A Powerful Message From Marsha Ambroisius

by afrobella

Marsha Ambroisius is everything I love and want to see more of in music today. Gorgeous and unique and talented beyond words. She’s an incredible songwriter and her singing can give me chills, it’s so beautifully melodious.

Her album Late Nights, Early Mornings will be released on February 22, and the second single she’s released would have been lovely enough on its own, but Marsha made it absolutely unforgettable with the concept of her video. This is Far Away.

Marsha looks stunning, and wow. The first time I saw this video, it left me with tears in my eyes. The message at the end reads:

Dear friends,

Every year over 1 million people commit SUICIDE. Some were BULLIED because of their SEXUALITY. I lost a friend to SUICIDE, and I’m asking all of you to support alternative lifestyles. Don’t put up with or join in with BULLYING. It’s time we become more aware in this WORLD. Take a responsibility to make a difference. So if my MUSIC can save one life, I’ve done my job.

I love you all so much.
Marsha

I absolutely LOVE that she’s taken this stance, and spoken out about this issue in our community. It’s the closest thing I’ve seen to a hip hop It Gets Better video. And the fact that she chose to debut this video on World Star Hip Hop is awesome indeed. I hope a lot of people who needed to see it, saw it and thought about the message.

What do you think, bellas? Are you feeling Marsha’s new song and video?

I loved the song before the video and I love it even more now. I love when artists stand for what they believe in and the labels let them express themselves.

Wow, the song is great but the video is amazing. This topic is rarely addressed in our community, I’m really glad to see Marsha using her voice to spread this message.

Love this video, Marsha is an amazing talent, if only our community would take the time to understand…I know that in our community we can’t get “acceptance” from everyone, but I’ll take “tolerance”for starters.

Afrobella–this is why I this site. I’m so fed mentally, intellectually, emotionally, spiritually and oh, yes, AFRONAPTURALLY!. I, too, love Marsha. Her music is indescribable and I’ve listened to this song countless times…each time shedding a tear for all the sisters and brothers (Black or otherwise) who have lost their lives due to ignorance, intolerance, hate and suicide. I’ve lost loved ones under each of these umbrellas and its time to stop the madness. Thank you Mz. Ambroisius. And thank you, Afrobella!

I do think suicide in general should be discussed more in our community and not just on one area/reason why people reach such a low point in their life.

It is grea to see artists take a positive stand on isues and produce beautiful music. Unfortunately , bullying and an intolerant world can make pepole feel as if they have no other choice but to make the ultimate sacrifice.
Had not heard the song so viewing it for the first time in conjunction with the video was beautiful.Floetry was/is one of my favorite groups so this was really special.
    Thanks

Thank you. I totally agree. People act lilke homosexuals are the ONLY burden bearers in this world. They are not the only people that feel pressure from bullying and eventually commit suicide from it. It can happen to any person or any group of people. Stop it.

This video made me cry a lil bit. There needs to be more artist that will take a public stand on issues like these. Way to go Marsha.

I know I am SO late in hearing this song and seeing this video but all I can say is OMG! I’ve been rocking with Marsha Ambrosius since Floetry and she has truly developed as an artist. Her soul and voice are unbelievable and she is just a beautiful person both inside and out. Can’t wait until the album drops!

The thing is, Marsha is speaking directly to something she’s seen and experienced in terms of losing a friend. No, gay people aren’t the only burden bearers, but that doesn’t mean her message isn’t important right now.

Loving Marsha. Diggin her as a woman, as an artist & as a true Sista. I am deeply moved by this song, the video, the lyrical content, the message. Sad thing is most channels in the states probably won’t play the video in its entirety.

I do believe that by recording this song & lending her gloriously soulful voice to this cause, she has truly made a difference.

I appreciate the msg greatly. It is nice to see a loving gay couple portrayed on television, not sexualized, not sensationalized, or hilariously flamboyant for everyone’s entertainment…just a loving normal healthy couple.

Lately, the images apart from this one I have seen exploit gays as being over-sexed & full of comedy. I feel sometimes ppl forget 1. you can a be a virgin and be gay, lesbian, transgendered or bisexual. Just as you can be a virgin who is attracted to the opposite sex. 2. Many people, including men are bisexual. 3. The LGBTQ community is full of long term couples, not just casual “lovers”

    (Steps off soap box) lol
