Mother’s Day Giveaway–Shea Radiance

by afrobella

This Sunday – May 13, in case you haven’t checked a calendar about it – is Mother’s Day! Now’s the time to order those flowers and put together those gift baskets, if you haven’t already. And for the moms who read Afrobella.com – I’ve got special Mother’s Day goodness for you through the rest of the week! Some of my FAVORITE brands have offered Mother’s Day giveaways, and I handpicked only the best for you!

I’ve already rhapsodized about the goodness of Shea Radiance, let me tell you again why I love this brand. It works brilliantly on my hair and skin, and it’s 100% made with love. If you’re a lover of natural, vegan, fair trade beauty products, you’ll want to learn more about Shea Radiance. Founded in 2005 by husband and wife team Shola and Funlayo Alabi, their hair and skincare products are of tremendous quality and directly benefit communities in Africa that have partnered with them.  These are some of the women that work to create these shea products – and Funlayo herself is wearing the blue and white patterned outfit in the row of standing women.

Women (1)

I’ve been lucky enough to try out Shea Radiance’s hair products – all are made with unrefined shea butter, so using the complete product line from shampoo on through to styling product means your hair is intensely moisturized. My favorites of their hair products? I love the Moisturizing Hair Milk – it’s a light spray for kinky, curly, wavy hair and it’s made with water, aloe vera juice, shea butter, avocado seed oil, castor seed oil, and hemp seed oil. My hair drinks this stuff up and LOVES it. The Nourishing Hair Repair Cream is formulated for kinky curly hair that needs a heavier product – it’s great for braiding or twisting the hair but isn’t a super heavy product that has a ton of hold.

SpaSampler_72DPI

Shea Radiance’s skincare products are also awesome – thus far I’ve tried the Deluxe Spa Sampler which includes their Ivory Seed Sugar Scrub, Whipped Shea Butter with Kalahari Melon seed Oil, and the Shea and Baobab Antioxidant Cream which is light and fabulous for your face or specially beloved body parts. Of all their skin care products I have to say, a little goes a long way. Also if you’re seeking highly fragranced items, these aren’t what you might be seeking, they are earthy and clean smelling, but not all Shea Radiance products are infused with artificial fragrances or lathering agents. These are natural products for natural beauties! And FIVE lucky bellas could win a set of Shea Radiance goodies – including their hair products and the Deluxe Spa Sampler — in this special Mother’s Day giveaway!

How do you enter, how do you win?

Leave a comment below telling me why you think you or your mom will LOVE these products, and the contest will remain open until Mother’s Day, Sunday May 13 2012. Winners will be announced the week of May 14.

This contest is open to entries in the U.S.A, from readers over age 18.

Winners will be notified via e-mail, and they’ll have 48 hours to respond with their name, address and phone number — if a winner fails to respond in time, an alternative winner may be selected.

You can like Shea Radiance on Facebook, or follow them on Twitter! Good luck, mamas!

Mama Cheeks and I would love to try out Shea Radiance because we’re actually doing our natural journey together! I went natural several months before her but I’d like to think I inspired her new ‘do. She’s rocking a BAWSE TWA and we trade product ideas all the time. So to be able to try out this new line would be a great bonding experience for us!

Great opportunity, Afrobella, thanks for doing this!

My mom has worn a short natural for some time now and I also recently went natural. We are always in search of products that will make our hair soft, shiny and healthy looking. We would love to try your new products together and compare notes on what works best for us!

She will love these because she has never used hair care products with natural ingredients …I’m trying to make her see the light! lol

My mama and I would love to try these products. I have had natural hair my entire adult life, and my mom has always been like “why don’t you relax your hair? it will be beautiful once you relax it”. My mom has Alzheimer’s and this year we had to put her in a nursing home. To make her grooming easier, and chemical free, I cut her hair into a TWA. To our surprise, she loves it! I would love to win this set because it seems very gentle, and safe. It would be great to include these products in our Sunday funday pamper sessions. They will help my sister and I continue to create moments of joy for our mother. Thank you for hosting this giveaway.

My mother recently decided to go natural; basically meaning no perms and the use of only organic products. From what she’s told me she’s finding it hard to find products that fit her needs and wants. Shea radiance seems like the perfect fit for her.

As a mom, I felt it was best to teach my daughter that her hair is beautiful and God gave her that hair for a reason. Unlike myself growing up, I was introduced to Jheri Curls and relaxers so I didn’t have anyone as knowledgeable to maintain natural locks. I’d be excited to win these products as another aid to my natural hair journey…which I graciously share with my daughter. Since going natural, I’ve received more compliments now then when I was relaxed. As for my daughter, her hair is much longer than her relaxed friends and they are jealous of her vivacious styles! Happy Mother’s Day!!!

It’s been ages since I’ve really been able to afford a great gift set for my Mom (I mean great, rather than those two item gift “sets” you find on those drugstore shelves that have been rummaged through) And we were just talking about the need for some Shea butter. This would suit her just fine and I know she’d share with me (whether I want her to or not), so I’d get to sample some. Upon your word, I’d definitely gives this a try.

im not in america but my mom sure is and i’d love for her to try these products as she made the big chop only a couple weeks after i did 3 months ago and we’re both on this natural journey together! she however has been on this journey many times so i’m hoping this time will stick with great products and a good regimen! 🙂

I’d love to try this because I haven’t found just the right products yet for my curly hair; these seem like they would moisturize without making my hair greasy or heavy.

I did an interview with my namesake Mrs. Alabi and love what she is doing with the company. I haven’t had a chance to try the hair products and I would love to try them and share them with my mom who is natural (after much prompting from me, I’ve been natural since I was 14). Thanks for the opportunity. Also I must say, Eve, your story is so beautifully heartfelt. Blessings to you, your mom and your sister.

My mom, a geriatric nurse, deserves this because she has supported and nurtured our family for years and rarely receives the thanks she deserves. Last year I had major surgery and my mom spent every night by my side in the hospital, only going home to shower and change clothes. She went natural years before me and I’m always trying to hip her to new stuff to try. I would love to gift her with this basket.

My mom’s hair can get very dry, and I think these products would really help. I know her hair would look so great if she used these products.

I live here, however my mum lives in Nigeria and has been natural for quite some time. She sports a TWA and it looks so good on her. However she does not use alot of products on her hair and I would love for her to win the Shea Radiance goodies so that she can try it on her hair. I use Shea Radiance and they are wonderful on my hair. My mom is coming in a few months to visit and this would be a great gift to give to her as soon as she arrives.

My mom has always been my natural hair inspiration. She started growing her fro in the 60s and has maintained versions of it every since. I followed her lead when I went to college, chopping off my relaxed hair and starting my own natural hair journey. Six years later, I have locs, my mom still rocks her ‘fro, and more and more women in our family are discovering their natural textures. (My grandmother, who is delightfully old-school, always looks at my hair with some suspicion. “You’re just like your momma,” she told me when I first cut my hair. You are so right about that, grandma!)

Now that my mother is getting older, she has noticed that her hair has become drier. I myself am trying to figure out what exactly my locs need to be their healthiest. Hopefully Shea Radiance can be the answer for us both!

P.S. I can just imagine what my father says when he sees the brand was started by Nigerians — “Alriiiiight! My countrymen!”. (Don’t worry, we will share Shea Radiance with him and his clean-shaven head).

My mom NEEDS some Shea Radiance in her life. She isn’t a woman who is overly concerned with her appearance, and since she moved away ( I live in. Michigan, she lives in Florida) she has been complaining of dry hair. I’m not there to take care of it anymore! Ugh, maybe if I gifted these to her, she may find it easier and even satisfying to take care if her hair 🙂

  21. RaJeanna

My mom is the proud (for the most part) mother of 4 girls, all with hair so thick it would make any sane woman turn gratefully to relaxers. But my mom put in the work and for 10+ years, on every Easter, and every prom, and every special occasion where we wanted the wind to blow through our hair, she got up at the crack of dawn and helped us straighten it. Now that we’re all older, and our hair care is in our own hands, I think my mom is just burned out! Why just the other day I caught her shampooing with a sulfate shampoo (I know, hold your tears if you can.) My mom is a beautiful woman, with gorgeous natural hair, and while I can’t speak to the other mom’s out there, I want these products for her not just because she needs them (though Lord knows she does!) but to show her in some small way that I’m honored she’s my mom.

my mum would just love this giveaway shes always trying different shampoos trying to find one she likes. She has short wiry hair and so shes always trying to find something that makes it soft and shiny

My mother would love these products because she is constantly looking for something that will moisturize but will not weight her fine strands down.

My mom would love these products, she has been natural for over 15yrs and have experimented with many products that have over the years damaged and took her hair out. Now she is on a hunt to find and try more products that can change the damage that was done to her hair.

My mother would love these products because we are both happily natural. she is a breast cancer survivor of 3 years and for as long as i can remember she has been a natural. and ever since her treatments of chemo it has been hard for her to find products that are good for her hair. i recently just became a natural again and am struggling to find products that will help my curly hair stay moisturize without weighing it down.

My mom and I would absolutely love these products because I am currently reaching my 4 year natural anniversary and my mom is newly natural. She is becoming discouraged because she thinks its difficult to maintain her hair, and she says she cannot find anything that works for her hair. I think this would be a nice,guilt-free way for her to experience something different and maybe stick to it.
And I would just love to try some new products!!!

My mom and I would love these!!! My mom would love the moisturizer.. and I would like to try the spa sampler. I love earthy scents.

My mother would love these products. I have been on my natural hair care journey for almost 2 years now. Because of my journey she has been paying better attention to her hair. She had a recent set back where she lost a lot of hair at the crown of her head. We are working hard to nurse her hair back to health and she knows now more than even how important it is to use the right products. I think these products would be exactly what she needs.

My mom is from Cameroon so this product in particular will defintely hit home for her. Back in Cameroon, they cut all you rhair off when you are younger so that you don’t have to fuss with taking care of your hair. It has been a long journey with us both learning on how to care for our hair.

My mother would definitely benefit from trying some Shea Radiance products! Even though she has been working at it for 4 months since her BC, she says she’s struggling with it due to excessive breakage, dryness, and alopecia from wearing weaves. I’ve been somewhat guiding her through her transition while I’ve been abroad, but this would be a great for her and maybe help some of her hair frustration. I don’t want her to give up on staying natural, so I hope with more time/experience and better products, she’ll grow to love her hair more!!

Thanks for the chance to win!

    Hey Afrobella,

I think that my Mom would definitely love these products. My Mom is such a hard worker and spends most of her time doing for others. She is VERY active in her church and visits the hospitals and nursing homes weekly to care for others. Not only does she do those things but she finds time each morning to speak to my son and her other 4 grandchildren before school each day. She’s done so much for me and so many others, so I feel that she is in need of some pampering.

    Thanks

My mother would absolutely loves these products because she just recently came home from a week in the hospital for kidney failure and was put onto dialysis (she had other complications as well). She has been depressed about it all and isn’t eating well. I would love to pamper her and uplift her spirits with these great products. She’s a great mom and it pains me to see her this way. She loves getting nice things, so hopefully this gift basket will put a smile on her face. Thanks for the chance!

I think I would love these products from Shea Radiance. As the mother of a very active 3 year old boy, the only me time I get is when styling my natural, kinky hair and taking care of my skin. I am a “sucka” for natural, vegan beauty products; you know, the kind where you can actually read the ingredients list. Shea Radiance seems to foot the bill perfectly. If I win this contest, I couldn’t wait to try the products!

I have sensitive skin and an even more sensitive scalp. I’m in the process of going natural and I’ve found that my hair craves moisture like a sponge. I would love these products because not only would they give my hair the moisture it craves but also because it’s all natural. I’ve been on the lookout for natural products that don’t contain those oh so many unpronounceable chemicals that would irritate my skin. I haven’t been able to afford some of the better hair-care products and my skin has been paying the price.

These products so need to be mines! 🙂 This is my very first Mothers Day. I am a proud mother to a 4 month old baby boy. I’ve been a curly diva for about 3 years in total now. I just had my 2nd big chop in January due to heat damage. I’m learning to care for my hair better, and I am in desperate need of hair products. Plus, I love shea butter anything. Please help a mom/college student out. Sending much love!

My mother would love the Shea Radiance products, she went natural just a few years ago. It also will surprise her and cheer her up even more to win, since she unfortunately fracture her left foot a few weeks ago. Thanks for the opportunity to win these products for my mother.

I love Shea radiance products and I would love to win this for my Mother because I am very sure that she would love them too. She recently had moved to a different place and she has been complaining about how that new place had effected her hair. She was telling me that her hair had become so dry and brittle.I hope I could win this set for her and give her the best gift, She WILL LOVE IT FOR SURE!!

    Thanks!

I would love to have the chance to try our these products. I am currently on my natural journey and also teaching my young daughter to embrace and love her natural hair. I had never realized how empowering this could feel, but it is not just a fad… It is about acceptance and inner love! My daughter and I love trying out new, great products.

My mom would love these hair products, because not only is she natural, but she is a natural hairstylist! I know it gets hard for her at times to get all the hair products she needs being a single mother, but she makes it work. I know having all of these will definitely help her out for a bit. She would love these products.

I would love to win these for my 85 year old grandmother. She is enjoying seeing me on my natural lifestyle journey. She has a lovely full mane of silver that goes down her back. I would love to introduce her to some natural hair products. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!!!

I would love for my mom to try these products. I have only been natural three months and have been successful so far but my mother who has recently gone natural is having problems finding quality products that work for her. I would love for her to give these a try.

My mother has always been natural & has been making her own hair products for the last few years. When I tell her about products I am trying she just laughs & tells me its not as good as her shea butter mixture. It would be great to introduce her to a product that has her beloved shea butter so she can take a break, lol. I have always been proud of my mother’s mane & it would be an honor to help her care for it with these products that are made with as much love as she puts into her own.

  45. Onika Moore

I would give this to my mother because she is always influencing her children to eat healthier and to use products that aren’t made in a science lab. She believes there is a natural cure for everything right in this Earth. This would be good for her to enjoy, because its exactly what she stands for!

  46. Mish

My mom is a recent convert from the grasp of relaxers, I would love to show her there are tons of products that can still make her look and feel beautiful, and what better way than a product labeled “100% made with love”. I would also feel like a responsible global citizen doing my part to support women and their productivity knowing that this is a fair trade product. And if that isnt enough, my skin and hair would love these natural ingredients!!!!

My mom and I would love these products because we are both natural, me longer than my mom, and sometime she gets a little discouraged on her natural journey and I think that she could benefit from a product line that is made by natural women in Mother Africa. These product will help to magnify the beautiful woman that my mom is by giving her more confidence in her hair and skin. THey will also bring to your outward appearance what already shines bright within her, what we see in her everyday. Beauty.

I have been watching this product for a while and have seen a few positive reviews about it. I have wanted to try it for just as long as I have been seeing it. And on top of everything else they contain Shea Butter which seems to agree with my hair very well.

I would love to share this prize with my mom! I just recently did a BC and cut off my over 15 year old locs. I’m getting to know my loose natural hair again and am on the search for my holy grail products. I would love to try Shea Radiance. I’d also love to share these products with my mom who is not currently natural, but I want to show her what’s new in hair care and maybe persuade her to start incorporating more beneficial products to her routine.

i have very dry 4a/b hair that is in search of HOLY GRAIL products that will allow the wash and go with minimal crunch. Since going natural I think that my hair has gotten drier if that is even possible, and the things that used to work no longer do the trick i would love to try the SHEA RADIANCE!!! I think what caught my eye was the all natural aspect and the fact that it is a product whose sales directly benefit the communities in Africa that partner with it, alot of my products are purchased with giving back in mind!!!
so with that said, giving back is a great incentive with beautiful curls as a plus, and if bella says its a good one then it must be!!!!

I’ve looked up to my mom ever since i was a youngling she has been my role model, my caregiver, my therapist, my best friend and evidently my enemy. But she was also very aware of my health and she always stressed to me since i was little to moisturize my body as much as possible since my mother has Lichen Amyloidosis and her skin demands moisturization. Her skin prevents her from swimming in pools as well as oceans since chlorine and sea water reacts to her skin and she also has a hard time sleeping at night since she is constantly itching. She loves Shea butter and she would love something like this to help with her skin problem 🙂

It was a year and a half ago when I showed my Mom a article about women who use relaxers are more likely to develop uterine fibroid’s. blackdoctor.org/2582/new-study-links-relaxers-to-fibroids-2/. That’s when we decided to go natural together. My Mom has other health problems so it wasn’t hard to convince her that maybe she should avoid using something that has been studied and shown to cause 2 out of 3 women to grow fibroid’s. The last time I seen my moms hair out of her usual protective style of braids it was broken off and looked dry and brittle. She hasn’t really stepped away from using Blue Magic and was very shocked to see me spraying my hair with water be fore i styled it. She needs to step away from the old “trusty” Blue Magic and in to something so much better for her hair. And I think this is for her. Thank you.
