Meagan Shea and the BECCA’s Lost Weekend Collection Launch

by afrobella

Hooray! It’s Meagan Shea! Afrobella’s contributing makeup artist is back to tell us all about her latest favorite makeup discovery. Are you bellas up on Becca yet? After Meagan’s event recap, I’m sure you’ll be wanting to try the brand as much as I do! Take it away, Meagan Shea!

Happy Summer Bellas! I hope you lovely ladies have been enjoying your summer thus far. I’ve been soaking up all of the rays the sun has offered and even gotten drenched in some of the rain the skies have sprinkled on down. All in all, it’s been a beautiful Summer. I’ve visited some beautiful places, got a serious tan and now that I’m finally settled back home for a while, it’s time to start looking out for some Fall beauty collections. After all, NYFW is coming up soon!

When I got my invite to the Becca Launch event for their early Fall Collection: The Lost Weekend, I was thoroughly excited. Remember I’d mentioned falling in love with the brand when I visited The Makeup Show in New York back in May. I was intrigued to see what their Fall Collection would be about, not to mention how the event would go.

Becca’s Lost Weekend Collection – soft, neutral, matte and sophisticated

When I arrived at Duane Reade on Wall Street, I was soaking wet as I got caught in the rain and it was HUMID AS THE DICKENS outside. I was very suprised at how posh the location was and learned that recently this location had a grand opening of their latest Look Boutique – NICE! As soon as I walked into the event and spoke to a few people I knew, I was quickly seated and told it was time for my manicure. I’ve never been the type of sista to keep my nails done or even polished much, so this was a real treat. After my manicure (which I ruined within 10 minutes of getting up from my seat), I got up and was whisked away to one of the makeover chairs. I’m usually not very open to letting other people touch my face – especially not to apply makeup, however I decided to let one of the artists fill in my (usually naked) eyebrows. The only reason I allowed her to do this was because her brows were PERFECT!!! I had SERIOUS brow envy, so I was sure she wouldn’t mess me up. She actually did a great job, they ended up looking just as mine do when I decide to take the time to fill them in. That for me was a good thing.

I let Christina do my brows because her brows were absolutely AMAZING!!!

Familiar faces: Carmen of Lipstick Fashion Mascara & Danielle of The Style and Beauty Doctor (natural hair was well represented in the building)

Finally, I got a chance to take a close look at the full Becca line. HEAVENLY, I must say! Their complexion collection made this brown girl’s heart go pitter pat. Becca has 30 colors of stick foundation & 34 colors of concealer – that means they have your shade! You beautiful brown lady! YES YOU!!! I can’t wait to try some of the different textures they have to offer.

Becca Cosmetics
I’m sure my face lit up like a child at Christmastime when I laid eyes on this complexion collection 🙂

Enough about my drooling over the complexion products & onto the Lost Weekend Collection. The collection is filled with neutrals, which is GREAT for Fall. I believe that Fall is a time when we wear such rich clothing, our makeup should be a little on the softer side. Sure you can throw a bold lip color and/or a strong eyeliner in the mix every so often, but a nice neutral matte palette always works. It will go with everything in your wardrobe! Becca offers some new mineral options with this collection in the way of blush (Sweet Pea & Wild Honey) and mineral powder foundation. I’ve never been a fan of mineral makeup – it’s just not my cup of tea. For you bellas who like it, I believe the deepest shade they have is for someone my complexion and honestly enough – it was a perfect match and did not become ashy (as most mineral powders tend to do on warmer complexions). The three shades for deeper complexions are: Ravish, Enchant and Cherish (my shade is Cherish). The blush was a little light for brown complexions, however I am a big fan of the Fig beach tint as a blush (more to tone down a really heavy blush – think NARS) and as a lip color.

Left to right: Fig Beach Tint (neutral mauve cream), Wild Honey Mineral Blush (light soft coral/tan) which blended in with the skin on my arm & Sweet Pea Mineral Blush (deeper coral/bronze)

Ultimately, I like the collection. It’s soft, matte, neutral and sophisticated. My favorite pieces are: Fig Beach Tint (as a lip color coupled with a soft, neutral brown lip liner), Lost Weekend Eyeshadow Palette (I absolutely LOVE IT), Nail Color in Saddle Up, Butter Balm and the Lip Plumping Moisture Gloss. I’m sure you’re wondering why I’d use a lip plumper when CLEARLY my lips do not need any plumping, right? This gloss kept it’s shine for 4 to 5 hours, actually hydrated my lips, did not give me that yucky white line on the inside of my lips and it smells LOVELY! You guys already know what I’m about to say… WINNING!!!

Enjoying my “Lost Weekend” 🙂

Product Suggestion: BECCA’s Lost Weekend Palette (eyeshadow) – $49
Product Suggestion: NARS’ Taj Majal (blush) – $27
Product Suggestion: BECCA’s Fig Beach Tint (over my blush & as my lip color) – $25
Product Suggestion: MAC’s Cork Lip Liner – $14
Product Suggestion: L’oreal’s Voluminous Million Lashes (mascara) – $8.99

SIDE NOTE: If you aren’t a fan of a super matte lip, but really want the color, just throw some gloss on top of your lip color and be SURE to always use a good hydrating lip balm underneath because your lips will be super dry!!!

So lovelies, I’m hoping you guys will try some pieces from this collection (if I had to say which to try it’d be the eyeshadow palette, beach tint & the lip plumper), I think you’ll love them as I do. As always, let me know if you end up trying anything new, and remember it’s okay to try something different – it’s just makeup, it’ll wash off! Stay beautiful & smile as often as you can! 🙂

Hi Meagan! First, your eyebrows are gorgeous! I’m kinda in awe of the Lip Plumping Moisture Gloss. It last 4 to 5 hours, white line and smells good. Sounds like a winner to me, and would be a nice addition to my lipgloss collection. Thanks for sharing.

    Be Your Best YOU!

Meagan! Last time I saw you was in December at Oyin and you were working on a hightop fade, what happened?! But of course you look lovely. I love love love NARS blushes (Orgasm and Deep Throat are my favorites) but I’m going to have to find Taj Mahal because it looks really pretty!

Well, I’m really happy to see a well rounded collection for dark skin. I don’t think these products are available where I am (Toronto) but I will be in New York at the end of September so if I have time I will try and check it out.

I want to revamp my entire makeup/wardrobe collection and I have NO CLUE where to start. Thank you for sharing this with us though, I can’t wait to see you in Toronto!

I liked Becca when I first tried it, their loose powder and concealer are pretty good. My problem with the line was that the foundation, the blushes and tints were oily, not a good match of my super oily skin. The diversity of shades is awesome though. It may work well of people with dry skin.

Alexis, I haven’t really gotten a chance to play with the textures of all the foundations (I think i mentioned this in the article), but I can see where that would be a concern for someone with oily skin. The beach tints were more of an creamy texture, however I will say they dry down to a SUPER matte finish. On my lips it became super dry.

If you have really oily skin, you should go for POWDER options – when it comes to textures & finishes. You’re on the right track if you’re using powder & concealer instead of a creamier foundation.

YES ANGEL!!! I got a manicure & the polish didn’t even chip for 6 days – it only began to chip because my hands were soaking in oil & water all day. LOVE IT!!!

The colors for this collection are really soft & neutral – Saddle Up is my fave!!!

    Saleema, I <3 your spirit!!!

Thank you for the eyebrow compliment! Chile, I don't do much to them, get them threaded & I keep it moving… LOL

As for that Lip Plumping Moisture Gloss – LOOOOOOOOVE IT!!! I wear it by itself and it keeps the shine, and my favorite benefit – NO WHITE LINE!!! I hate those, it's so gross looking…

I'll keep on being the best Meagan Shea' I can be! Thanks for the encouragement, sis!!! :O

    Greetings AJ!!!

They have a very Pretty Brown Lady friendly collection! I appreciate a brand with quality products for ALL consumers. It says a lot about the brand when they keep in mind that ALL women want to look beautiful & will spend their dollars to do so.

    :o)

Hmmmm, Toronto! I’d love to visit!!! I want to go to Caribana!!!

Ms. Mae! I did the hi-top fade & then went back to my old faithful in May. I’m not a hair girl, however – I am thinking of growing it out again… I miss my big ol’ afro… (pray for me, I usually make it to about a year and shave it off… LOL)

As for Taj Mahal, it’s GORGEOUS – especially on sistas! I will say it’s a REALLY REALLY REAAAAAALLY strongly pigmented blush, so a wee bit goes a LONG way. In the photo at the bottom I have Taj Mahal on with Fig Beach Tint (Becca) patted on over it. It softened the color beautifully. In the photo with myself & the other two ladies I have Taj Mahal on by itself.

And thanks for the compliment… Looking lovely is not easy work! LOL

I love Becca. I use the stick foundation and the powder. The colors are awesome and the finish is fantastic! My only words of advice about this line is if you live near a Becca retailer go in and get color tested. What I thought was my color online was a bit off. Fortunately, I was introduced to a shade that is so close to my complexion it is seamless. I’ve not found another brand that matched my complexion as closely. This brand is the truth.
