November in Chicago means crisp air, falling leaves and a return to glamorous indoor events. It’s the time of year for evening gowns and fabulous coats, suits and shiny shoes, arts and culture. This Thursday evening in Chicago I’ll be there at the Harlem Fine Arts Show, to celebrate the season and enjoy the incredible art on display. The Harlem Fine Arts Show is the largest traveling African Diaspora art show in the United States. Last year my husband and I attended and had a ball – click here to read my recap of the 2016 HFAS.

It was such a fabulous event, featuring the crème de la crème of Chicago art appreciators and creators! And this year, thanks to my friends at COUNTRY Financial, I’m going back to enjoy the festivities.

The Harlem Fine Arts Show will kick off on Thursday November 16th at Malcolm X College (MXC). This year’s theme is “The Health and Healing Power of Art,” and they’ve taken things up a notch. Of course the main focus and highlight of the show is still the spectacle of work from nearly 60 artists from across the African Diaspora, but this year there’s also a series of lectures featuring the artists telling their own stories, sharing their knowledge and encouraging and teaching us how to build an exquisite and valuable art collection. The experience is sure to be invaluable.

Every evening has a unique themed reception that is open to the public, and a portion of ticket sales will benefit a variety of Chicagoland philanthropic organizations. Click here for all the details on this year’s HFAS art tour in Chicago – this Thursday evening it begins with a gala salute to African Americans in Medicine, “an upscale evening connecting art and healing.” You’ll find me mingling, admiring the art, and hanging out at the COUNTRY Financial Lounge! Come find me and we can have a drink at the Monaco Cocktail Bar, and check out the display of hand-painted Converse shoes designed by Chicago artist, Kasmos.kari blak.  Before that, or if you can’t make it you can click here to enter the COUNTRY Financial sweepstakes, to win your own pair of handpainted Converse by Kasmos.kari blak!

His work is so dope. I love handpainted art!

Hi afrobella, I’m a south side Chicago girl and I’d love to attend this event. I’ve always had a passion for art in all mediums so to be able to attend the Harlem Fine Arts Show would be an amazing opportunity.
