The day job I’ve talked about endlessly on this site, finally comes to an end today. So excuse me if I’m a little extra bubbly, bellas and fellas! I’ve put in four and a half solid years of employment, and today I graduate from the Village Voice Media family. I will sincerely miss my co-workers and many aspects of my job, but still — I feel like my life is beginning anew. I feel like I’m about to graduate from college, but there is no fear. Only excitement. And Janelle Monae’s Lettin’ Go is my theme song.
Sure, Miss Monae’s song is about being let go by your employer, but the feeling of the song relates perfectly to my own circumstances. It’s a brand new day, and I’m gonna live my own life.
Wish me luck and light, y’all. And if you’ve got any great last-day-at-work theme song suggestions, send em my way!

Congrats Bella! You and Mr. Bella will enjoy your new life in Chi-Town. I applaud your bravery. A good theme song, I think, is “I’m Coming Out” by Diana Ross.

Well, damn, you took my first song suggestion (I actually play this song on the drive away from work nearly everyday).
Jill Scott’s “Golden” is always a good one for me: taking your freedom.

Much congrats in your new journey. You never know the gifts that God has in store. Where you may feel the anxiety of the unknown I truly believe he blesses us for following our hearts and his direction.
