarchesa

This was an epic Oscar night for black actresses, and an epic Oscar night for plus size women. Before the ceremony much ado was made of Gabourey Sidibe’s Oscar dress possibilities — blisteringly and brilliantly covered by Erica Kennedy, author of the funny, fierce Feminista and Bling: A Novel. The phenomenal Kate Harding outlined Gabby’s red carpet history and her prospects. And tonight she came through in blue Marchesa festooned with diamond-like appliques.

I didn’t love the dress, but I think Gabby was resplendent and her MAKEUP was to DIE for. Whoever did the makeup, holla at a bella because I want the deetz!

Mo’ Nique also looked resplendent in blue. She wore blue as an homage to Hattie McDaniel — to read a beautiful tribute to Oscar’s first African American winner, read Rita Dove’s poem, via 55 Secret Street. And when she won, the tribute she gave to Hattie McDaniel was truly stirring. Mo’Nique had her face as beautifully beat as evah, and she rocked the hell out of that ruched dress.

The one-shoulder trend was big (I’m not a fan, IDK #shrug). Mariah worked it.

As did Queen Latifah — and I liked the blinged out baby pink look – Queen is always so regal. She just makes me smile whenever I see her on the red carpet!

Anika Noni Rose looked adorable and fresh faced as always, something about her personality just seems so approachable and endearing to me! She looked super pretty and worked the night’s other trend — strapless, with a lush, full skirt.

I MUST say, Zoe Saldana may have worn my second most favorite dress of the night. I am a fool for purple and that dress absolutely took my breath away when she came down the stairs during the ceremony. Look how excited she is to be wearing it!

For Oscar night, I love a little over the top drama. Which is why I loved Nicole Richie’s dress.

She looked fierce. Sleek. A little severe. Very Hollywood. Gorgeous!

But my FAVORITE dress of the night was worn by Rachel McAdams. Look at her. She knows she looks amazing. Beyond gorgeous!!

I love Zoe Saldana, I think she’s super talented and super gorgeous, but I hate that dress. It looks like the purple people eater. I think Nicole Richie really pulled it out, and I loved loved loved what Queen Latifah wore. Except for SJP, Eeeryone else looked gorgeous but safe. I got that feeling from everyone this year, I wonder if it had something to do with the recession or maybe safe is in fashion this year.

p.s. You should get a picture of Jennifer Lopez, bella, she really looked amazing.

Queen Latifah – loved her look as usual. Gabby was radiant! Elizabeth Banks rocked that grey gown! Lenny Kravitz was smokin’ (thank goodness of HDTV – LOL)!!!!!!!

Is Gabby also making a tribute to Hattie McDaniel? I only ask this because not only is she wearing blue but the silvery flowers on her shoulders mimic the real flowers that McDaniel wore on Oscar night … coincidence? Take a look:

I read somewhere that all of the people associated with Precious wore tributes to Hattie McDaniel. That’s why Oprah, Gabby, Mo’Nique and Mariah were all in blue. I thought Jennifer Lopez looked fabulous, can’t say that Zoe rocked my boat.

Actually. Paula Patton who was also in “Precious”, did not wear blue. She wore a wonderful dark orange. Did Hattie McDaniel wear a blue dress the night she won her Oscar? One really can’t tell from the picture as that it was in B&W?

Everyone looked fabulous. What a wonderful way to pay homage to Hattie McDaniel by wearing blue.

I think J-Lo was the best dressed hands down. Her dress was to die for.

Dont forget about Jennifer Lopez’s dress, it was so pretty, and structured and fit her prefectly! I hated Sarah Jessica Parker’s dress! I had to say it! Queen looked wonderful!, Monique worked her curves in that blue, and Zoe’s dress was good in theory but just a little off.
