The weather’s starting to heat up around these parts and I am SO ready for it! Spring has sprung and summer is around the corner – it’s time for backyard BBQ’s and picnics in the park and bike rides along the lakefront here in Chicago! Forget Christmas – THIS is the most wonderful time of the year. I can’t wait!
As the temperature creeps higher and higher, my beauty needs change. I amp up the primer, the sun protection and the powder. I’ve been playing with a few new fun products and funky colors and sharing my results on Instagram. Now that I can speak from a place of knowledge and experience, let me put you up on game! I’ll show you some of the fun looks I’ve been creating for myself as I go out and about, and I’ll tell you which products I’m excited to try next. Let’s get into some new makeup products I’ve discovered that I bet you will LOVE for summer!
Lately I’m super extra obsessed with cat eye makeup and long-lasting liquid or gel eye liners. I used to STRUGGLE with liquid liner but things have gotten so much better and easier in that arena of cosmetics. There are new applicators that make for an easier approach, there are new formulas that transfer less and last longer. There are sick new colors and fabulous finishes. I’m a big fan of Lancome Artliner. I love the short applicator (makes it easy even for me, Jiggly McShakyHands). I also LOVE the colors they come in — here I’m wearing Amethyst, which looks like plain ol’ regular purple on the website but in person is a fierce glittery purple with an iridescent element. LOVE. And my lipstick is Urban Decay Super Saturated Lip Color in Apocalypse, which is a deep plum that enhances my natural lip color beautifully.
I love a purple on purple eye, and I used Lancome Artliner on my top lid, but lined both my waterline and along the lid with Sonia Kashuk’s eye definer in purple passion.
If anyone tells you that you can’t rock a purple eye AND a purple lip at the same time, don’t be afraid to tell them that they’re wrong. Look! I’m doing it again here!
Same Lancome Artliner, but this time the lip is by New Orleans’ own Magnolia Makeup. Their new Velour Galore collection of matte lip stains come in some fabulous, out-there colors! This one’s called Midnight Violet, and I went light with the application, adding Cargo Cosmetics gloss in Aruba (which I acquired via the We Are ONYX Glam box. Have you subscribed to We Are ONYX yet? What are you WAITING for, they are stepping up their game)!
This next look, I LOVE – but I didn’t do this makeup. The incredible Edward Cruz did! And it’s all from classic Japanese makeup brand Shiseido — who knew they made makeup for deeper skin tones? I sure didn’t, until this amazing makeover!
I stopped by the Shiseido “Fun & Fierce” Master Class to visit Edward, and he blessed my face while introducing me to a brand I’d always been curious about but never tried before. Here I’m wearing their Radiant Lifting Foundation (I believe I’m Golden Brown), and Luminizing Satin Face Color blush. I fell in love with the texture and range of their Perfect Rouge lipsticks. More to come on this historic brand!
If I’m going out and about this is a pretty standard look for me, and everyone on Instagram commented about how natural the look was, but it required more products than you may think! Let me break it down:
I’m wearing:
Becca Cosmetics Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme (I’m amber)!
Sonia Kashuk undetectable loose translucent powder. This has been my go-to setting powder lately. This and Black Opal. Everything you need.
Iman Cosmetics Sheer Finish Bronzing Afterglow 3-in-1 blush, bronzer and highlight! Get it via Doobop.com!
Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess bronzer – don’t sleep on Estee Lauder, they make some amazing products!
Lancome Artliner in gold. Subtle but FIERCE
Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash mascara – I like it. It gives a thick, full, soft look that’s very natural to me.
MAC Cosmetics lipmix in fucshia and pro longwear eyeliner. As the weather heats up, I reach for products with staying power.
Like I said, it takes a village to create a selfie 🙂
OK so this is a super easy eye look that I love. Check it out!
Wanna know a secret? I mostly applied the eyeshadow with my finger. It’s all Urban Decay! I’m rocking their limited edition eyeshadow duo in X + Half Baked, with a little touch of Jilted from the Electric Palette. I also used the Urban Decay Primer Potion so the look stayed put all day!
Obviously I adore color, but lately I’ve also been loving a clean, fresh, nude look. It’s the kind of look I may have been bored by as a twenty-something but now I appreciate the value of a fresh face and glorious SKIN. For this look I’m rocking both the BB and CC cream by Iman Cosmetics. BB Cream is more of your traditional cream in a tube. Iman’s CC cream is a powder to cream. It gives great coverage!
I need to write a follow up post on my skincare these days because it has made ALL the difference. On my lips in the last photos, I’m rocking COVERGIRL’s Jumbo Gloss Balm in Cocoa Twist. Sam Fine himself handed me this gloss and told me it’d look great on me – and he was right! It’s so subtle and pretty and NUDE. Love.
Those are some of the latest makeup looks I’ve tried and I think you’ll love! See anything you’re dying to try?
