Spring Coat Fever — My Top Plus Size Picks

by afrobella

Reportedly it’s spring in Chicago and on some days, it even feels like it! Not at the beginning of this week, however. We kicked off this week with a dusting of snow, much to my surprise! By Thursday we sailed up to 70 degrees — sunny and bright, but still windy and a bit chilly. How do you dress for this time of year when things change so much from day to day and you can experience a 40 degree swing in temperature from one day to the next? Layers. Lots of layers.

Fall/Spring layers are pretty much my favorite, because it’s less about function and more about fashion. This is the time of year when I love wearing a bold, bright coat. Something lighter than the typical winter puffer or pea coat, something more vibrant than the sort of thing I would have reached for in December or January. I’ve been eagerly waiting the perfect weather to rock this Car Pool Coat from City Chic!

It’s described as gold and black but to me it’s more of a mustard/saffron and black. It’s a high impact coat with a light to medium weight — on a chilly day, I’d recommend rocking it over a sweater or heavy cardigan.

As you can see, I tried it out under windy conditions!

Here are the full details on this look so you can click to buy —

For a perfect spring coat, I look for lighter fabrics and bold colors and prints. It rains a lot in spring, so waterproof fabrics are a plus. I also love a truly classic piece I know I’ll get a LOT of wear out of. Here are five of my top plus size picks, based on what’s in my closet and what I’m literally wearing as I face Chicago’s vacillating weather.  Click to check them out and shop!

The Olivia Trench by Premme — such a fun pop of color with a classic coat!

Lark and Ro Utility Jacket — you know I’m here for a leopard lining!

My everyday go-to coat is by Jessica Simpson. Her plus coats are excellent!

Classic Camel Trench by City Chic — on my list of coats to get next!

Venerable American brand Pendleton makes much more than blankets — check out this gorgeous walker coat, in plus sizes!

This bold, red Michael Kors raincoat would be perfect for April showers!

This mixed media Via Spiga coat is grown, sexy and stylish with great faux fur and leather details.

Pro tip — wait until the weekends to shop, City Chic Online has amazing sales that typically start on a Friday and go through the weekend!

Thanks to City Chic  for the opportunity.

I’m trying to do more OOTD posts to inspire myself (and hopefully others) to get out of our comfort zone. Let me know if you like it!
