You never forget your first, am I right?
I’ve told the story a million times – when I was little, I “worked” at a busy perfume and cosmetics store in the mall in Trinidad, over Christmas. Of course being just a kid, there was only so much actual work I could really do. I remember spending a lot of time reorganizing the lipstick testers. I remember spending a lot of time testing lipstick out on my arm and deciding which were the best colors. I remember deciding Ice Pink wasn’t cute on me even back then. And I remember falling in love with a color named Copper Rosa. Eventually I bought it, and it was my very first lipstick. I wrote an homage to my first lipstick in 2011 – click here to read my Makeup Memories post. On my last visit home, my aunty Gemma gave me a brand new tube of Copper Rosa! It was so great to be reunited with my first lipstick love. And PS – you can click here to buy Copper Rosa yourself via Sacha Cosmetics’ website.
From Copper Rosa by Trinidad’s own Sacha Cosmetics, I moved on to other shades, other formulations, other brands. I fell in love with MAC, with Lancôme, with NARS, with even fancier brands like Chanel and YSL and Dior. I fell for drugstore lipsticks by brands like Cover Girl, Maybelline, Black Opal and Milani. I found new favorites. I’ve got quite the collection.
This beautiful video by my friend Chescaleigh inspired me to consider my own lipstick story.
Isn’t that gorgeous? It took her 2 days to shoot and edit it – she’s so amazing with YouTube as a medium and uses her channel so incredibly well. <3
I’d always loved the shape of my lips but the color of my lips steers towards the color of my dad’s – like purple-red table grapes. So I’ve long been on a quest to find the perfect, deeply pigmented lipstick to mask what I perceived as a flaw.
I’m very picky when it comes to choosing a lip color. It can’t be too faint and it has to stand up to my endurance – I don’t need a lipstick I have to constantly reapply to make a difference. I need a lipstick that’s got pigment that lasts. It needs to be rich, vibrant, long-lasting and unique. Inspired by Chescaleigh’s, here are seven of my favorite lipsticks for fall, in no particular order.
L’Oreal Colour Riche in Mystic Kiss
MAC Mineralize Rich in Lush Life
Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids in Brazen Berry
Black Opal Lipstick in Heat Wave
Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Bang
What was your first lipstick? What colors are you looking forward to rocking for fall?
