5 Fave New Body Washes

August 20, 2010 by afrobella 47 Comments

Recently we had houseguests in town and one of the main topics of discussion became our bathroom. Specifically one corner of the shower stall, which is cluttered with no less than five body washes at the moment.

Oh hello, shower cat!

“Why do you have so many?” asked my friend John.

“Because I am a beauty blogger. Reviewing products is what I do!” was my pithy response.

“But why keep so many in the shower?” he asked.

Good question. My morning shower can determine my mood for the rest of the day. And one of my favorite ways to get my day going right is by choosing the right body wash for whatever mood I’m in (or whatever mood I wanna be in!) Here are my top five current favorites!

1 – Caress Whipped Souffle. If you want to start out your day feeling decadent, feminine and sexy – this is the way to go! An ultra thick, ultra luxurious body wash that leaves your skin feeling lotion-soft. AND it smells like White Peach Cream (or Blackberry Cream, depending on your choice). This is that hot-date-night, girls-night-out, getting-ready-for-something-special, enjoy-being-a-girl kind of body wash. So you KNOW I love it!

2 – Tone Daily Detox Purifying Body Wash with White Clay & Pink Jasmine. While I’ve never been disappointed with their quality, for some reason I wasn’t really checking much for Tone body products. I’m more of a body wash girl than a soap bar girl, and the scents and formulations just didn’t inspire me to pick them from the other slender bottles of colorful fluid on the shelves. I was sleeping big time, y’all! The new Tone Daily Detox wash is AWESOME. It’s a white clay base which may make you think uh oh, this may be grainy…but it isn’t. It’s super thick and lathers deliciously, and the light, clean floral scent makes this a favorite of both myself and my hubby. It leaves my skin feeling super soft and clean. AND it’s $2.99 for a big bottle! Score!

3 – Cleanlogic Body Washes. This innovative new brand is perfect for you if you’re looking for effective, affordable, unique body and bath cleansing products. Aloe leaf juice, the nopal leaf, vitamin E and grapeseed extract are a few of the ingredients they use to ensure a spa-quality experience in your shower every day. The bottles are studded with braille, because cleanlogic supports their own non-profit organization – the Inspiration Foundation – that empowers and enables those who are blind, or who deal with hearing loss or physical disabilities. Besides the charitable angle and the inspired ingredients, there are other reasons why cleanlogic rocks my world – their products are GREAT! Their mint body wash is refreshing without being harsh, perfect for a morning wake-me-up. But my favorite of their fragrances is the sugar and rice combo. It’s gentle, mild, sweet and nurturing. The body wash followed by the body lotion make my skin feel clean, soft, and feminine. Get yourself some of this awesome – $7.99 at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

4 – Dr. Bronner’s Magic All-One castile soap. I know SO MANY bellas who SWEAR by Dr. Bronner. This is the gold standard for anyone with concerns about fair trade issues or questionable ingredients. Dr. Bronner combines organic extra virgin coconut, olive, jojoba and hemp oils, together with pure essential oils, for a product that leaves you feeling SUPER clean. The peppermint and eucalyptus in particular can leave you feeling TOO clean (if you know what I mean), so I think less is more when it comes to all-over shower use. Having offered that caveat, Dr. Bronner’s soaps ROCK, and now they’re available at Target! You can use his classic soaps for everything from your skin and your hair to your laundry and intimate items. I’m dying to get my hands on the new Organic Shikakai soaps – they sound awesome!

5 – Suave Mango Mandarin. I’m generally not a fruity-scented person, and I’m definitely not a citrus-scented person. But there’s something about this fruitylicious combination that just cheers me up in the morning. It isn’t an overwhelming fruit fragrance – just gentle and upbeat enough to make you smile in the shower. And it’s super affordable – $3.49 for 12 oz. at Drugstore.com!

Those are the five washes currently cluttering up my shower stall. Have you tried any of them? What are your latest faves?

This is awesome. I’m a total body wash hoarder, too. Dr. Bronner’s almond is by far my favorite daily wash, though. Because it is all natural, not tested on animals, and fair trade, in addition to keeping my skin soft and neutral smelling so I can indulge in lotions and potions. 🙂

Thanks for a well-rounded review, ‘Trice!

my pleasure Lyssa-Lyss!! I need to try the almond, it may be better for all-over use! The peppermint is a bit too tingly sometimes (but sometimes tingly is good). Thanks for commenting! xoxoxo

My favs right now are also Caress Whipped Souffle in blackberry cream but that is my nightly treat. I love how thick and creamy it is. Softsoap Cherry Blossom and wild bamboo is a summer edition and has become my husband’s body wash of choice. And lastly, Caress Evenly Gorgeous, love that brown sugar scent on my skin. Not currently in rotation but forever a fav, B&B Brown Sugar and Fig will be coming back in the Fall.

brown sugar and fig sounds DELISH!!! I also love Softsoap body washes. I’ve been eyeing the coconut scrubby one, may have to try it (when I’m done with one of these 5!)

I am currently using the Whipped Souffle in Blackberry Cream. Love the smell. another favorite by Caress that I keep is the Evenly Gorgeous body wash. I also love CO Bigelow’s Vitamin Metha Body Wash for after the gym because that peppermint oil is invigorating and makes me tingle. I’m not sure if Bath & Body Works still carries it.

I use the Almond and Peppermint Dr. Bronner’s also. My shower is filled with body washes. lol

I love the Caress Whipped Souffle. It smells wonderful and makes my skin so soft.
My new favorite is Organic Raw Shae Butter Wash by Shae Moisture. I bought it at Target. It was $9.99. The best thing about it is that it’s enriched with frankincense an myrrh. Those ingredients alone made me plop down my ten bucks. OOOOO WEEE…. It smells soooo goood! It’s rich and thick and creamy and lathers all over the place. Its the best.

I do not skimp on body washes. And I agree that the body wash one uses on any morning totally depends on one’s mood. It doesn’t make sense to have just one body wash at any given period. They are not all the same.

Anyhow, on a different tangent, how’s Dr Bronner’s for hair instead of shampoo?

[Again on another tangent, Afrobella, please do more posts about natural hair. I’m late to the party since being dreadlocked I don’t pay much attention to my hair, but I have a little daughter and I’m beginning to realise that I need to engage more with her hair – which of course is natural. 🙂 )

I use it as a shampoo often. Because it doesn’t have any harmful additives, it is great for hair and gets it clean, clean, clean. No residues at all. Plus a little goes a very long way.

Highly recommended as a shampoo among everything else you can use it for.

LOL I thought everyone kept a handful of body washes near the shower – I’ve always done that. If I use the same one too many days in a row, I get cranky: “Oh *this* again?”.

My current faves are Bath and Body Works Forever Sunshine (smells happy) and Twilight Woods (smells more expensive than it is), Oil of Olay plus Creme Ribbons with Almond Oil (I don’t even need lotion after!), Caress Tahitian Renewal Body Wash (it exfoliates too!), and Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash (sometimes I just wanna smell “clean”).

I have been a fan of Dr. Bronner’s for what seems like forever. My grandmother used it for everything and when I grew up, I keep a bottle around.

It’s the greatest shampoo. I normally lean toward lavender or the baby mild. Citrus is relatively new and could be a great on for cleaning and an eye-opener for the am shower. But for me, I think it’s time to try Rose.

I like Dr. Woods Shea Vision Soap, which is similar to Dr. Bronner’s without being so *squeaky* clean in feel. My husband LOVES it. I’m definitely going to have to give Tone a try after reading your review.

I love Bronners for bathing but it strips my hair of its oils and causes it to be to dry. Bronners is concentrated so you can dilute it for the hair.

I’m allergic to many fragrances so my soaps are limited. But Bronners fragrances don’t bother me.

For instance, if you’ll be giving away souvenirs to corporate clients, you would want to choose a
drive that’s not flashy with loud colors. There are a number of people
who do the majority of their Christmas shopping online.

If you regularly do business with multiple people within a department, trying to come up with multiple
gift ideas can be downright perplexing.

It is also important to check any item you are
buying to see if it is in good condition. What you choose to give as corporate gifts will
depend on who you’re giving them to and your industry (average life time value of a client not what’s customary in your industry; don’t copy
your competitors, it’s rarely a good idea). Some of them is
included with a pen while a few others is given a small stapler on it.

I LOVE the Tone body wash- when I get out of the shower after using it, I always end up smelling my arm the rest of the day, as weird as that sounds. I just LOVE the smell, and it leaves my skin feeling very soft and clean.

I’m running out to Target raht nah! to get that Tone body wash..
I’m a hoarder with anything having to do with scents..
Bath and Body Works came out with a “Sandlewood Rose” body wash in their aromatherapy collection. If you can find some, hop on it!! Smells like Heaven!

I also like that Oil of Olay body Ribbons thingie.. It’s thick so I have to be careful, but it’s Nice..
There’s a natural store called “Lush” that makes this thing called “hippy happy shower gel”.. the smell is “happy” (for lack of a better word) and the fact that it’s natural is a plus for me…

    Great recommendations..

LOL @ shower cat! One of my cats finds herself in the sitting in the shower immediately after I use it. No clue why—maybe she likes the heat but she’s literally a scaredy cat so it shocks me that she likes to do this…lol.

And I’m basically all over those body washes 🙂
