Lane Bryant introduced their latest designer collaboration with ready-to-wear designer Prabal Gurung in the March issue of Vogue, which hit stands March 14. I caught a peek of the line in a video the brand released, and I just have to say one thing: I’ll be at Lane Bryant as soon as they drop this line because I have to have that skirt with lace-up details on both sides!
However, what is more important than a sexy skirt that will hug my curves in all the right places is Gurung’s stance on plus size women in the fashion industry. During New York Fashion Week, the designer sent plus size models down the runway during his show in shirts that read, “Our minds, our body, our power.” With so many designers still refusing to dress and design for plus size women, it’s empowering to see Gurung pledge his commitment to inclusivity at fashion’s biggest show of the year, and then state it again with a stunning collaboration from the plus size mecca itself, Lane Bryant.
In this collection, Gurung breaks all the old school rules and gives plus size women exactly what they have been asking for: accessible, fitted, fashion-forward garments.
“I am grateful to the Lane Bryant team for giving us the opportunity to create beautiful clothes that celebrate women who inspire us,” said Gurung. “Our goal has always been to create a luxury brand with soul, and inclusion is inherent to this ideal.”
The 12-piece line includes a minimalistic jumpsuit, full skirts, and form fitting dresses paired with feminine florals and bold color blocking. Don’t let the florals fool you. These refined patterns elevate the garments and will hopefully set the stage for how florals will be used from here on out.
“At Lane Bryant, we see all women as beautiful, and worthy of being celebrated. This is why we continue to partner with talented designers like Prabal, who are as inspired by our client as we are,” said Lane Bryant chief marketing officer Brian Beitler. “Our mission is to empower her to dress as she likes, with fashion she wants and deserves, leading our brand to continue our message of body-inclusively for #ThisBody through the Prabal Gurung x Lane Bryant collection launch.”
The Prabal Gurung X Lane Bryant collection will be available in select Lane Bryant stores and on the brand’s website starting February 27, 2017. The line ranges from $38 for a T–shirt to $398 for a leather jacket and will be sold in sizes 10-28.
