Me, fishin’? Not really. But my in-laws are here, and I am going camping, in the National Key Deer Refuge! I am SO not a camper, but the experience will be more than bearable because I insisted on getting the Eureka N!ergy Family Camping Tent. It’s big, tall, comfortable, and has power so you can charge your cell phone and plug in a fan. It’s not cheap, but it’s the next best thing to an RV when you look at any online RV payment calculator, and will last a lifetime of camping. And word to the wise, buy a tent like this online rather than go to someplace like , Bass Pro Shops, where if I might vent for a moment, the service was rude and unprofessional.
Online, from someplace like Amazon, you can be sure that you’re getting a brand new item and not a completely different tent repackaged in the wrong box. In the store, you might wind up with an unfriendly manager when you arrive with a legitimate complaint like that. Just speaking from a recent bad experience.

I’ll be back on Monday with a big Earth Day post, and for now, here are some great articles I’ve been reading online.

How Young is Too Young? — an absolutely ridiculous article about kids as young as eight going to the spa for waxing and manicures. Insane. This one made me mad.

Great musical flashback at Stereohyped.

Don’t Forget That Curly Hair is Beautiful Too, an open letter to Oprah, by way of Jezebel.

Racialicious on last night’s debates, which I hear was a trainwreck of rehashed media hot-button crapola.

OMG I want the NARS Exotica collection! Love that lipstick color…

When did Motown Girl get a fly new look? I love her site so, so much. She’s such a tremendous resource. And now she’s got me thinking about finally trying that Aphogee treatment! I was kinda scared, the instructions are so vague.

Happy weekend, bellas!

    How do you say…deebomb?
Cuz this song (in the parlance of the day)totally was It.
I still remember Lady Miss Kier(?) in a mirrored catsuit on SNL rocking the sh!t out of this song. Thank you bella, for the Stereohyped link–this song makes it feel like Friday!

I love Motown Girl’s new look! I couldn’t open that article on how young is too young…a lot of that stuff is ridiculous…one of my friends was letting her child get pedicures since she was 4 or 5. WHATEVER. However, I do know of a case where a young white girl (9) had her legs waxed because she was very pale and and the hair on her legs was very black and thick and she went to a private school where those short plaid skirts and knee socks were required, and all the other girls were making fun of her. That whole situation is sad, I think.

On another note, you camp like I would if my ex in-laws had ever been able to talk me into it. You’re a better woman than me. I just always holla’d back when they returned.

Oh my! my husband and i was just talking about the fishing spots that we are going to hit up this summer in Maryland.I also want to go crabing for some of those good Maryland crabs.I hope that you all have a great time, and take plenty of Off because the first and last time i went camping the bugs almost drove me crazy.

hey bella, you will have to tell us about your camping trip when you get back. some friends of mine are trying to get me to go camping but i’m a little apprehensive. i’ve never been and something about sleeping on the cold, damp ground with insects dancing about does not speak to me as clearly as it does to them. but gotta give things a try, right? i see what you’re saying about that aphogee tx; that’s a little too suspect for me. be careful if you use it!

Have a fun and save trip. I want to hear about it. I never been camping, I don’t do outdoors well.

Whose looking that hard that the nails of an 8 year old? What are they waxing at 8? The backs of their necks?

I had an Apogee treatment! They are the best. They stink to high heaven but make your hair very strong.

I can not say enough good things about Aphogee Treatment. Trust me, it is a miracle worker! Just don’t use it constantly…I normally use mine after a relaxer, not right after but after a relaxer, as in same day. As Edessedesigns said, its smells horrible, but the payoff is great, healthy, strong hair!!!!!

    Hi Bella,

I remember that on Kimora’s reality show she had her assistant take her little kids to a Kiddie Spa. Regarding the curls, I think that people, including myself, should embrace their curls. I admit I tend to straghten my hair until summer just because of the weather change and humidity etc. It is interesting how curly wants straight and vice versa. Have fun camping!!

I understand that many young American girls are participating in beauty & talent shows and so this spa aspect has probably derived from that. Think of how Jon Bennet Ramsey looked as an example.

So I was able to read the article after you fixed it, bella. Bikini waxes for 8-year-olds????? Do they even HAVE a bikini line? That’s some crazy mess right there.

Okay, I was about to get indignant at the idea of people balking @ children getting manis/pedis, because my teenaged daughter has been getting them since she was about 6 or 7. She’s always been so boyish and that has been the only girly thing she’s ever been into,( I mean she’s never even liked dolls, can you believe it? LOL) so I’ve been glad to indulge that(she also has the prettiest feet I’ve ever seen, ha!).

Howvever, after reading that article, I’m sitting here bugging completely out. My eyes even welled up, and I can’t determine whether the feeling coursing through me is sadness, anger, bewilderment or a combination of it all. *sigh*

Amen on that letter to Oprah. I saw that episode and thought the exact same thing. Makeover shows really need to cut out the killing of curly hair. I wonder what the response will be.
