Adios, Itchy Winter Skin – How Olay Moisture Ribbons Came to The Rescue

by afrobella

This post was sponsored by Olay, but these experiences are all mine!

I’ve been living in Chicago since 2009 and at this point I’ve seen my share of winters. Some have been mild, some have been horrendous. I’ve definitely had my experiences with winter’s specific beauty and personal care issues and come to learn a few things the hard way. I’m at the point where I can predict when the weather will take a turn based on the texture of my skin and the changes I go through. If you live somewhere cold, you likely know what I mean. It’s a seasonal thing – you go from hot, humid summer to cool, crisp fall and then one day you wake up and realize that it’s time for that dry, itchy winter skin. It starts on my legs and creeps on up my hips, my torso – when it’s out of control, I’m itchy and dry all over and believe me I am NOT a fan of that. I didn’t even really know how dry and ashy my skin could get until I moved to Chicago. Now it’s an annual battle against ash! My challenge is fighting dry, itchy winter skin every day.

How do I do it? I step up my skin care and fight it from every angle. I use my dry brush at the beginning of the week, and then towards the end of the week mix up a sugar scrub with coarse brown sugar and coconut oil, and use that weekly to exfoliate. And then I set the tone daily with my morning shower. I set a high standard to meet my winter shower needs — it’s all about the body wash. My winter body cleanser can’t be too thin, it can’t be too runny. I’m not trying to waste my time or money on products that don’t work, I need moisture and fragrance and gentle cleansing, and I need it now! So when wintertime comes around, I switch up my products for ingredients of maximum thickness and emollience. Let me tell you about my latest favorite product that’s helping me meet and beat the winter skin challenge — Olay Moisture Ribbons Plus moisturizing body wash! It’s helping me reclaim my shower time by giving me everything I need all in one product.

I’ve been a fan of the Olay brand pretty much since childhood, from the face products to the body products. It’s one of my never-fail go-to brands for luxe personal care at an affordable price. I already loved Olay’s body washes in general, but these new Olay Moisture Ribbons Plus moisturizing body washes are on another level. They’re my absolute favorites for the season. Here’s why — Manuka honey!

Honey has historically been beloved and used for antibacterial beautification and moisturization, and world famous New Zealand Manuka honey is known for promoting healing within and without. As an ingredient in this body wash it makes for such a decadent, necessary, moisturizing shower experience for winter skin. The formulation is so luxe – the double ribbon formula involves a signature blend of moisturizers and a thick shea butter swirl. This body wash has both cleansing and moisturizing components so if you’re lotion-averse (like my husband, bless his heart and his itchy, dry skin that he refuses to lotion up because stubborn), it’s a foolproof way to begin protecting your skin against the elements. Just lather with your puff or scrubby of choice and rinse. And if you’re like me, it is an essential step in your winter skin strategy. Next steps, lock in that moisture with body butter and body oil!

I’m loving Olay’s rich and heady new Manuka honey fragrance, it’s so warm, nurturing and delicious. But I always love a calming and comforting lavender scent, especially for a soothing evening shower wind-down before bed (or post winter-workout). So far we’ve already faced some super cold days here in the Chi and my seasonal eczema and itchy dryness started to emerge. Thankfully these moisture ribbons are coming to the rescue, helping me overcome winter’s harsh effects with smooth, soft skin from head to toe. If you give it a try, let me know what you think — join me in the Winter Skin Challenge! When you try Olay Moisture Ribbons Plus, come back here and let me know if you’re experiencing softer and more moisturized skin after just one use, or share on social using their hashtag #WinterSkinChallenge. Follow Olay on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more info on beating ashy, itchy winter skin!

good info. even here in Los Angeles, winter can be drying. I’ve got Latina skin — in addition to witchy from itchies, it makes me feel old & ugly…
