Solange Knowles – You Already Know

by afrobella

“Solange”

Well, well, well. It seems after all the back and forth and hubbub has died down, Solange is working the TWA like nobody’s business. Do I even need to add my opinion here?

No, but I will.

She looks gorgeous. Stunning. It reveals her features to exquisite effect. I love, love, love it.

Will this silence the legion of critics who had so many things to say on her last venture out with super short hair? Will this be the beginning of a trend? I don’t know, but I hope so. And so do my imaginary friends at Oh No They Didn’t, which posted the following:

“I love it how Black women across America are starting to embrace their inner roots and loving themselves for who and what they are. There is nothing ugly about Black hair and the sooner that self-hatred evaporates the better for the community as a whole.”

Well, hey! I’ve been tooting this horn for years now — and so have SO many of you. It warms my heart to see more and more women feeling the same way.

I know Solange doesn’t “need our cosign” but I’m cosigning anyway. Keep on doing you, Sol-Angel! You’re making this afrobella very proud.

I love her new look! There was so much uproar about it. As if, she is somehow wrong for embracing her true self. I am so glad that she did this. Maybe more will follow. 🙂

I wonder if hair will always be an issue?

I love the look. The cut truly reveals her features and how gorgeous she is. For me, I never really saw that before. I always just thought of her as a sister clone. Hopefully, this will allow her to fully spread her wings and exhibit her individuality.

And maybe, just maybe, this will allow other black women to go natural, or short, or whatever THEY want to do.

Afrobella, you hit it on the head (no pun intended, or maybe it was). I digress. I think this will silence the critics & may be a trending possibility. I totally love the look. It’s classy, sophisicated, cool, hip…heck it’s whatever you want it to be! A beautiful specimen…!

I wouldn’t be surprised if it trends. If it weren’t for the fact that I am considering growing out dreads, I would so join the bandwagon. I think Solange has found her unique style that suits her excellently

She looks fab. I loathe her sister, in part because I think she’s encouraged all this horrible weave business. I might buy one of Solange’s albums purely out of support for her new ‘do.

short hair really makes her feautures stand out. she definitely has the face to carry off this look. her curls look gorgeous too.

This whole look (makeup and hair) is beautiful and a nice change from the looks women have been sporting for what seems the last decade…It just seems to me, that in the quest to always have the deep smoky eye and straight, sleek, flat ironed hair, women have forgotten that a pretty lipstick and a short curly style can look so sweet. This look is very soft and feminine and hope that more women start to embrace the elegance sheer beauty of such a look.

I think she looks beautiful! There is way too much fuss about black hair, whichever way you choose to wear it; natural, weaved, relaxed, it’s a personal choice. Solange twittered that she just wanted to be free and then wore a wig to an event later the same day. I think she looks beautiful no matter how she wears her hair!

It’s amazing how this haircut is so flattering on Solange, I never paid attention to her before. She looks a lot like my beautiful oldest sister who wore her hair like this in the late seventies.

Absolutely beautiful! Let’s hope this sparks an attitude shift, not a short-term trend.

It is beautiful and she has the beautiful face and lovely makeup to compliment it. She looks confident. I’m not sure what happened with her other hair cut; but this looks good. The key is the right stylist, especially with hair this short.

First, anyone who is HATING on her new look should get a life. LOL!

Solanges new look emphasizes her beautiful african features. Smooth brown skin, beautifully deep eyes, and warm full lips. My wife cut her hair this short and all it did was enhance the beautiful features she has as well!

Go SOLANGE! Show these people how beautiful black really is!

  19. NaturalGloLady

    Absolutely fresh, beautiful and organic.

Wow, look at her eyes and her lips! I’m not generally a fan of short hair, but some people like Solange wear it gorgeously.

I love it…this hair Do really shows how beautiful Solange’s face really is. I commend her for taking the leap and I am so sure that this will encourage loads of people to cut their hair off or at least let go of the relaxers. I can’t wait to see what impact Solange makes with her new do.

  22. nyc/caribbean ragazza

    at

Wow….this cut really shows off her features. I had no idea she was so striking.

Maybe her sister will do it? I don’t think her contract with L’Oreal will allow it.

As soon as I saw these photos the other day, I had one thought: she looks absolutely beautiful.

She’s totally adorable in her TWA. Rock it out Solange!

  25. LD in PDX

I have to say I loved rocking the TWA back in the day…and will make a trip back there should I decide to part with my locs. She was before, and continues to be, beautiful.

I love her hair. It truly does look gorgeous on her. Her personality still sucks though.

OMG!!! She has the most perfectly shaped HEAD!!!!

    Awesome!

  28. paradisebird

She looks awesome, so fresh and elegant…it really brings out her face very well. It has a classic touch to me, like the older pictures of Aretha Franklin or Leontyne Price and also Audrey Hepburn,or in these days, the Uber-fabulous Alek Wek and so many beautiful afrobellas i see outside in my everyday life.
The Afro derseves its place in the hall of fame of the ten most classic hairstyles imho. We can so rock the short hair….amazing…She makes me thinking of cutting my curls off….love this look!

  29. BK

this photo is much more flattering than the other one.. I LOVE it. This fits her face and definitely draws attention to her beautiful eyes!

I like her look here and also when she was with her bald head too. Glad she’s getting love.

  34. Vonmiwi

    at

It’s not a trend, it’s what’s happening now. I saw so many women at this years Essence Music Festival with so many beautiful natural hair styles and I thought that this was beautiful to finally see women celebrate exactly who they really are. Beautiful.
So many women are now coming into their own and they are not letting European standards define who they are anymore. She looks beautiful!

  35. MoZaic

    at

I like it on her she looks very pretty

  36. Kelley

    at

I think the whole look is spectacular. I hope this is a trend that continues. I’m natural and I love it. And I have noticed that recently I have been getting a lot of positive feedback about my hair from black people, and that doesn’t usually happen. I get a lot of permed sisters calling me “brave” and I just tell them there’s nothing brave about wearing the hair God gave you.

I hope that Solange can have the kind of influence her sister has on hair. I am not a fan of Beyonce. I think she represents something so negative. The long blonde wigs she’s never without and her oversexed Jezebel negress stage persona is damaging, IMHO.

  37. Kelly

    at

Just beautiful. I always thought she was a pretty girl, but that Beyonce outshined her. This cut allows us to see how absolutley stunning she really is. Wow!

  38. Ally

    at

Wow, she’s really pretty! I really never noticed before. I think she made a great choice.

  39. sandy

    at

I luv it. But just curious if anyone thinks there are some people who can’t rock this hairdo and if so what do you think detracts from wearing this style. Also want to know what makes a short hairdo look less feminine on some ladies. Is it the cut or shape of the head which has the most influence?

  40. designdiva

    at

I think she looks great. The short cut looks more flattering on her. Before I went natural, I started noticing that sisters who were rocking the fros and locs looked more beautiful and unique…IMO.

I love my hair! Still trying to figure it out but I LOVE my naps

  41. Kasey

    at

Surprisingly I think she looks better without hair. It’s grown a smidge this is a perfect length and the part …..FIIIIIIERRCE. Her features pop!

  42. Jenene

    at

Keep it real, this do is a lot better than how she originally debuted it. Solo got herself lined up, even put in a part now. I wasn’t hating on the short hair, but it looked raggedy as all get out. One time for the trip to the barber!

Yes there are some people that this cut wouldn’t look right on. Just like there are folks that don’t look right with very long hair, or curly hair, or pin straight hair. Some people have funny shaped heads. Every look ain’t for everybody.

  43. Kat

    at

I think she looks exquisite. I agree with all the posts…it makes her eyes stand out and her lips are rockin that pink.

Very feminine, which might be a surprise for people who’s auto-response is that short = butch or militant.

Not to be a cynic, but let’s be real here…should we have a Solange-watch going for how long she keeps this look? Should we count the number of days?

I’d love to see how long she goes with a natural cut…will she grow it out? How long before she does a curly weave? I dunno. Maybe I should just stay in the present and give her the benefit of the doubt. :o) Go girl!

  44. Satya

    at

She has such beautiful features that I totally missed with all of that hair in her face! I love the cut; she rocks it well.

  45. dee

    at

Kat- I’m thinking her being in the industry means she’ll eventually use weaves and wigs to alter her look, just because women cannot stagnate their looks in this business. I cannot see her rocking the same cut months from now. Maybe she should color it a month or so from now…give it a different look.

  46. Byrdie454

    at

I loved her hair when she did the BIG CHOP originally!! I have had a natural fro when it wasn’t cool to have one and still wear it proudly to this day. I think the difference for Solange this go around is that she’s got her look together from the head to the face. Esp. with this close clipped ‘do you got to come hard or not at all.

  47. locely

    at

she looks royal! to be honest, she looks like a tranny/monkey with her long weave. i can see her face now which is actually pretty.

  48. mo_angel

Her beauty has intensified. What a suiting look!!

  49. Sarah

Bravo Solange! She looks amazing – her eyes look huge and you can really see how pretty she i.

I just wish people hadn’t said such mean stuff about her new do. Unecessary.

@ 7 Nneoma, not dreads, LOSCS!

I like Solange ‘s hair. I wonder if she cut it bc her hair was damaged from wigs / weave
(she’s been wearing them back when wigs were GLUED ON! …NOW we have lacefront but b4 we didnt) .

I wish I was bold enough. I did shave the back of my head in 99 due 2 severe damage & breakakge, but Wasnt bold enuf 2 shave my whole head. Now the back of head hair is growing nice & even but the rest of my head is messed up.

After hearing Solange sing The Thrill Is Gone on a BB King special and I don’t even care for blues music that girl rocked it!!!!! and this new look she is sporting … Solange forget about R&b and pop music you are jazz legend in the makings.

Solange looks absolutely gorgeous!!! Does she know she got fans? I hope she does ’cause I’m definitely a fan!!!! especially with her new hair do. I’m going to my stylist next week and have her cut my hair exactly the same way. Thank you!
