Afrobella on Essence.com!

You know when you’ve got big awesome exciting news and you wanna share it, but it isn’t the right time, so you keep it inside yourself and it kinda feels like you’re holding your breath? That’s how I’ve been feeling for oh, a couple of months now. And finally I can exhale and tell you all the good news!

I’m going to be writing a weekly blog over at Essence.com – Natural Hair Journeys. The very first subject? The lovely Renisha James. Renisha is a personal trainer marathon runner, and fitness expert here in Chicago – check out her blog Renewed Fitness, and follow her on Twitter for inspiration and guidance!

The point and purpose of Essence’s Natural Hair Journeys is quite simply, to inspire. So many women here and around the world are recognizing the same truth Renisha did. You don’t need long, straightened-by-any-means-necessary hair to be beautiful. Your beauty radiates from within, and no matter what texture or length your hair is, it’s a wonderful and special thing to love yourself and know that you are beautiful just the way you were born to be.

Of course I’m still going to be blogging here just as regularly as ever! But I hope you also go to
Essence.com and leave encouraging, inspiring comments for the women I feature. Pretty please?

If you’ve recently transitioned to natural hair and would like to be featured in Essence’s Natural Hair Journeys, please send me an e mail and high quality photos to essencenaturalhair@gmail.com.

Agreed! It’s great to hear that you’re leveraging those great time management skills for Essence online. It’ll be fun to see the occasional comment in the offline mag too so I hope that happens for you!

Congratulations!!! This is an amazing opportunity not just for your career (which is blowing up in an amazing way!) but also for us natural ladies to get more inspiration and encouragement. I’m already an Essence mag fan but this is icing on the cake 🙂

How absolutely wonderful for you. I am both proud and inspired. I love your blog here so I am sure you are gonna be doing great things over there. Question: How long is newly transitioned? I have been natural for a year. Does that count towards getting featured? Lol. Hopefully I’ll hear back from you.
    Congratulations. You deserve it.

Hi, I think your website might be having browser compatibility issues.
When I look at your website in Opera, it looks fine but when opening
in Internet Explorer, it has some overlapping. I just wanted
to give you a quick heads up! Other then that, wonderful blog!
