Oscar Fashion Highlights!

by afrobella

Can I be honest? Bellas, I felt lucky to make it all the way through last night’s Academy Award ceremony. I’ve been making it a point to watch the Oscars all the way through ever since I was little, and last night’s ceremony was naptastic. Snoozeworthy. Boring to the extreme. At the end I found myself struggling to think of the highlights. All I could come up with was Kirk Douglas, the f-bomb that Melissa Leo dropped in her acceptance speech, and of course – the fashion. At least there were fabulous dresses galore to talk about! Here are my favorites:

OPRAH. OKAY?

From head to toe she was flawless and sparkling. This is the definition of full figured fabulous. I’m having THE hardest time tracking down the designer of her gown, if any of you know please fill me in!

Jennifer Hudson.

In particular I LOVED the color of her dress. JHud set off the tangerine Atelier Versace gown with purple shoes and diamonds everywhere you looked. Her elegant updo by stylist Kiyah Wright set off the look perfectly.

Halle Berry, Halle Berry.

The woman can do no wrong! Halle was flawless as always in beige Marchesa. Feminine and innocent, yet oh so sexy. And her makeup was by Revlon, of course.

Natalie Portman.

Natalie Portman went into Oscar night predicted to be a big winner, and she didn’t come away disappointed. She was glowing and gorgeous in plum Rodarte (or is that maroon? Discuss!), and the Tiffany tassel earrings she wore were PERFECTION. I want a pair of my own (and no, they don’t have to be by Tiffany!)

Mila Kunis.

Both of the Black Swan ladies showed up and showed out! Mila was goddess like in pale lavender Elie Saab haute couture. It was lacy and daring, but undeniably feminine. Her makeup was by Lancome, and artist Tracey Levy used the the Color Design 5 Pan Palette in Coral Crush to set off the lavender lace. Gorgeous!

Amy Adams.

She rocked in The Fighter and looked GORGEOUS in that glittering, midnight blue L’Wren Scott dress. And she rocked the trend of the evening, emerald jewels. Loved everything about her look.

Hailee Steinfeld.

I was rooting for Hailee from the minute I saw True Grit – she was SO great in that film! And I loved that her dress was youthful yet classic. She designed her OWN dress, which is even cooler! Custom made Marchesa looked GREAT on her.

What were your faves, bellas? Got any fashion inspiration from last night’s show? What were your favorite parts of the Oscars?

I would just like to see the shoes sometimes.

I never saw Jennifer Hudson’s purple shoes, now I want to see a picture! Her tangerine dress was fantastic. I loved Jennifer Hudson and Mila Kunis the best. I thought Hailee Steinfeld looked sweet, age-appropriate and very pretty. I hope this is the start to a great career for her. Did Halle Berry go back to her classic cut recently I thought she had been wearing a longer style recently.

Jennifer Hudson was stunning. I feel that after all that she’s been through. It is amazing the transformation that she has undergone. I love her she is my idol!

I loved Mila Kunis and Gywneth Paltrow. Two different extremes, dress wise, but equally fabulous. I alo liked Anne Hatahaway’s blue Armani Prive dress.

There’s a Chicago designer that makes fabulous tassel earrings. Check her out at ashleydrapes(dot)com.

I thought ALL the ladies looked fabulous!!! Especially Oprah, Jennifer, and Hallie. I love the color of Amy’s gown and Hailee looked so sweet and fresh. Everyone brought their A game…

According to JustJared.com, Oprah gown was by Zac Posen.

Hailee was adorable. She looked like an Oscar’s princess. Her dress was just right for her age. That’s nice to see because so many her girls her age try to dress older. I liked her the best and J-Hud. Orange is one of my favorite colors and she exemplified how vibrant it is on brown skin. Work it Ms. Hudson!

Oprah’s dress was, reportedly, designed by Zac Posen. (Don’t know him or her personally, so I can’t swear lol.) I’ve loved his asthetic from the very begining. Jennifer Hudson – I agree with you on the colour – it was amazing on her. But, I waver back and forth on the fit of the top. Also with you on Halle (flawless), Natalie (plus I really, really enjoy her as an actress), Mila and Hailee (I did not realise she had designed her own dress – as you wrote, youthful but classic says it all). I have to catch up on my Oscar film watching – there are quite a few I want to watch this year.

Last night I saw t.v. commercial for Target and they will be featuring Zac Posen designs (guessing that would be clothing).

If you are wondering where black folks and their work were at the Oscars you might be surprised to know what’s really going on. Those African American’s went to the ceremony made us proud. But maybe you want to know why more are struggling to participate.

Halle Berry’s dress looks so gorgeous. I didn’t watch the Oscar this year but I managed to catch up on the beautiful gowns worn that night.

JHud should have propped the girls up a little better. Everybody knows dramatic weight loss deflates ALL your lumps.
