Swarthy Daisy – So Cute For Summertime!

by afrobella

As you may know from reading this blog, I love beautiful afro-inspired anything. So it goes without saying that one of my favorite Etsy stores is Swarthy Daisy, a line of tees, tanks, and totes all bedecked with an afro-loving daisy woman.

In this interview with Newly Natural, the creator explains her inspiration.

“Swarthy Daisy is an online company that basically focuses on empowering women (and men who love women) on a real organic/casual level. I wanted to have a brand that focused back on people like me, a little bit of urban flavor, with a pinch of country, thus the Swarthy Daisy woman was formed. The word swarthy is taken from a Bible translation in the Song of Solomon 1: 5, 6 where a Black female is addressed. To explain exactly what I mean, look the word Swarthy up in a dictionary. Also The word Swarthy is found in some translations of the Bible such as here in The Song of Solomon 1:5, 6 which says: β€œI am black, but comely, Oh ye daughters of Jerusalem, As the tents of Kedar, As the curtains of Solomon. Look not upon me, because I am swarthy, Because the sun hath scorched me…”

From there I added the daisy because it made it even more personal because I like daisies. They are such a beautiful flower, thus comes the concept for Swarthy Daisy. The sun gives humans and flowers energy, so I wanted to create an image of a woman that is natural and organic looking that is energized and ready to take on the world!”

How awesome is that?

I love her tank tops, and her tees come in sizes up to 2X. I’m dying to get a sling bag (wish they came in darker colors too!)

The Essential Swarthy Daisy Natural Hair Kit is probably the coolest item currently offered by the brand — a tote bag laden with all the haircare must haves, afro picks, turbie twists, satin pillowcases and all! AND according to Swarthy Daisy’s blog, spend more than $10 in the month of May, and you get a free afro pick (complete with fist). Not gonna lie, I think I need one in my life.

Swarthy Daisy is SO adorable for summertime, am I right? If you see me rockin’ a cute tote bag with a bright yellow daisy on it, now you know where I got it from!
