When It Rains, It Pours

by afrobella

I’m super busy today, so this will just be a teeny post to follow up on that last Worth a Click I posted. Another former Afrobella of the Week has dropped a new track! And it’s FIRE! Forgive me if I’m late to share this, but my girl Jilly from Philly just released Hate On Me, and I am loving her new direction and fierce message. Visit Toons N Tunes to listen and/or download.

The lyrics spoke to me so immediately, and I’m sure they’ll speak to you too — because we all know at least one miserable, unfortunate soul who is never happy with anything you try to do for them. “Go ‘head and hate on me, hater, I’m not afraid!”

We already knew Jill had that sass, and I love when she lets the hip hop diva inside her come all the way out. According to Okayplayer, she’s filming a video with Nzingha Stewart, who also filmed two of my favorite videos ever. Here’s hoping that Jill brings that neck rolling attitude I loved so much from her first video. Can’t wait for her new album!

Bella, I knew you would bring it! I love me some Jill Scott! To bad I missed her when she was in the Chi. 🙁

You can always count on Jill to bring it! I am still scratching my head at why “Beautifully Human” didn’t do as well as “Who Is Jill Scott” saleswise–that record was more focused IMO.

And I totally agree with likewow (who posted above): Jill and Bella could be play-cousins! LOL

Well, being a Jill Scott admirer (as well as E. Badu), when it’s good, it’s outstanding, and when it’s bad, it makes me weep. I am now shedding a tear for lack of originality. “Go ‘head and hate on me hater.” Uh, how many times have we heard this, over and over again? Is ANY critique hating? Thanks AfBe for sharing.

Lyrically she is always intense, which I love. The melody has to grow on me. I know my husband will extra happy (as he is already a happy guy) to know that she will be releasing an album soon. 😉

I’m glad Xtopher was the guinea pig first! I too think it’s overrated. It sounds like something an older artist would do to appease a young audience. The voice is great, though.

Xtopher and Afrobello, I totally see your point. In fact, Bossip called for a moratorium on the term “hater” just today, I think – and that cracked me up. But I’ve been singing that Jill Scott refrain all day, and I think it has to do with the bigness of her voice. It’s so rich and enormous. Love it. And I think she’s actively seeking a summer radio hit with this track. I hope she gets it!

Hey bella love your site.Very inspiring, uplifting. After reading about Jill Scott I was wondering if her hair is natural and if it is what products does she use?
