Coach Holiday — A Girl Can Dream, Can’t She?

by afrobella

Logo1

Santa, Baby remains one of my all time favorite holiday songs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOMmSbxB_Sg

Eartha Kitt is so elegant. So fabulous. So unabashedly materialistic! Eartha is cooing about the kind of Christmas most of us dream about. So maybe this year Santa won’t be bringing you a yacht or the deed to a platinum mine. But thanks to the Coach Holiday Blog-a-Day, you might just win something special from an esteemed accessories brand.

Coach specially selected thirty bloggers (including moi!) to share their favorites from the Holiday Collection. And one lucky reader will get to win a special prize! I’m super stoked — this is my biggest giveaway yet!!

Coach has a gift to suit your every need, but my absolute favorites from the 2009 holiday collection are as follows.

80728_blk

The gloves. Coach has ’em in every color, but I’m especially loving the motorcycle gloves. Paired with a simple black sweater and jeans, they’re subtle but effective statement makers.
12949_svbk

The Sabrina Bag. Does it get more classic than this? This is the perfect size purse for work, play, and the wee hours in between. Love the shape and the capacity — this is the kind of purse any bella would be proud to take a-traveling, am I right?
14329_gmat

The Textured Metallic Audrey. It gets no flyer! This purse turns heads. Trust me! The Textured Metallic Audrey was my companion on the Oasis of the Seas cruise, and I got nothing but questions about it. The wonderful thing about being on that particular ship was, I could just point the curious onlookers in the direction of the Coach store right there on board!

So 30 days, 30 blogs. Click here for the complete list. And to win a Sabrina purse of your very own right here on Afrobella — leave me a comment and let me know — have you been a good bella this year? Tell me the best deed you did in 2009!

Comments will be closed by Thursday night — or when I get to 100 comments. Whichever comes first, then I’ll choose a random winner! Please note — contest winners must have an address within the continental United States. Good luck, bellas!!

*** edited the next morning — WOW. Over 100 comments overnight?? That’s an Afrobella record, y’all! I’ll honor my first promise and keep this open till Thursday! Good luck everyone…

I’d say I was good this year. One good deed that stands out in my mind is that I played my flute for a nursing home. The residents really enjoyed it! Thanks 🙂

First let me say I am loving the motorcycle gloves. That touch of class and toughness is hard to find.

And now what I did to be a good bella this year. Helped an old lady cross the street. I was asked by her granddaughter when I was on my way to a workshop. “Yes, I’m going that way”. Famous last words. The old lady was going to a doc appointment and the g/d was in a hurry to not be late to work. Did I mention the Old dame’s top speed was 2 miles per hour. And I had to walk her three blocks. Then I had to get her a wheelchair. Twenty minutes later I’m signing in for my workshop. Weird experience. I must have one of those trustworthy faces or something.

Anyway, that was my good deed this year.

I guess the best “deed” I’ve done this year has been coming home to take care of Ma (she’s getting up there and her health is not so hot). But I’m not sure if that counts cuz I’m her little one, and that’s my job. And really, she’s been so amazing to be around it is no sacrifice. So, hm…I gave some clothes to the Salvation Army? 😀

Coach gloves are awesome! They’re so stylish but its still practical, warm and comfy.

I’ve been a good bella this year! I think best thing I did this year (and probably one of the best things I’ll ever do) was sign up as a Big Sister in my town. Such an awesome and rewarding experience.

btw, my real name is Sabrina, the bag would be perfect for me 🙂 kidding 😉

My Best Deed for 2009: I provide 24 student’s a safe place to learn and be truly cared about everyday. I give them the confidence to do ANYTHING they can! And provide things for them as needed if their families cannot.

I’ve been an extra good bella this year. Even though it was financially difficult at times, I made significant contributions to my church, a local non-profit, and donated TONS of clothes to Dress for Success. I’m especially proud of this last effort as DfS always has a need for plus-sized businesswear . . . I was more than happy to help outfit my full-figured sisters who are trying to get back on their feet and (re)enter the workforce.

I’m so excited for this giveaway – I love Coach. Hope I win! *squeal*

In 2009, I have helped countless people find employment while working at a non-profit. Moms, Daughters, Sisters, Grandmothers, Dads, Brothers, Sons, anyone you can think of. Its what I do for my community.

I have been a good bella! In June this year I moved from IL to GA to help my youngest daughter with my grandson so she could finish her last semester of college. A lot of people thought since she “made her bed…”, however, this was her last semester and she needed the help. I was laid off in April with no hope of being called back, and my daughter needed my help. So, my good deed was relocating to help my daughter however, I feel she gave me the good deed of my grandson, what a blessing to be so close even though he is a handful!

My best good deed this year was a couple effort. My husband & I gave his parents our car this weekend. We’re still have a few months to pay on it, but they’ve never had anything this new. (or nice as my father-in-law says). Actually had to convince his mom it was okay, us doing this for them. They have medical & financial things going on & we needed to know they are safe! To see how over the moon they are was so well worth it!!

  19. Tray

    at

Aww bella, I just wanted to send love your way! You always pay it forward, a deed all bellas should do. Use your status to help others! That’s what this diva named Tray did in ’09, shared the love…. hoping the love and good karma comes full circle in ’10. Keep doing what you love, one day, it will all be worth it!

    XO

I’ve been a great bella! Despite my hectic senior year, I’ve been committed to tutoring teen moms as well as organizing senior citizens, and developing programs for troubled youth! PICK ME 🙂

The best deed I did this year was volunteer to meet with couples who have lost a child, specifically newborns through the local March of Dimes. My husband and I lost our baby girl 05/10/08, we felt it was important to show support to couple’s who have lost
a child since we know exactly what they are going through.

This year has been a bad year, I got laid off from my job, discovered I have congestive heart failure, which was diagnosed after I had my first born child but I’m blessed in spite of. I’ve tried to do many deeds given my unemployed status, but my best dead has been feeding the homeless. I realize that no matter what your situation there is always someone who is doing much worst!

I’ve been a really good girl this year, but the best deed I did was chaperone my younger sister’s orchestra trip. I had to fly from Atlanta to Detroit just to ride on a bus for hours to Boston w/ high school freshmen and sophomores and then take the bus back to Detroit to get on a plane to Atlanta the next day.

Did I mention that this was during the last month of Spring classes and I was in the middle of teaching a freshman comp class, as well as my own graduate studies?

Cost of field trip: approx $800

Cost of plane ticket: approx $200

Cost of Harvard sweatshirt for sis: approx $25

Watching her play her violin onstage: Priceless

She’s already told me to start saving for Japan in 2012 🙂

Hello! I hope you will pick me. This year I gave cash to 2 families at my church who lost jobs this year. I wasn’t able to make a mortgage payment, but just wanted to give them a ‘happy’ for that day. Perhaps to buy icecream and forget about troubles, if only for a little while. I am thankful for a job and I believe if you remember someone, someone will remember you. Thanks

The best deed I did this year was try to help the young man that was living in the stairwell of my apartment building. My husband talked to him and gave him money and I looked up programs for him to go get his GED.

I’ve been a good bella! Tho they are family, so I’d have done it regardless: My nephew’s apartment got broken into and his wife didn’t feel safe there anymore. Both of them and their 4 kids (11 mos, 2yrs, 4, 11)moved in for about 2 months this past summer. They were great for the most part, but let’s just say my decision to not have children was validated this summer! Kids take a lot of work and coordination! They are back on their feet and in a new place tho, so all is well. Shout out’s to all the other fabulous bella’s who have commented!!

  33. Tara

My best deed this year? I helped make a community garden, with proceeds going to The Hunger Project, a charity designed to help women and men in developing nations have the power to end hunger in their communities. This summer, I’m going to Tanzania to help the project personally. (but that’s 2010, so it doesn’t count haha!) And props to everyone else who is making a difference! It makes me smile =)

I love this bag!! Yes, i have been good this year. The best deed that I did this year was volunteering with the Canada Revenue Agency to prepare income taxes for the elderly and disabled. My good deed of the year is volunteering my free time at a clinic. I’m a RN and when I’m not working I enjoy going to the free clinic where I teach people how to monitor their blood pressures and at the clinic we’re really big on preventive care and health promotion!

    XOXO

Thanks, Bella! I have been good this year…I think. I was going through a fast food drive-thru when I noticed a tired (as in I pulled a double shift)lookin woman with a couple of kids in the back of her car, so after paying for my order I paid for her food too. I just wanted to make her day a little special.

Lovely Giveaway (I love Sabrina). During Thanksgiving, I helped out at my local church. We raised money and was able to serve families and individuals that are less fortunate to a nice Thanksgiving Day Meal. I had a blast there and plan on doing it again next year.

I did a good deed just the other day! I walked into our local PX and saw a little boy about to run out of the doors in tears. He was crying for his mother. I stopped him and asked him if he was lost and where he saw his mother last. We walked into the main entryway of the store and waited while my husband went to have his mother paged. She ended up turning the corner and snatched him up and hugged him tight. She was so greatful that I stayed with him. I guess I would’nt call it a “good deed” so much as it was just the right thing to do. 🙂

The best deed I did would have to be helping my family cope through a hard time, thanksgiving wasnt too great and things have been rough but I tried to keep the family together, tried making more activities for us today. I pretty much just try to cheer everyone up and give them hope because life does get better

  52. Sarada

    HELLO!!
I believe (and hope) that I have been a good bella this year. Hmm…a good deed…I can’t really remember all I’ve done this year. Maybe this is considered a good deed? But this thanksgiving, I had cooked everything, three dishes and a desert, the whole shibang(lol). Usually its my mom that does it but I thought I’d let her rest for the day plus I had also wanted to try out some thanksgiving recipes that I found online.
Hope its considered a good deed.
    Thanks!!!

well i think the best deed i have done is i have a huge over loaded closet and this summer i was going to have a garage sale because i lost my job due to the economy and been unemployed for a year but instead i got a card in the mail that the salvation army will be in my neighborhood to pick up clothes and jackets i would like to donate and instead i did that.

Thanks for hosting, would love to win this prize!

The best, or at least the most self-rewarding deed I’ve done this year would have to be the online group I created for some high-school-age girls I know all across the country. These girls are all ambitious, smart, and driven, and from a variety of cultures. I decided to start up an online communication network for them to talk about and share ideas about everything, from their future educational goals, to what they plan on wearing to prom and other dances lol. My goal was for the girls to get a chance to interact with people from other regions and communities, and hopefully gain more friendships and future alliances with other high-achieving young women. So far, it’s been going great, and I hope to find some more girls to add to the network for 2010!

The best deed I’ve done was help my parents with the bills by giving them some extra cash. Even though I only had the job for a month I wanted to help out my parents. I always told them once I have some kind of job I will give them extra cash which I did. I fell great doing that. Its something I would do all the time I get a job. Since I dont have a job right now as much as I can I help around the house and with their jobs to get things done faster. My parents have given so much to me and now its my turn to give them what they deserve and more 🙂

    Enter Me Pls!!!
Yes, haha I have been a good bella =]
The best deed I did would probably be staying home for almost the entire year, rarely going out, I’m a teen and that’s pretty hard. My family is tight financially and it hurts to ask for ten dollars to go to the movies, and that only covers the movie. Nowadays it’s hard to have fun and go out without spending money. Most of my friends live far from me and so everytime I go out I have to drive to where they live because they all live around the same area. It costs to drive back and forth and to go to the movies or out to eat or bowling or anything else we do. So I only went out about 5 or less times. And 3 out of those times, I didn’t even spend any money. Just the ride there cost gas. That’s what I did for my family. =]

Thanks so much for this awesome giveaway bella!

I would have to say that my best good deed this year has been helping my best friend with school. He is a professional dancer living in NY and just returned to school after a 5 year hiatus. He had been so nervous about going back to school. So, I have pretty much stayed up with him..sometimes all night helping him right his papers over the phone (I live in TX). I even typed up several of his papers for him when his computer went on the fritz and emailed them to his professor. Class is not over yet, but so far he is making an A. Yay! I think the best thing is that he has gotten so much more confident about his writing.

i have been good ( i think soo lol). the best deed i did was help in a turkey drive. around thanksgiving, my church raises money to buy turkeys. this year we bought 100 turkeys. we gave 60 to a local charity/soup kitchen and we gave hand deliver the rest to our low income neighbors. although i got a bad cold because it was so cold that day, i still think it was worth it when i saw how happy they were to get a free turkey. some people even wanted to donate but we just told them that it would be better if they come to a service at our church. i realize how lucky i am to be able to gather around a table full of food with family. i think this bag would be a great christmas great for me and my twin sis.

  64. Denise

My best deed of the year was taking an Americorps position with a rebuilding non-profit in New Orleans, instead of continuing to look for a regular job that would have paid at least triple the money.

  65. Debbie

I’ve been great bella! My best deed this year would have to be volunteering at a home where I go to college. They cook meals a few days a week and anyone can come in and enjoy a nice warm meal. I love going because at most food pantrys you simply serve a meal and leave. Here I actually get to sit down and eat with these people. I get to talk with them, learn more about their lives, and hear stories…it’s great!

My best deed this year…perhaps it’s being true to myself and following my dreams. It’s scary to graduate from university and thinking that the life ahead is already planned out for me. It’s even scarier to break out of that mold and dare to venture out and explore. I did that, and I am glad that I did!

Hi I would love to win this bag. Really love it. Please pick me.

Hmm…a good deed…I think my story is a good deed gone bad..
    haha anywhy here it goes.

There was once, on my way home, this elderly man approached me and asked me if I could give him some money to take a bus home as he has lost his money. Seeing that he looked really pitiful, I gave him some money. But when I got home later, I found out that he was a cheat. He used the same story to get money from my mom! I felt cheated and dumb although the amount of money I gave him wasn’t a lot.

However, this will not stop me from helping strangers on the street who really needed help.

For the past 4 years, I’ve been away from home to chase my dreams. Recently, I moved back home to be closer to family. With my parents getting older, and new little niece and nephews…I thought the best thing I could was be with my love ones to help and support.

What a classy way to start off 2010, with a brand spanking new Coach handbag.

My good deed of the year is when I spent a few weeks during the summer at the SPCA volunteering full time to help the animals being brought in everyday. It took ages and ages to bring them back to their original state, mentally and physically, but you have no idea how rewarding it is to see a dog walk away into a new direction in life.

Animal lover or not, it would warm any scrooge’s heart to see that.

Cheers, and I hope you pick me!

I just want to say I love this bag!

The best deed I did in 2009 so far was leave college after a year to come help support my family. Both my parents lost their jobs and I came home to help them with my younger sisters. It’s hard because of how proud my parents are so to them they feel bad that I had to leave school but I would do anything for my family so I had no problem leaving.

    Super edgy bag!! So CUTE!

Ok, so, my great deed for 2009 was helping my mom out. She just had surgery to remove tumors that were growing inside her. While she rested, I helped clean the house, clean the dishes, Cook for my mom, do the laundry, get her water (repeatedly),help my sister, and my dad. I’m happy I helped my mom because she can’t move to do all these stuff or else she’ll bleed from her surgery.

I also did myself a favor, I moved and exercised! hehe! =D

Doh! Too late, this early Thursday morning. The best recent thing I’ve done was volunteer Thanksgiving Day at an organization that delivers nutritious meals to the needy/ill who could use a meal. Saddest part of my day was the three or four year old baby who greeted us at the door with a “Yay! we have food”. I’ve kept the address and I think I’m going to have to stop back w/ lots of nonperishable food after my paycheck comes in. Because no one should experience joy like that over a basic meal, you know?

    Thanks Bella! You do great.

Despite having an emotionally devastating year. I have maintained positivity with my family, friends, coworkers and patients. I made sure this year that no matter what happen that day or week I had a smile on my face for my pateints and brought laughter to their hearts. My employers and managers barely knew my life was spiraling out of control and it made things a lot easier to me. Despite things not going right/planned in my life right now, I cherish what I do have. I refuse to let these hard times control me and going out of 2009 I am determined to take 2010 by the horns and make it my year. It will be my year for success, fulfillment, joy and happiness. Looking back if all the things that has happened to me this year if I was 2-3 years younger I would be broken. But my maturity has shown me how strong I am and how I can work through anything.

My best deed this year was that I went to the homeless shelter on the weekends with a group of students from my school to cook breakfast for about 100+ people. There were even people who look like they have a home but just don’t have the money for food. It opened me up to a whole other level of understanding of what these people are going through. Many are suffering in this economy crisis, and I pray for their well-being. Happy Holidays! thanks for doing this contest!

All year I have worked as a teaching assistant in a university where the student body is largely made up of at-risk minority students. I love everything about my job! I have helped several students see that they can get a college education and achieve their dreams if they just stick to it and commit to the program. It was amazing to witness the transformation in these students! A few who lacked writing skills at the beginning of the year are now writing at a college level with ease 🙂 I am very proud of their progress, and I feel blessed that I was able to assist them in part of their academic journey.

Ooh, I have been a good bella this year! I think my best deed was “adopting” a child from Honduras through Children’s International. It really is a great experience.

Well, the BEST (but no brainer) deed I did this year was rescuing a little kitty.. I found him outside my apartment, and he had been lit on fire and burned really badly (people can be absolutely evil) so I took him 45 min. to a shelter. They treated his wounds, cleaned him and fed him.. I was hoping to adopt him once he had healed completely, but sadly he passed away a week later. I was told he died peacefully.. This year for Christmas I am making a donation to that shelter for making him last days a restful and safe.

Long time lurker here! I would have to say I am most proud of providing my neighbor, a young single father of a 6 month old, clothing and money to purchase and pampers and formula for his son. New to fatherhood, he was struggling with how to handle the child. Due to circumstances, the mother was out of the picture and he was left to raise the child. I did not know this man but I felt compelled to reach out to him.

I think I’ve done a lot of good this year. I’ve done volunteer work for 826CHI, raised money for donors choose, Childrens International and the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless. I bought Thanksgiving dinner for a family in Albany Park and am playing Santa to 3 kids. I grew up without a lot, so now that I’m in a position to help I try to any chance I get.

I would have to say I have done 2 good deeds this year. The first would be that I gave birth to a gorgeous little girl in April. 🙂 And the second would be that I mentored a 10-year old little girl that had a terrible home life and had no positive role models. Hopefully she and I both learned from each other and can go out and be stronger, more compassionate people. I believe that everyone should give back – no matter what your situation is.

    Thank you for considering me!

As a freshmen in college, I lessen the burden for my parents by receiving full year scholarship! I’ve done many volunteerings in high school and church, but one good deed I’d like to share with Afrobella is that I feel good about being able to give others and strangers feeling of even hint warmth with smile and respect.

It’s a little weird writing my best deed for the year. But, my best deed is that I am loyal to those I love. This means I have kept 2 children (in addition to my 3) for friends in a bind. I have helped friends pay bills when they couldn’t. I have worked with various programs for children. I have loved unconditionally but isn’t that what we’re supposed to do?

The best deed that I took on for 2009 was to began mentoring an at-risk teenage girl, who I will call “E.” Before I became her mentor, E was always in trouble at school and had ran away from home several times, and is currently on juvenile probation AND parole. Then I stepped into her life and showed her that she didn’t have to go down the path that she was going down. I have taken her to plays, museums, house tours, and several girls conferences just to show her that there’s more to life than what she has been used to. I am so proud to say that she has turned her life around in such a short time. On her 14th birthday, she called me and told me that she was going to be a better person and that she was committed to acting right at school and to doing what she needs to do to go to college. Seems that she now wants to be a counselor to help girls like her!!!!

    Enter me Bella!

It’s hard thinking of a good deed because many times we do things not even knowing that it is considered a deed. We do things out of the kindness of our hearts because we have people in our lives that we love or we meet complete strangers and we do something for them because it is in are nature. So after I pondered a moment and thought of my good deed, I would say being there for my boyfriend. He was recently laid off as a fireman after only being on the department for a year. He’s really down and out and instead of turning my back or talkin trash I’m right there holding him up and encouraging him. Doing what I can to look out for him the best way I know how. It’s hard to see a black man down, ya know! So I just support him and tell him “trouble don’t last always!”

First off this contest is amazing and I absolutely adore Coach! This year I started medical school and I think the best deed that i’ve done so far is volunteer in a third world country with underprivledged students to help them with education and health. That experience in itself was incredibly rewarding and it was a remarkable eye opener, it’s definately something I will continue to do in the future! 🙂

    Happy holidays!

Hey bella! My good deed this year?

One day this summer two of the sweetest stray kittens visited my backyard, loudly meowing for some food. The only thing I had to give them was some crab meat (and expensive crab meat at that!) and milk. I love animals and I couldn’t help seeing them so hungry. Sure enough, as soon as I placed two cans and two bowls outside for them, they chowed down. Nothing beat seeing them eating some long-waited for food. Though I couldn’t get too close to them because they were a little jittery, they were both SO adorable!

Thanks for the contest bella & hope I win! 😀

I was unaware that Coach was so generous. That is really awesome though! I know what I’m eyeing for my wish list now!

In other news…I think Eartha Kitt was one of the greatest sex symbols of the 20th century. Man, the way that woman cooed out a song…could send chills up your spine, and just singing along made you feel sexy.

I always loved her quote “I am in the race of Eartha”…being that I was one of those racially ambiguous youngsters (and still am…sorta). But kudos to the Santa Baby posting. One of my fave Christmas songs!

This has been a very good blog year for Afrobella and I’m excited to see what 2010 has in store for YOU! (me too!)

My good deeds for this year, I’m proud to say, are numerous. Volunteering at my church, and at homeless shelters.

The one thing that I am most proud of though is helping my elderly neighbors get around. Doing work around the house, helping with the trash and driving them around.
My grandma lives 800 miles away so I help them to make up for the time I am missing with her!

I just noticed the best deed commenting…(sorry, it’s early). I would have to say my best deed that I recall this year was splitting my Jimmy John’s sandwich with a hungry man on the street.

I’m sure I’ve done some other nice things, but that one stuck out because I remember it was the subs for a dollar day and I only had a dollar. I only wish I had two.

My prime good deed of 2009 is actually my New Year’s resolution from January that I vowed to keep all year, and I am proud to say that I have! I donate blood every three months (even though I’m squeamish around needles). I just remind myself that it is for a good cause, and suck it up. I know it really is a blessing to the people who need it, and almost anyone can do it! I think I’ve been a good bella this year, at least I know I’ve tried! Please enter me, thank you and God bless!

Hi there! I’ve been a very good bella this year…At work, I’ve been volunteering to talk with minority junior high and college students about my field. I’ve even helped to organize web conferences with a few colleges. This was a pretty big step for me, because I don’t fancy myself a “teacher” or public speaker. But I thought it was very important for me to do, considering there aren’t many Black creatives in my industry. So I made it a point to step out my “box” and [hopefully] inspire a young mind. I’ve also donated clothing; and I plan on giving money to my two favorite charities before the year is over.

    Thanks for these wonderful giveaways!

My best deed this year was teaching my cousin to read. Her name is Destiny and she is adopted. Her biological mother was addicted to crack and alcohol during her pregnancy and as a result, Destiny was born with a severe learning disorder as well as some other health issues.
She was held back from the 2rd grade and then from the 3rd grade. Over the summer I spent an hour every day teaching her to read, write, and spell when her parents were too frustrated to continue.
She began school this year at a 5th grade reading level and was allowed to move up to the 4th grade. I am so proud of her.

She doesn’t really have any “namebrand” items are really much of anything that can make her feel like a “lady” except the regular “mother” clothes. I think this would brighten up her holiday! And i could actually give her a gift and she wouldn’t have to say, ” i love it cause it came from the heart” 🙂 Thank you, and good luck to everyone!

This is awesome! I dunno… I’ve been a really good bella this year, even during my bouts of unemployment. I recently started working at my church’s food pantry, where you really get to see how much of a difference you can make in someone else’s life, and how bad, in comparison, your own situation doesn’t seem. I help people carry things to their cars, hug people when they look like they need one, color with the kids, and am just there as a friend. It’s the most rewarding thing in the world. I’d even dare to say that I’ve found my passion in service. Miraculously, when I stopped fretting over my situation and started pouring more into others, my needs have been taken care of! It definitely pays off in more ways than one!

To be 100% honest, no lie, I’ve been VERY good this year. I did a lot of growing up & taking responsibilites for my bad actions in the past. This year has been amazing in so many ways for me. The best deed I did for 2009 was start a non profit organization called, The Pretty Girl Project. It started out last year as a project to help the life of one girl going to prom but couldn’t afford all the bells and whistles, so a friend and I decided to sponsor her. This year we wanted to have a prom dress drive but when my local community center agreed to rent their ballroom to me for only $100, what started out as a prom dress drive has turned into a teen empowerment event. It takes place on April 24th and just thinking of the lives we will affect brings tears to my eyes.

    Happy Holiday!

My best deed in 2009? I realized late 2008 that while I was not where i wanted to be, I was not where I was and decided to share that feeling in 2009. Each month was a promise to help someone (friend, family, organization) finacially as much as I could. And I did! My niece was so appreciative when I paid 2 weeks of day care for my great niece in October. A close 2nd was creating a women’s financial education/empowerment group set to launch in Jan. 2010.

I had a very tough year and I still try to do my part and help others. I lost a 2nd son and my Mom so I have been down but try to keep busy. I try to help my friends, family and people I don’t know because it keeps me busy.I donate to many causes and send goodies to Military Families overseas.
I gather clothes for Goodwill ,was a caregiver for my total care Mom and make sure my family gets together for Sunday dinner.
I try my best because there is someone who need help and sometimes it just a phone call to ask how they are doing. I believe we should all try to do at least one good deed a day.
    Thanks for the chance

My BEST deed for 2009??? Allowing myself space and room to LOVE myself. I have gone many years dealing with self-loathing, allowing people to come in and take away the best parts of me. I finally stepped away and took time out to rebuild myself so that I could turn around and give love to those around me who deserve it…and I did just that! Regardless if I am chosen or not…2009 was this bella’s most awesome year!!

Yes, I have tried my very hardest to be good this year…I can say that is was difficult at times, but always worth it in the end. I guess one of the best good deeds that I have done this year is to try to teach my little boy what it means to be good…:) I am raising my son and as his mother, I want nothing more than to see him grow up to be a good man, and fine citizen, and to one day teach his own children. I guess the payoff isn’t that good this year, or even for the next few perhaps, but in the end, I know it will be one of the “best deeds”. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

Thanks for this contest Afrobella. I’ve done many good deeds this year, but I went to New Orleans this past weekend and it was a lady asking people for money to get medicine for her sick baby. Everyone was passing her by so I asked her what did she need w/o her even asking me. She told me and I walked with her to CVS and bought 2 things of pedialyte and children’s tylenol. She also mentioned that she wanted to ask for $$ for food but that was too much so I gave her $5 to go to McDonalds.
People need to know that many blessings will flow when you bless other people. Happy Holidays to all of the Afrobella readers.

    Hey Bella.
I’ve had a spectacular year. Does that mean I’ve been good? Periodically 😉
My good deed isn’t directly related to something I’ve done for others. Sure I’ve helped the elderly, volunteered and done things to help others but my best good deed of the year is finally improving my idea of self-worth thereby increasing my self-esteem.
When I finally realized my true worth, I was able to become a better friend, sister, daughter, employee, etc, and trailblazed a path towards future success.
Being able to put my best foot forward sounds like a great deed to me!

I have been a good bella this year; I have taken in a stray kitty…. She was stuck outside in very cold weather and my heart melted for her! I think everyone has their good and bad moments each year. Well, no ones ever perfect, right? I’ve done much volunteering, cleaning, and helping around the community, so I think I’ve done some good deeds so far this year. A good deed could be as simple as being a good daughter, or friend to others. I try to live my life as much as possible, because if you don’t get the most of it, whats the point of it? Also, I try to accept myself for who I am, which I know is a very hard thing to do, and I know most women have experienced too. It’s very great to get to that point in life where you have to accept things the way they are.
By the way, very stunning bag! (: Please enter me! I will be looking forward to who the winner is! THANKS! (:

For this past year I have taken care of my best friend, my mom. She has been very ill and I have used all of my vacation time from work taking care of her and making long medical trips. I have also moved back home to make things easier on her. As well as cutting weekends away with friends short to take her to the ER. I am not complaining, I love her more than anything and as much as she has sacrificed for me over the 26 years I can certainly go without for a few months.

I’ve done many good deeds in 2009 but, my favorite and most rewarding is being a parent volunteer at my daughters school.
I do it because I LOVE not only enriching my child’s learning experience but, also other children.
I’m a parent that acknowledges that these teachers can NOT do it alone!
Afrobella…I passionately believe that “parental involvement” is essential for the most well-rounded learning experience.

For my hard work and dedication, I received the Parent of The Month Award for the month of November 2009!

    Nope…
It’s not a Grammy, an Emmy, or an Oscar but, when I walked up to receive it, I cried.
    Why?
Because I was selected by the people who matter most, in my world..the students!

First of all, I’d like to thank you and Coach for giving everyone such an amazing opportunity to win such elegant and quality products this Christmas! ‘Tis the Season :o)

I feel like I have been the best bella I could possibly have been this year (and still trying to continue until the end of this month)! One of my good deeds I did this year give a six year old girl who was much less fortunate than I gave her the true experience of what it was like to be a “little princess.” We got our nails done, went shopping at Justice for Girls, and got our hair done together. It was such an experience for the both us. Giving a little girl the opportunity to feel more confident about herself felt amazing, she was grinning from ear to ear the rest of day.

Thanks again! Happy Holidays & God Bless!

My deed of 2009 was taking care of my best friend (and then later her mom when she got sick, meanwhile Erin (bff!) was still sick) when they had the swine flu during August in the summer. My mom would drop me off in the morning or sometimes I’d sleep over and then just keep them company and bring them things and take care of them. Luckily they got better! 🙂

First of all, I love your blog!!

I’ve been a great bella this year, and every great bella needs a great Coach bag!
My best deed happened actually in the beginning of the year when I went on a school trip to Argentina. There are a lot of homeless people in Buenos Aires, and when my friends and I went to an Argentine McDonald’s for ice cream, there was a homeless boy standing right by the counter. No little kid should have to sit and watch people eat ice cream, so I bought him an ice cream cone!

While there are probably many good deeds to share, the one i most vividly remember happened a few weeks ago. I was having frozen yogurt with some of my friends on a very cold and windy day. We had finished our dessert but were just sitting and conversing to pass the time. Soon after a bunch of people came in but all the tables.seats were full. Finally an older man ( i would say between his 50s and 60s) came in with his book in hand, but only wearing a sweatshirt. It was clear that he planned to stay awhile to enjoy his fro-yo and read his book, but once he had paid he realized the only free seats were outside in front. Though me and my friends could have remained in the restaurant to enjoy the evening, I figured that it was best to have the older man (who was wearing only a sweatshirt)enjoy his dessert out of the cold and in the warm and lit presence of the restaurant. I went outside to the man and let him know that we were leaving and that he could sit inside. We waited until he gathered his things to come inside before we left, to assure that he would have a place to sit inside. He gave the brightest, warmest and most kind smile that I will always remember.

Hi! Please enter me into this contest!

My good deed for 2009 was spending most of my time babysitting my 2 nephews and my niece for most of my time. Since my sister and brother in-law work about 10 hours and six days a week, they don’t really have time to look after the children, so I volunteer and helped them watch the kids! It’s really hard since I have to go to college and everything, but the kids also go to school.. but since I’m in college, I get out earlier than them..so I would like pick them up after school, make dinner for them, and help them with their homework and everything until their parents get home…
it’s hard but it’s fun at the same time and I also love them very much! 🙂
    Family always go first!

    Thank you for this opportunity.

Often times, the smallest deeds can bring the biggest joy to a person.

This summer while on my way to go school shopping for my three children. I stopped by a neighbors house and asked if their son could go to the store with us. I knew both of his parents had lost their jobs and things were really rough. Well, the money I had for school clothes I divided between the four kids and bought the neighbors school clothes and sneakers. He was elated and overjoyed and most of all, thankful. My kids didn’t mind having less because that’s what I have taught them, to always help a friend in need.

By no means are we the Huxtables, I haven’t worked in a year, I’m on medical leave. It was a sacrifice but my heart was glad we could lend a helping hand. God knows, I would have wanted someone to help me.

Love your site! Thanks Coach for letting me explore new blogs!!! My good deed of 2009 has been taking care of work for my co-worker who just found out she has cancer. She is 63 years old and has a son and grandson (father and son) who are both serving in Iraq at the same time. On top of the daily stress of her loved ones being in Iraq, her finding out about her cancer and how she will take care of her husband who lost his job 8 months ago has been mentally challenging. I stay late for work to help her take a load off her desk, leave her words of encouragement everyday, and recently bought her 3 granddaughters dance shoes (as a surprise).

    hey afrobella,
one good deed i did recently was when i went to the movie theaters and i bought a ticket for New Moon, and then a family of four behind me went to purchase four tickets, however, there were only three tickets left. since i had seen New Moon three times already, i gave the family my ticket so they could all see the movie together, mostly because its rare that you see a whole family spending time together these days.

    well that my good deed.

Quite recently, I helped a friend of mine who’s been out of school for several weeks, catch up on her mountain load of homework. She is very sick and has been in and out of the hospital, but shy to tell us what is wrong with her. I worked very hard to make her know that her friends were there to support there and that we only needed her to be open with us.

    Thanks! Breana

Wow what a beautiful purse! I can see why you got so many compliments on it.

Anyways, I think my good deed this year was to work on being a better listener for friends and family. Several people I know had a very rough year: economically, romantically, psychologically and even with their physical health. The best thing I did all year was to take the time to put some of my own troubles aside when my friends and family needed someone to just listen, vent or cry to.

    Fabulous!

I’m an active participant of the ‘Key Club’ at my high school. The key club is an organization that contributes to volunteer activites every month. Each month, we have a bagel sale to raise money ( mind you, this involves waking up at 530 am to prep the bagels) We stay after school to set up for activites; hand out brochures at school plays; donate clothing, or food to the needy. I’ve been trying my best to be a loyal member of this club and it’s definitely giving me a good vibe. I enjoy helping other people out!

We will be sending them this week and they should arrive just in time for festivities!!

My good deed of the year was I pulled over on the highway to help a woman whose car had broken down on the side of the road. She had 3 kids in the backseat of her van and it was about 40 degrees outside. I took them all to a friends house who lived nearby and gave them the number to a local towing company. Without my help they probably would have been stranded on the side of the road till someone decided to stop.

My best deed for the past 4 yrs., including this year has been raising money and walking the 5 mile March for Babies walk. I don’t have any personal experiences for doing this, it was just something I decided to do with my sister one year. And from the there on I have continued to do it. It is really one of the most gratifying things ever. Not only to be able to raise money and help the families with premature babies in need, but to also walk with the families of those who lost loved ones as well as walk with the families and children who survived. What a humbling experience to say the least. It is a day I look forward to every year.

So, we donated food for food drives and helped sort food for a feeding program that fed hundreds of families. A few days later, as we were leaving Sam’s and my son (8y.o) ran back to give his change to Salvation Army. He was soo proud he was helping.

I’ve been good (mostly) this year. I finally got the office building I work in to start recycling paper. After months of arguing with management we have our little blue bins all over the place.

Hi Afrobella!!!! I love your blog btw, and have been a faithful reader for the past year. The best deed I did this year in my opinion was be by my dad’s side and take care of him in the hospital before he passed away. And although it’s nothing to brag about, it was one of those things where although it was very sad and painful to deal with I would not trade those last days with him for any other moment in the world.

I think this is a great contest! So here I am commenting in hopes that my wife (a huge Coach bag lover) wins! Please, Please it would be the perfect Christmas gift! This is my good husband deed of 2009!

My best deed this year has got to be when I cleaned up the whole house for my mother. And I’m not just talking about vacuuming, dusting, etc. I’m talking about I-went-through-every-single-box-in-the-house (closet, attic, AND basement). Afterwards I dusted and vacuumed and sorted out all the junk/treasures and donated most to the Salvation Army!

That is a really cute bag! Some of the good deeds that I have done this year was helping my mother out of a financially when she fell behind on some bills, and always being just a phone call away when someone is in need of my babysitting skills. I’m also thinking about looking into some sort of volunteer functions. Its just nice to know that I am doing something, no matter how small, to make someones day a little easier.

Well, I would have to say that my best deed of 2009 was that I volunteered with a neighborhood Girl Scout troop every other Friday night. I got to know many of the girls and I look forward to working with them through 2010 as well.
Thanks for the opportunity to win such a beautiful bag!

Love the bag! And grrrreat contest idea as well. The world could use some more good deed-doers.
This year, I made it my mission to ensure that a project, started by a beloved community member, was completed during his lifetime. It meant a lot to him, and it was important to me that it not fall through the cracks.

My best deed in 2009. Let’s see, there’s the volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and Alpha House (a shelter for displaced families). I also organized my friends into creating a custom bobble-head that looks just like another friend of ours for his birthday. That was pretty awesome.

Enter me! I adore coach but am using my money this holiday season on my friends and family not myself, thus it would be a delightful treat and surprise.

I’ve been a good bella, a busy bella, but a good bella. I have taken care of my aunt after two surgeries in addition to juggling full time college and internships. In addition – but I do this every year – I collected children’s books for local schools and shelters as I believe that books as a child are just so important in fostering growth and creativity plus I loved them growing up.

I try to be as good of a bella as I can.

Last month on my way back from this poetry jam thing, my roommate and I are going back home. She drives a truck(the reaction we get when folks see 2 black chicks hop out of an old truck makes my day!). As we’re going along, I tell her that I think I just saw someone on the side of the road. She’s like girl you always seeing things, but I’m sure of it. I make her turn around and sure enough this guy was there. We’re in school, so it was like a frat guy but he was soooo wasted like her couldn’t get up. We were so scared b/c he tried to get up many times and slammed his head onto the concrete sidewalk(no joke) like 3 times! He came up to the truck and we got scared again because well we didn’t know what he’d do. What did he do? He banged on the windows telling us to help him, then somehow flopped in the back of the truck. We called the ambulance and they took him to the hospital. whew! we were just glad he got medical attention.

    (hope i get the purse)

The best thing I did this year was last May when I cut my hair short and donated my 18 inches hair to Locks of Love. Back then I was depressed and in the middle of a divorce. Well, when things are down, there’s only one direction one can go: sideways. I hope the recipient (especially the children) are happy and smiling again seeing their faces in the mirror.

The best deed I can think of off the top of my head from 2009 was when we took in a dog who’s owners were getting rid of him. He was in bad need of a costly surgery on his eye. His previous owner didn’t want to spend the money to have it fixed. I was so glad that we were able to take him in and have it treated, otherwise I don’t think she would ever have brought him to the vet. Sadly we don’t have Charley anymore as he passed in October.

Have I been a good bella? Lets see. The thing that stands out the most to me is the friendship I made with a 93-year-old woman. I feel like I got so much more out of our friendship than she did. Just listening to her stories inspired me to lead a better and fuller life. The joy that every day brings her is amazing, as is her love for sparkly shoes. Knowing her changed my life the way so few friendships do. I had to move across the country and I miss her everyday. Now we are pen pals and that is nearly as much fun.

Hey bella! One of the deeds I like to do throughout the year is to always offer food to anyone who looks in need of a meal. Whenever someone asks for money, I prefer to offer food. Be it a sandwich from subway or a hot dog, chips, and juice from the gas station, it seems to go a lot further than 50 cents from the drink holder in my car. I hope everyone can do the same during this holiday season, and make someone elses day a little brighter.

The good deed I did in 2009 is helping someone get on an escalator. What? how is that a good deed you may think?

THe old woman’s daughter told me her mother had a fear of escalators and has been waiting there for 10 minutes for her to get on the escalator so they could go down.

I came up to them, held her arm and helped her step on the escalator, and she could not stop thanking me. I felt good that I made someone else feel good =).

I Love helping people.. I strongly belive that good deeds are blessing in our heart and homes. I try to be a better person every day by doing good thins for other.. even if its helping kids aroung the neighborhood with their homework..( hispanic background main language spanish) But one that made my heart shake was this morning. coming out of a doctors office (where i volunteer to traslate) and there was this elderly lady that would barely hold on to her self and maybe her daughter. well it was raining and I grab my umbrella and that lady by the arm, and walk with them to get their car( it was raining so bad here in ga.) it broke my heart in pieces just because i don’t have my grandparents here with me.. I ended up wet and step on a puddle, but it was all worth it.. Oh and then i went and grab my baby to get her in the car.. it was all a coinsidence that i helped her.. i was only suppost to get my daughters blanky to cover her from the wind.. please enter me. please.. low on cash it would be a great persent for me.. please enter me..

good deed gone bad too.. I was going back home one afternood and it was raining. so i saw a lady walking on the side of the road.. i felt so bad for her i wanted to give her a ride, but how could i put a stranger in the car with my 5 month old baby. so i drove to the nearest store and bought an umbrella, when i got back she was gonne.. i drove for like 10 min looking for her, and never found her. So now i cary that same umbrella just in case i come across another person that might need it..

The best deed I did in 2009 happened as I was walking towards a building on Campus. As I approached I noticed that there was a woman calling for people as they passed. I approached her and noticed she was blind. I asked her if she needed anything and she told me she was stranded and needed to call for a ride. I then let her use my cellphone and talked on the phone to the person giving her a ride and gave them directions. One of the few days I felt genuinely good about myself. It was wonderful!

The best deed i did this year and I am so proud of myself for it because I learned so much from it. I went to Mexico with my school to build a house for a family there. It was build from scratch and it was a team of 11 students. None of us had any building experience. it was amazing to be able to help the family to give them house. I was so touched by this trip. It was the best thing I think i did this year.

Well, I’d like to leave you a poem first. Here it goes:

A Coach bag is what I seek,
to make me feel stylish and chic.

    I’d love to stroll around,
    flashing this bag around town.

I hope this comment shines through,
    and somewhat amuses you.

Please, let this bag be mine,
so the diva in me can shine!

On a serious note, I’ve lost 48 pounds so far. I’m hoping to reach my fifty pound goal by this Friday. It sure would be nice to celebrate such a great scale victory with an awesome new purse.

P.S.- This is an enjoyable blog to read. I’m happy I found it. 🙂
