Afrobella’s Coming to London!

by afrobella

There are so many places I’ve wanted to go and haven’t made it to yet. As I get older I keep dreaming, and keep working at making my dreams come true. And I’m so happy to share one of them with you! I’m going to London this month!! HOORAY!!!

I’m so excited to go to UK for the first time, there are so many things that I have been dreaming of seeing around London! I want to see all the touristy stuff and the landmarks — Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Camden Market, Piccadilly Circus, Hyde Park…I’m so ready! I will be staying in a central part of London and I look forward to just exploring and being a tourist across the pond for the first time ever, seeing my old friends and family from Trinidad, and meeting my UK bellas! I know through the years quite a few of you read my blog and have been supporters of Afrobella, and I so appreciate you and can’t wait to meet you!

I’m incredibly excited to attend the Afro Hair and Beauty Show in London and I’ll be there representing the Strength of Nature House of Brands, which includes African Pride, Beautiful Textures, Elasta QP and the brand-new re-launch of Mega Growth hair products.

brit beauty Afrobella invite

So what will I be doing in the UK, and where can we meet?

– On May 25th I’ll be making an appearance at Curlvolution at the Crown Plaza Docklands

– May 26th & 27th I’ll be at the Afro Hair and Beauty Show, at the Strength of Nature booth doing meet and greets!

– May 27th after the show, join me for the #BritBeauty Mixer at the Amber Bar In the Milk Lounge – from 6:30 to 10, I will be hosting a cocktail mixer showcasing the best of the Strength of Nature brands, taking photos and making new UK friends along with popular UK blogger Pelumi of Care For Your Hair!  RSVP to http://BritBeauty.Eventbrite.com to ensure your complementary admission.

So excited!

For my first visit to London where would you recommend that I eat, shop and visit? What are the must-see destinations for a first time visitor? Are there any other UK cities that I should try to make a day trip to? So many questions!

Woohoo! You know that’s my second home. You’re going to love it. For eating, make sure you try Nando’s and Hummingbird Bakery. Shopping, Portobello Road Market on Saturday and Spitafield’s Market on Sunday. And you definitely need to stop by Harrods. There is no other department store like it in the world.

Day trips to Bath, England and Stonehenge are fun! But you must book early to ensure you get the date you want. And technically, you could do a day trip to Paris. The Eurostar train will get you there in 2 hours and leaves London as early as 6am.

Have loads of fun! Can’t wait to hear all about it when you get back.

Yes go and see the family (about 40 miles one way from London though). Portobello Market is a must! Harrods is also another great place to check. Madame Tussauds. To go to Europe make sure you do not need a visa as you should get it before you leave USA. Check Princess Diana’s former home in London…Mind the Gap on the Tube 🙂 Enjoy!

But you asked for tips, so…borough market, Brixton market & village, Camden market, brick lane or tooting for Indian, the v&a, the Tate Modern, south bank, the market near Liverpool street (cannot remember the name at the moment), Shoreditch, Columbia Rd Flower Market, Covent Garden, Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Kensington palace, Chinatown, Soho, venn street market in Clapham. If the weather is nice, spend some time in the numerous parks & green spaces. Oxford & Regent Street, of course. Go see a show! The Bowie exhibition at the V&A is getting rave reviews!! There is so much…you will be busy!!!!

I know you love music Bella; I always enjoy an evening at Ronnie Scotts. Take the Tube to and from the airport, it’s cheap, and easy. Mind the gap and watch your wallet!

Also, please take enough time to run through Boot’s. I always hit them up for the Tea Tree wipes, smell so lovely and are purse-sized. Shop early and ship everything home from the hotel so you don’t have to worry about getting stuff through customs. Target carries Boot’s products here in the states but it is nothing like shopping there.

And like a few of the other girls said, you have to hit Harrods (if to do nothing but look). There is no other shopping store like it in the world.

Have a great time, and I can’t wait to hear all about your travel to London.

You should check out Selfridges Beauty Workshop http://wonderlusting.co.uk/2012/11/23/selfridges-beauty-workshop/ and BeautyMart if you’re in Harrods – it’s in Harvey Nichols next door. Harrods is a must for the OTTness of it all – you’ve never see so many gold plated surfaces in your life! Borough Market at London Bridge. Notting Hill. Westfield Shopping centre though you can probably get most things there in USA. If the weather is nice (and even if it’s not for the views) head to one of the rooftop bars – Sanctum Soho (though often quite smoky so be warned), Trafalgar, Roof Gardens, Aqua Kyoto and brand new ME bar. Have a drink at The Savoy. Brick Lane for curry. Get water taxi to Greenwich and if you can the brand new cable car across the river http://wonderlusting.co.uk/2012/12/15/new-london-cable-car-best-public-transport-in-london-ever/.

I’ll stop bombarding you now! You’ll have an amazing time.

Petticoat Lane market is the one near Liverpool St

Skip Portobello and go to Camden Market instead! I also love Spitalfields and Borough Market. As I’m a south of the river girl, I always suggest people see the Tate Modern (the view of St Paul’s Cathedral from the top floor bar is amazing, especially at night), Shakespeare’s Globe and then head up the river (even better on the Thamesclipper boat) to Southbank and the London Eye. No matter what you do, you’ll fall in love with London!
