Prom Dress Picks by Afrobella’s Fashion Expert, Aramide Esubi!

by afrobella

So far you’ve met the new Afrobella makeup expert, the new Afrobella fitness expert – and now please allow me to introduce you to the new Afrobella fashion expert, Aramide “Deedee” Esubi – AKA The Sassy Peach. While I focus on plus size fashion, Dee Dee will be here to offer tips and trends for the rest of you bellas!

Dee Dee is beautiful, funny, smart, sweet and genuine. And when it comes to style, she’s got an amazing eye for what will look great on bodies of every shape and size. She’s helped me look fly at quite a few events, and on her recently relaunched blog The Sassy Peach, she’s sharing inspiration galore! But enough from me, it’s time to hear from her.

Who is Aramide “Dee Dee” Esubi?

Aramide “Dee Dee” Esubi is the woman behind The Sassy Peach. She originally hails from St. Louis but currently resides in Chicago. As a young girl playing in her mother’s clothes and shoes and watching her older sister get all dolled up, she developed a serious love for fashion. She was always encouraged to express herself so she did that best through wearing whatever her heart desired. This gave her the confidence to feel good about herself and always love what she saw in the mirror.

As a wardrobe stylist Aramide’s penchant for fashion and art collide when she is at work. She has been making a name for herself doing creative photo shoots and fashion shows in the Chicago area, and continues to make an impact with her hard work and dedication to her craft. Be prepared to hear much more about this talented stylist as she continues to gain exposure through her growing work.

Hi Bellas! Afrobella has some of the best readers and fans in the blogosphere and I am so happy to become part of the Afrobella family!

Well, it’s that time of year when high school girls begin to scour every nook and cranny for that one special dress. Yes it’s time for Prom! While I’d like to completely forget my Prom altogether, I hope yours is just perfect. My BEST dress advice is to look for the dress that is you and only you. Wear what you LOVE. Don’t worry about what your friends are wearing. This is the night for you to look like your best self. Do that by staying true to who you are and what you are truly comfortable in. Everything else will fall into place.

To help you in your search I’ve selected the 5 best places to look for your dress.

1. Macy’s

L: Trixxi Empire A-Line – $70 | R: Trixxi One Shoulder – $70

These are my 2 favorite picks when I did my search at Macy’s. Look like a million bucks when you spent under $100. The money you save can be used to accessory splurge if you so choose.

2. ASOS

L to R: Asymmetric Bardot Cocktail – $117 | Embellished Hip Slinky – $99 | Halter Maxi – $54 | One Shoulder Jersey Drape – $72

ASOS has a plethora of dresses to match any style. If you’re looking for a big variety to choose from this is your best bet.

3. Rent The Runway

L to R: Badgley Mischka Lady of Love – Rental $75 Retail $500 | Diane von Furstenberg Sparkle and Shine – Rental $50 Retail $345 | Tibi Roman Goddess Embellished – Rental $100 Retail $595 | Diane von Furstenberg Sweetie Pie – Rental $75 Retail $650

Wish you could wear the same dress you saw your favorite celeb starlet rocking? Well with Rent the Runway you can! With RTR you can rent a fabulous designer dress for a rental fee as low as $50! This is a great option if you know you will most likely wear your dress for this one special night.

4. Charlotte Russe

L: Crossed-Back Ruched – $27 | R: Pretty Petals One Shoulder – $30

I love the bright, punchy colors of these Charlotte Russe dresses. If you’re on a very tight budget at under $50 this is definitely the way to go.

5. Windsor

L: Karah-Navy – $99 | R: Kierra-Black – $99

Windsor is known for offering dresses for just about any and every occasion. Long? Short? Fluffy? Straight? Just about whatever your heart desires they have.

I hope I’ve given you a great jumping off point to begin your search. Go forth and hunt down that perfect dress!

Life’s A Peach. Style It Fabulously.

Welcome DeeDee!!! I actually have the Trixxi Empire A-Line dress from Macy’s in red. I LOVE IT! It’s so incredibly flattering for a fuller figured diva. I only had to make a small alteration at the neckline because it was cut a bit low for my tastes. Otherwise it worked great for the event I bought it for. Cute, fun and flirty!

Sassy Peach awesome picks!! Though my prom is waaaaaay past me, a girl still loves to look at a gorgeous dress. And Rent the Runway choices would be something that I would wear today.
