They keep trying to say that nail art is a dying trend, but I refuse to believe. I see the appeal in a more sedate manicure from time to time, but my spirit is drawn to statement nails that make heads turn. Lately I’ve been into at-home pampering, and this weekend as part of my Sunday evening beauty ritual, I gave myself a manicure. You know, no big. But the results have been astounding.
This manicure was SO incredibly easy, and I’ve gotten nothing but compliments on it. Literally a man on the street stopped me and asked to see my nails yesterday. Let me break it down for you in three easy steps.
1 – I usually like to use a base coat that strengthens my nails, and lately I’ve been using Sally Hansen Double Duty Base and Top Coat, because it’s multi-use and it works for me! For other base coat recommendations, check out Beautylish – great selection, informative reviews. Base coat makes a difference to me for sure.
2 – then I brushed on two coats of Estee Lauder “Pure Color” nail lacquer in Smoked Chrome. I love the texture of these new Estee Lauder nail lacquers. I have this inability to use thinner formulas effectively. I can’t paint on a thin coat of nail polish to save my life. These Estee Lauder nail lacquers glide on with density, and they dry down quickly to a soft, chic matte metallic finish.
3 – the fun part. I love that people think I have the skills to pull off this kind of nail detailing myself! No, my loves – this is Nail Lingerie. L’Oreal Nail Lingerie in In With The New, to be specific. These are clear nail stickers with a little embellishment on them (hence, lingerie). I stick them to my nail starting at the base and work my way up to the tip, trying to get the stickers stuck as smoothly as possible. Told you I was obsessed with nail stickers!
And that’s it! Chic, eye-catching, and totally easy to do yourself!
What do you think? Do you think nail art’s on the way out, or not? And what are your favorite at home manicure embellishments?
