Guess who’s Bizzack

by afrobella

Oh, daylight savings time. How I despise you on the Monday morning after my vacation.

I’m back, but already overwhelmed with work to do and whatnot. But we had a wonderful, super fun, fleeting time in New York. We hit Times Square, Harlem, and yes – Chinatown. (Ha ha, Bygbaby! I had to do it)! We had the secret back-room purse experience and everything. Good times, good times.

Lots of new products to review, so look out for upcoming reviews of some top-of-the-line skin care stuff, a very moisturizing lip plumper, and the ever-infamous Dominican hair products. (Does ANYONE actually know which ones work and which ones don’t? Seeing Vaseline listed as the third ingredient on a jar of hair pomade doesn’t make me want to buy it at all).

And now I’m back and sifting through the 100 e mails I got. The two themes that are emerging from the comments on my previous post are, wonderfully sweet birthday wishes from you all (thank you!!!), and a giant “meh” for Joss Stone. Seriously, she needs some PR management stat. Quick, before this new album of hers performs as badly as it seems poised to do.
Just quickly to follow up on my last post — Joss Stone seems to have a lot of growing up to do. According to Perez Hilton, she’s now dating Raphael Saadiq. Huh? Spring must be in the air, cause I’m not sure how else to explain that.
The inside sleeve of her new album features a photo of them naked together, as a nice F.U to her last boyfriend. Le sigh.

I’m not going to get into the 20 year age difference because for some, age truly is nothing but a number. But this does strike me as a weird Svengali thing. Either way, I’m not really feeling it. This relationship puts her new song and video in an entirely new light for me. And it gives me a fresh perspective to one of my favorite Tony Toni Tone songs.

Although it seems like a strange mismatch, I have a lot of respect for Raphael Saadiq as a musician and a producer. Leavin’ is one of my favorite Tony Toni Tone jams. I wish this new couple all the best. Seems to me, the odds are stacked against them.

tony toni tone was the shit. and i loved lucy pearl, too. but um, joss stone and rapheal saadiq? hmmm, they seem kind of like an odd couple, but i guess i could see them together. even though it was only a few years ago, i know i’ve done some major growth since i was 19. the girl is finding herself now, and she just needs room to figure it all out.

WOW!! It’s all I can say! To each his own! Best of luck to both of them, if it is true!!

Uhm, i’m just call a duck a duck. Joss has always dated older men that were incontrol of her music and career. Just a coincidence? If this were anyone with a hue closer to our own would we be so mum about the behavior?

Now how many talented r&b/neo-soul sistas is out there & dude chooses to focus his producing talent & romantic attention on Joss Stone?! Who they overhype anyway as far as I’m concerned. Just another case of a Black man stepping over many better qualified sistas to get to a mediocre white chick. Not trying to be inflammatory, but I think a lotta sistas feel me on this…

I was shocked when I read this. I don’t know what to say, really, I’m speechless. I have to disagree with you and that age is just a number thing–it squarely depends on whether or not both participating parties are mature.

I have never been able to listen to Joss Stone. I can’t stand her music. She’s choppy and NEVER completely finishes a word. It’s really annoying. Anytime I hear her music it reminds me watching a sushi chef chopping up raw meat.

However, putting all bias aside, I just don’t get this relationship. For some reason I think that saadiq is the agressor in this relationship and she follows blindly. That whole nude thingy just bothers me…I know, i’m rambling, i’m just really speechless

First let me say that I like some of Joss Stone’s music. Second, Saadiq knows his dusty ass is too damn old for that girl.

When I think age ain’t nothing but a number, I think 21/>25. She can’t even drink legally.

They’re lookin like James Brown {RIP} & “wife” 2.0, in this pic. How very eerie.

“(Ha ha, Bygbaby! I had to do it)” I knew you would LOL. My wife drags me there every year when we visit & it tunrs out being amlost a whole day ducking in & out looking the best of the best (I know you know what I mean) After China Town, we hit Little Italy & and the evening in Soho & @ George Washington park. We are now planning our July trip now. Did you see the Color Purple?

I am not sure what sounds worse, Vaseline listed as an ingrediant or Joss Stone & Raphael Saadiq (a hot mess & I canont stand JS’s music)!!! But if they are happy that all that matters, my opinion certainly means nothing.

Sons of Soul was the bomb album way back when.

Don’t know what to say about this pairing. Considering that Joss lived with her last producer and dated his son, I’m just wondering where her parents are.

Oh, Bella. You’re so much better than citing that purposeless Perez Hilton.

ha ha! I know, Afrobello. I’m addicted to Perez. It’s a problem. I’ve tried so hard to wean myself off and I can’t. The funny thing is, I interviewed him and he’s actually a cool guy. But his site is like internet crack, I swear…

Bella…please consider a serious look at the hatefulness that is Perez. I have so many gay male friends who are being hurt by the likes of him. His attitude about *outing* those who are not coming out on their own is so wrong and him drawing white powder in the noses of people and calling celebrities underage children, ugly, fat and hopeless. I just can’t support that kind of career climbing evil.
On to Raph and Joss…my thoughts are his hot moment in the sun is over, he needs something to shine the spotlight on him he will drop her as soon as he realizes however mallable she is, she is just not that talented. I am never bothered by shady brothers dating outside….one less to trip over.

I remember “Perez” skulking around the halls of NYU, quite aloof and not on the good side of lookism. It seems the overcompensation is this vapid contribution to pop culture he’s up to now.

Have you tried the soap you got in Harlem? I love mine – the Tea Tree with orange. I want to try the other ones. Do you like them?

  18. Niki

Perez is internet crack for sure! I don’t really like him because he wants to be a celebrity himself (why else have pictures of folks proclaiming how much they love you on your own website) and he definitely plays favorites (he was mum on the whole Paris Hilton racist comment thing). I like Crunk & Disorderly because they are just downright funny. I have laughed out loud from some of the captions and comments (I especially like the “Would You Hit It?” section). Wow, I didn’t know the extent of the Joss Stone hate..I really never gave her much thought. I do have “The Soul Sessions”, but I didn’t buy anyting else of hers because the new songs really didn’t appeal to me. I think she has a decent voice, but she clearly needs to grow up. In a few years, she might.
