Tuesday in the nation’s capital. During this historic day, the question millions have been waiting for will finally be answered. Yeah, yeah, yeah – Barack Obama will be sworn in as the nations’s 44th president. History, hope, and change. Now where is MICHELLE and what is she WEARING?
And just moments ago, there she was — resplendent in yellow, glittering in a Isabel Toledo ensemble. Do you love it, or do you love it?
** edited at 9:30 a.m. January 21 — for the evening inaugural ball, Michelle wore a stunning one-shouldered gown by Jason Wu.
Barack appeared as taken with it as fans of Mrs. O are — look at how lovingly he gazed at her during their first dance at the inaugural neighborhood ball. And Beyonce? You killed it. The joy is so evident in your face as you sang. What a moment. What a day!
Here’s to a new first lady setting the fashion standard in Washington DC!

She always exudes such sophistication, class and poise! Welcome to the White House First Lady Michelle Obama!

She looks WONDERFUL…
January 20th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
Can’t say that I cared for her outfit….but you know what it really doesn’t matter. There is a family living in the White House that looks just my mine…and they aren’t there to cook or clean.
January 20th, 2009 at 1:53 pm
I loved it.
January 20th, 2009 at 2:03 pm

OH HAPPY DAY!!!!!!
OH HAPPY DAY!!!!!!
I am really not concerned about anyones wardrobe today. I am just in awe of this moment in American history. I am so GRATEFUL to all of the people, who suffered and died….Dr. King, Medger Evars, little Emmett Till, Rosa Parks, and all the other nameless people….black, white and all the others who’s sacrifice for FREEDOM and JUSTICE for ALL made this day possible.
I am eternally grateful to the Obama’s for their sacrifice, because with their education and background they could have done anything with their lives, but they did this.
THANK YOU!!!
January 20th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
I did love her outfit – I think it is more ornate that what we’re used to seeing her in. Michelle Obama always looks good. She looks confident, able, and downright jazzy – I LOVE our new first family!!!
January 20th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
p.s. I am so happy he used his middle name when taking the oath, and he acknowledged the Muslim community.
President Barack Hussein Obama!!!!!
I love it!
January 20th, 2009 at 3:54 pm
Her outfit is stunning.
January 20th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
She looked beautiful this morning. I loved it.
January 20th, 2009 at 6:12 pm
I liked the outfit, but she looked cold!! I hope she’s not sick tomorrow.
January 20th, 2009 at 6:21 pm
…and HE looked positively Devine!
January 20th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
From head to toe she is a classic beauty!
A ray of light!

i actually didn’t absolutely love it – well, maybe just the colour – but michelle is a beautiful, fierce woman so i think she looks fabulous all the same. and congratulations to all americans on this incredible day!!
January 20th, 2009 at 8:36 pm
Her outfit was splendid. It was a beautiful day for everyone. The sun was out for the inauguration. Mum and I were moved by the event. This is truly history and all of us are a part of it. Absolutely beautiful!
January 20th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
I loved the dress, I thought she looked beautiful and glowing. I even wear that myself
January 20th, 2009 at 9:25 pm
Tres chic is what I think, and her style was also evident in the styles Malia and Sasha wore! 10 points ladies
January 20th, 2009 at 9:36 pm
Beautiful dress (could have done without the stockings).
January 20th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
Her dress was gorgeous – that color was divine on her.
I can’t wait to see what else Michelle wears tonight at the balls. Her white gown was pretty but not a showstopper.
January 20th, 2009 at 10:29 pm
Glorious Gold! but the Ball Dress was not what she should have worn…same with Beyonce’s ball dress.
January 20th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
I never thought anyone would be able to divert my eyes from Denzel, but Obama in white tie did it for me tonight!
January 20th, 2009 at 11:33 pm
I’m sure the outfit was beautiful in and of itself but I can’t look at anything that shade of green without thinking of my great-aunt’s 70’s light green tweed patterned yet cheaply woven furniture that I hated with a passion.
January 21st, 2009 at 5:49 am
I loved it.
And the girls looked so cute in their J. Crewcuts outfits.
Yesterday was an incredible day.
YES WE DID!
January 21st, 2009 at 9:42 am
I loved her attire! Our first lady was beautiful and classy, as usual!
January 21st, 2009 at 10:39 am
I think Michelle Obama looked so wonderful. Her clothes were classic shapes with a new twist of colour and shimmer. However the most amazing part of her ensemble was her smile and obvious love and pride in her husband and family. I enjoy watching Barack and Michelle Obama together because they really look like friends and partners.
January 21st, 2009 at 10:56 am
It took me a minute, but I warmed up to the color. I agree with Maddheadgirl: I just love to see the four of them together, they way they interact is just amazing. And the First Family looks like MY family!!
January 21st, 2009 at 11:15 am
I did like it…it was a bit conservative but I loved the color and the lightness of it. I loved how she was ladylike for the day and equally ladylike in- an -I still- got- it- kind -of -way with the James Woo dress.
Like Beyonce’s dress but the highlights were showing- I think even Stevie Wonder could see them.
January 21st, 2009 at 11:29 am
She really did look lovely at the ball.
January 21st, 2009 at 12:09 pm
I really liked both outfits. They were beautiful and in keeping with her personal style. The Jason Wu was really elegant. Beyonce sang very well.
January 21st, 2009 at 12:27 pm
Michelle and Barack are the epitome of all things fabulous!
January 21st, 2009 at 12:38 pm
I was in DC yesterday with 2 million people when President Obama took “a most sacred oath”. I will remember that moment for the rest of my life. I will remember jumping and screaming his name, and hugging random strangers when he finished his inaugural address. I’ve never felt so happy in my entire life! It was a life-changing experience to see the hopes and dreams of immigrants, my parents, personified in a man, who came from nothing to the highest office in the world.
I loved Michelle’s outfits – LOVEEE the color green, and her gown at the ball was amazing. Beyonce has never really done it for me, but watching her sing brought tears to my eyes. I knew she was feeling the exact same thing I was.
January 21st, 2009 at 2:26 pm
I love it and I’m still basking in the sun from such a great day!
January 21st, 2009 at 3:17 pm
Now THAT’S BLACK LOVE!!!
Go head Obamas!
January 21st, 2009 at 3:19 pm
I loved the yellow suit she wore to the Inauguration. I loved the way her arms, shoulders, and back looked in her gown. She is built and her arms looked so sexy and toned. But when she was dancing with Barack I was dying because it was sooooooooooooo romantic and cute! I loved the way he looked at her. I just wanted to say “go get your woman because you are THE MAN”. He looked so dashing and I loved the way he smiled and I squealed every time he kissed her cheek. It made me want a man to dance with. They are just dreamy and I want their family to be my family!!!!
January 21st, 2009 at 3:39 pm
BlackHoney, if you had been out there you would have wondered why she didn’t have on thicker stockings! Whoo it was COLD.
I liked her inaugural wear better than the ball gown (just not a fan on things one-sleeved) but they were MARVELOUS. I can’t even begin to describe…
January 21st, 2009 at 5:37 pm
Definitely beauty radiated not only from Michelle but from Barack, Sasha and Malia as well. The beauty of black love in all of its power, unashamed, unapologetic. Beautiful!
January 21st, 2009 at 9:26 pm
I know this is going to sound crazy but…watching that video, combined with seeing him sitting at the Oval Office earlier today, I think I’m finally starting to believe that we really do have a black man in the White House…and a COOL BROTHA at that.
Yeah, I know, I saw the inauguration, I participated in the election…hell, I voted for him in the IOWA CAUCUS! woot woot! But part of my mind is STILL trying to wrap itself around the notion that this country actually elected a black person to the presidency. Maybe it’ll hit me more when I see Guantanamo closed, or peace in the Mideast…
Um, anyway…Michelle. Loved the inaugural outfit, wasn’t feeling the ball gown so much. Was DEFINITELY feeling that dance, though!
January 21st, 2009 at 9:46 pm
They are my new favorite couple. First Lady Michelle is truly awesome. I’d almost be happy if she was the president haha
January 22nd, 2009 at 12:57 am
What would have been really GREAT is if the producers of the Neighborhood Ball had actually gotten Etta James to sing her classic song. I’m a young old-head (37) (as Michael Baisden puts it) and I wish Beyonce would go away for a while.
January 22nd, 2009 at 7:55 am
They look great.
January 22nd, 2009 at 10:16 am
Michelle looked absolutely beautiful. I was just in complete awe of her and the family.
January 22nd, 2009 at 1:42 pm
Love Michelle, she’s beautiful, classy, spirited & intelligent as hell.
Now, having said that, I will say that I did like the Inaugural outfit, just didn’t care for the white ball gown. Too much going on with white, frills & one shoulder. Not her best choice. She has such potential though, in the end, I think she’ll get it all together & just start blowing them away.
IF that’s even what she cares about doing, anyways… I mean, priorities, priorities, right? LOL…
January 22nd, 2009 at 6:14 pm
@ Mochasiren
I agree! I thought the same thing. It would have been more meaningful to an artist who endured segregated clubs and hotels to practice her craft 40 years ago to sing “AT LAST”.
As far as Michelle’s style I think she dresses appropriately for her age and build. I am not a fan of every outfit but she is never tacky and that is all that matters to me. I preferred the yellow outfit instead of the white gown and that is my 2 cents.
Oh…I am so glad that she is just a wonderfully beautiful regular looking black woman that our regular looking girls can look up to. Yeh!

ROYALE !
January 24th, 2009 at 2:08 pm
royal is the word.
what i like about michelle obama’s style is that she is so girly and womanly and playful and adventurous. she’s just such a woman. — i love seeing smart, cool women in dresses. i can’t take that hillary clinton model of what a professional smart woman should look like and talk like.
but my favorite thing is her love of texture and detail. i love that her clothing doesn’t fully translate over television because those cameras can’t quite make sense out of the tones in the colors and the shimmer, the touchability of her clothes.
she’s wonderful.
at the same time — her style is suited to her age and i’m a generation younger than her. i don’t want to have to choose between first Sunday “professional” wear, androgynous, sportiness and hoochie mama over-exposure.
and i hate office wear functional type clothing. ugh.
it’s not easy to figure out how to look womanly at wonderful in your 30s.
i think michelle obama offers some indications in general principles of color, texture, and humor. and then they can be adapted to be somehow more youthful.
and praise song for the tall women!!!!!!
January 24th, 2009 at 6:54 pm
Michelle Obama was simply radiant, elegant, and beautiful. Just what the world needed to see in America’s first lady.
