Bellas, I’m about to go on a special trip! Today I leave for New York, for the beginning of New York Fashion Week and for some truly special events that I still can’t quite believe I’m going to. I knew I had to hit the streets of New York looking fly from head to toe. And because I usually wear all black everything when I go there, I wanted my nails to be the ultimate accessory. This was not the week for my usual DIY mani. I needed something special. I knew I had to holla at Spifster.
Tacarra “Spifster” Sutton isn’t a manicurist. She’s an ARTIST. This is only the second time we’ve met up, but I can honestly say she’s one of the best nail artists I’ve ever been lucky enough to meet and one of the best to paint these digits of mine.
NOW on to the mani!
I knew I wanted to do something BOLD and red, in honor of it being American Heart Month. So the base color you see here is from MAC’s latest collecton. This is called Obey Me, and it’s from the Wonder Woman collection.
After painting every finger except my index fingers in that commanding shade of red, Spifster reached for Milani’s gold glitter for that last nail. POW! Already!
Now that the base colors were in place, she started coming up with the design. Starting with her white nail art bottle of Kiss nailpolish she started painting her signature stripes, zig zags and letters. No, the letters don’t actually spell anything. But it’s fun to let people wonder!
Spifster accented my nails with white, black, and blue designs on a red and gold glitter background. Her precision is just astonishing to witness. I could never do what she does! Absolutely loving this very special manicure. Can’t wait to show off my nails in NYC to show the fashionistas what Chicago is working with!

I would never have that done, because of the upkeep and also because I wouldn’t want to be perceived as someone who would spend a lot of time on something so frivolous, but I have to admit that most of those finishes are really cool.
