I’ve never written about The Wire before, but I feel compelled to say something brief now. It took me a long time to truly become obsessed with this show, but I’ve been watching these recent episodes in absolute awe.
Every episode I watch feels like heartbreak — these characters are so real, so complex, so brilliantly acted by a young cast of rough diamonds. Just, wow. Felicia Pearson, who plays Snoop, is a revelation.
I could go on and on, but all I’ve really got to say is this — if you’ve been resisting The Wire as I did for so long, give it another chance. It’s bleak, and there’s lots of characters to care about, but this is important, amazing television. I can’t wait for next week’s season finale. Cannot. Wait.
** a warning to those of you who may have missed recent episodes, you might not want to read these comments below. Unless you’re itching for a spoiler. Then by all means, click away.

I have been hooked on The Wire since the first season. This is a perfect example of what good tv should be. While eager to see next week’s episode, it’s mixed with sadness because there is only one remaining. Still hard to believe that such an incredible show is ending.
My husband and I have been dreading next Sunday! This show has been bringing it and even more so in these last few episodes. The casts is amazing and so is the writing & directing. What are we going to do on future Sunday nights??? Read more Afrobella, I suppose!!
PS: Love seeing the actors move off into some other gigs. LIke Law & Order, especially.
I love The Wire.Everything that this show is about is exactly how it was when I was growing up in Baltimore. The actors should all have an Emmy for the roles that they played ,because they did an outstanding job bringing these characters to life. The Wire will be truely be missed.
I love THE WIRE. Why is it that some truly great shows never survive? Why did THE WIRE constantly get overlooked by the industry? At least, HBO is giving us a REAL finale, unlike the network execs over at the CW. What they did to the ending of GIRLFRIENDS was truly sad.
Thank you for not spoiling any of the juicy details for me!!! I don’t have cable and I wait for them to come onto DVD and watch the whole season in one weekend.
This is off topic, but I am in need of help LOL
Hi,
I have a question. I just began using the Miss Jessie’s products. I am liking the result, but I am experiencing some flaking of the product. Am I using too much product?
Thanks.
D.
I love The Wire! I watched Snoop’s last episode online and it was so touching. I just, man, she is an excellent actor. That last exchange between her and Mike and Mike and his little brother was so real, it was amazing. I’m going home for spring break and I’m going to rent all of the seasons and watch season 5 on demand. I’m going on a Wire binge!
My husband and I have been hooked on the Wire since season 1 when Avon and his crew had things on lockdown. It saddens me that HBO and the rest of the industry does not see the show value-the storylines are always on point as is the acting. My HBO subsciption is up for grabs now.
Love The Wire. I have since the 1st season. Exceptional writing and acting. This is what TV can be when truly talented people are on board.
I agree with Wes, the season focusing on the children and the schools was very touching and eye-opening. Although I love them all, my favorite young character is Duquan (sp?) His story touched me so much…I often wept as his depiction was so dead on, so real. He along with the rest of the boys, especially the character Michael, I’m sure, will go on to do big things in the industry.
I almost don’t want to watch the finale because I don’t want to see anything to happen to my favorite characters. This season has been so much drama I don’t know if I’ll make it through the series finale without bursting into tears! My nerves are bad just thinking about it! LOL!
I am also a HUGE fan of The Wire! From the start w/ D’Angelo and Avon up until now… My favorite season was the last one where they focused on the children and the schools. I currently work in the fashion industry and this one season of The Wire made me consider teaching in an inner city school… I see so many of these lost, young black males on the trains, and in the streets being loud and disrespectful but due to The Wire, I’ve come to see that all of those actions are merely a facade. Our young black teens, are just that- teens. However, they are living a life filled with desparity… I really believe all they need is a chance… Just look at how Naymond turned out.
This has been my favourite season of THE WIRE and I have loved it since day one. I am soooo hoping my husband will get me the full five season box set which I know should be out by Christmas. What I love most though is the writing and the story telling. And being in the media, this season hits home for me as I have been in newsrooms and seen some fantastical, dman near perfect stories written, and being one of the few who go “this is too good to be true” but idiot managing editors are only too “caught up” to see. Plus the Metro Editor “Gus” is my husband! Everything he says and the way he acts and reacts are exactly the way my husband does and did things. KUDOS to THE WIRE!
And last night made me shed a tear. Michael really had to step up and be a ‘man’. And why am I left with the unshakeable feeling that his friend is gonna turn out to be Bubbles when he was on drugs!

I have been a die hard “The Wire” fan since the first episode and it truly saddens me to see that it is coming to an end. The encounter last night between Mike and Snoop was outstanding acting. OUTSTANDING. I wish that it didn’t have to come to an end, but for those of you that know The Wire, know that it wasn’t planned to go on past Season One and they have given us much more than that. I just hope that the plans are in the making for a movie.
I’m going to have to wait for the season on DVD. To me, the fact that MIchael K. Williams (Omar) hasn’t been recognized with an Emmy is a tragedy.
I am a Wire Junkie. I’ve been hooked since episode one. And after next Sunday’s episode, I just may be found wandering the streets barefoot in a red bra like Amy Winehouse. hhahahahahaa
I don’t wanna go to rehab/I said no, no, no!
I’m still processing last night’s episode. I can’t believe how emotionally invested I am in this show and the characters. I don’t know what I’m going to do when it’s over.
LOL.. that line was classic. how my hair look man? You look good girl! LOL
I’ve been a wire junkie from day one and having a season finale party weekend..
I have been watching the Wire since season 1 as well. It hurt me to see Snoop die. But man, she went out just like you would expect her to. Incredible! Next week’s ending will be bittersweet.
This is the first season that I have REALLY been into The Wire. I am upset with myself for holding out for so long but I WILL be getting the entire series on DVD. I agree with all of the comments posted thus far. *APPLAUSE* to HBO for continuing to bring groundbreaking entertainment.
“D” yes girl you are using to much of the product or the wrong product for your hair type. In a nut shell I’ve found that Miss Jessie’s works best on very clean soaking wet hair.
I usually wash (Deva Curl No Poo) and condition(Miss Jessie’s or Deva Curl) my hair then WITHOUT drying it I apply about 1/2 lid full of Curly pudding and finger comb. Then I just let it sit on my hair while I finish showering. This gives the curly pudding time to set my natural curl pattern.
I’m not sure how you wear your hair but I just finger twist my. Sometime I apply a little extra curly pudding or gel (by Root Stimulator) while I’m styling it. But if I find myself needing added moisture durng the styling process I usually just spray my hair with water.
Hit me back and let me know how which Miss Jessie’s you’re using and how you are styling your hair.
OMG!! JahGyal I felt the same way about Dukkie during the last episode, I was in tears because I thought he might be the next bubbles. He tried to be good, he tried to get a job, he used to go to school until they skipped him because of his age. But the preview for the final episode showed Mr. Prez, so I am hoping he helps Dukkie. I work in the school system in DC and I try to tell people and explain to people what these young people go through in the hood. And I am so happy that the Wire focused on the children last episode, because it’s all true. I have children who are responsible for their siblings, whose parents are on drugs, who want to be good and succeed but they are trapped, they are the “corner kids”. They learn the education of the streets because that’s where they are going to end up after school. I am really going to miss this show. It is sad that it took a while to get some attention, and Omar mos definitely should have won an Emmy by now. Even Marlo, a character I despised, had me in awe last episode with his acting. It’s real, no hugging and crying when Micheal and Bug seperate because that’s not how they really do things, that’s not how they say goodbye. I hope a movie evolves from this show… Sorry, I didn’t intend for my comment to be so long, but I LOVE this show. And I miss Randy and Bodee.
@Aisateric- I think when Prez sees him dukie has already started using. That is why prez says so this will be the last time I see you huh.
Anyone know of any Series Finale parties in Miami!?!?!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!! Im going to have some people over to watch it, anyone in DC/ MD can come over
i was in physical pain over what happened to dukie. that poor baby was never even given the CHANCE to escape his dire circumstances. i wish the teacher had taken him home or something, anything to stop him from going down that slippery slope. and omar dies and marlo not only gets to live, he walks with his money too? ugh. if mcnulty had a soul he would’ve gone all the way and given himself up instead of letting that piece of shit back on the streets. snoop dying was upsetting, but it was something i kind of expected, more than what happened to dukie.
I didn’t cry when Wallace, Stringer, Bodie, Sherrod or Omar died. But I cried my eyes out when Michael gave up Bug and Dukie. It hurt so bad. And now Dukie is lost. He was just a stray puppy, he never had a chance.
here’s my final farewell to The Wire. check it out at http://reallyrealtalk.blogspot.com/2008/03/wire-final-farewell.html

Hey there! I know this is somewhat off topic but I was wondering if you knew where I could locate a captcha plugin for my comment form? I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having trouble finding one? Thanks a lot!
