I’ve got some big news bellas! I’ve officially accepted an opportunity to be a part of the AOL Black Voices family. I’m going to be the new blogger for BV Hair Talk!
So what does this mean? It means I’m going to be a busy bella! I promise that Afrobella will continue as I’ve done for the past almost-three years — a celebration of natural hair and beauty, plus music, culture, travel, and whatever else is on my mind and in my heart. And BV Hair Talk will be entirely about hair.
Please understand, Afrobella will continue to be all about natural beauty for bellas all shades of beautiful! But on BV, I won’t just be focusing my attention on natural tresses — I’ll be expanding my focus to include info for bellas who choose to relax their hair, who rock weaves and wigs, who wear locs and sisterlocs, and who are just looking for the best products to keep their coifs healthy and strong. So bear that in mind.
Having announced this, I gotta ask — I know quite a few of you readers don’t wear a natural do, but because I write exclusively about natural hair over here, you may not comment often. I know, I know – I’ve gotten more than one e mail to that effect. So is there anything in particular you’d like to see addressed over at BV Hair Talk? Let me know in the comments, or drop me a line at afrobellaonaol@gmail.com, and I’ll see what I can do!
Wish me luck, bellas! I’m psyched about this new opportunity!

Congratulations. Remember media is media; you enter it where you can. Remember Susan Taylor she started in beauty editing and ended up the Editor in Charge. We know you love our natural hair; but one must be pragmatic and get their foot into the door. That said: conditioning and moisturizing is important no matter what the hair type. I also am interested in the hair industry and interviews with people of color on new techniques, products etc. I’m interested in new trends in haircoloring and in tips on finding the right hair do for your face structure and body size. I also think related to hair is the “hair” on other parts of our body including facial hair, eyebrows, lashes etc. I’m also interested in hair accessories, tips on wearing hats. I think there is a lot of crossover between the tools and hair care issues for all types of hair. And don’t forget the “curly girls” occasionally. I’m wishing you much success and I predict at some point this will branch over to “curlier” looks, either with their site or some others.

This is huge huge huge. I am so happy for you. Following you bliss always leads to great things.
-I shall take your lead. lol
You deserve every blessing you get.
June 17th, 2009 at 3:49 am
Congrats, Bella. Couldn’t think of anyone more deserving.
In a world and culture where faux beauty is celebrated & sometimes even encouraged, its refreshing to have a piece of the ‘net set aside for those of us who embrace & enjoy our natural hair textures. Your site was 1 of my inspirations when deciding to go natural.
And let me tell you: After relaxing & weaving for decades I can honestly say I get MORE love from ALL flavors of men with my natural hair than I EVER did before.
So, for that ALONE, I say: THANK YOU!
Congrats, again!

Woo Hoo! Congratulations. I admire your work and look forward to checking you out over at BV. More power to ya!
June 17th, 2009 at 7:51 am
Congratulations Bella! You deserve it!
I’d love to learn about hair treatments for people who ‘weave’ it up. It’s easy to neglect hair when it’s constantly in a weave.

Congrats!! I know you’re going to do well over there just like here.

Bella,
Congrats!!! I love your blog so I’m excited that I’ll have even more opportunity to “read your mind”. My suggestion is a bit of a rant, I have short relaxed pixie hair that I strive to keep really, really healthy. I use only natural, high end products because I care so much about my hair. I DC, co-wash, all the tricks that I’ve read about, however online all I can ever find is info about how to grow your hair long. What about us short haired girls, who love rocking the cropped doo? I have the hardest time finding sample styles for my next look, tips on changing up the styles, etc. So, my suggestion is on occasion that you talk about the latest in short looks, for us short haired bellas. Thanks in advance!!

How Amazing! let me join in the chorus in saying how incredible this is and how happy we all are for you. ive been reading your blog for the last 3 years (wow!) its one of the first first internet stops when i turn on my computer in the morning. you continue to be an inspiration to me on the natural hair front (many a time have i fwd’d your entries to nervous transitioners) and on the writing side –as an aspiring writer and artist myself, watching your blog progress and see you coming out with hit after hit for blog posts makes my hopeful for my artistic future. especially after you took the big chi-town plunge! Congrats again , bella. we are all rooting for you!
June 17th, 2009 at 10:44 am
Congrats, bella! I’d love to hear more about practical hairstyles for bellas who work out – the FOX news piece some weeks back only made me mad, and didn’t really provide any insight. Also, if could do another post about color, or maybe another drugstore-budget focus, that would be great!

Congrats, Bella! As one of the non-natural lurkers you mentioned (lol), I would love to see a piece on how to adjust one’s hair regimen for the seasons. It seems that as soon as I find out what my hair likes, the weather changes and I have to start over!
Keep up the good work, and I know you’ll bring all the insight, humor, and positivity from Afrobella to Black Voices.

Girl, that is such great news!! Big congrats to you.
June 17th, 2009 at 10:01 pm
Congratulations bella! This is excellent news. In terms of what I’d like to see at BV Hair, can you put up a few posts that deal with the business side of things, e.g., how black salon owners make it work, what to know if you’re thinking of going into the business, etc.
Whatever you decide to write, I’ll be checking for…Congrats again!
June 18th, 2009 at 11:30 am
Congratulations!! Wow, 2009 is really turning out to be your year! Your commitment to yourself is really inspiring and I thank you for sharing this journey with us. It’s ironic that your email account for your AOL blog is hosted by gmail- hilarious!

June 18th, 2009 at 1:22 pm
I wear my hair relaxed and I was wondering if you could address ways to protect/help your hair while working out? Like, what you can do to your hair after your done working out.
June 18th, 2009 at 2:32 pm
Congratulations! Good luck:) You knew things were changing for the bigger and better in your life!
June 18th, 2009 at 9:33 pm
Congrats on the new gig! Also, very belated congrats on moving to Chicago! If I run into you on the street I’ll say hi. Don’t forget to get a Chicago-worthy winter coat.
One topic I’d love you to address is the fallacy that natural hair can’t be worn in the workplace. This is something that needs to be debunked once and for all. I’m really sick of black folks giving up their power so easily when it comes to this subject, esp. in 2009.
June 19th, 2009 at 4:34 am
congrats! looking forward to reading all your contributions!
