My Armpits Smell like Ice Cream!

by afrobella

I can be really picky about buying certain products. A perfect example is deodorant. All my life, I’ve lived in hot, sticky places. The average temperature in Trinidad ranges from 74 to 91 degrees, and here in Miami it can be unbearably steamy. The last thing any woman wants is to be smelly, or to have pit stains. I have had many a mishap with deodorant purchases. I’ve wound up with nasty LL Cool J MTV Unplugged ‘Mama Said Knock You Out’ globs, and in one memorable instance, a product by a familiar urban beauty maven (let’s see if anyone can guess the brand before I out them) burned the hell out of my tender armpits. There are so many factors to consider in choosing the right deodorant. Some women care more about antiperspirant strength, some worry about finding a sensitive skin/alcohol free brand. My vegetarian friends tend to stick to all-natural varieties I just want to smell good and have dry armpits regardless of the weather outside, or my level of activity. I’ve tried just about every major variety of roll-ons and solids. For a while I was stuck on Kiehl’s Superbly Efficient Anti-Perspirant & Deodorant. This was my first experience with deodorant cream (which seems like such a quaint concept. Who buys that goop they sell at the drugstore, and applies deodorant with their bare hands? Gross.), and I must say that Kiehl’s made me a believer. It rubs on smooth, and doesn’t leave opaque white stains on my clothing. It’s even improved the quality of my shaving. The clean (almost medicinal) non-scent doesn’t clash with my perfume, and I didn’t find myself sweating profusely, as had occurred when I tried some of the other natural varieties. My tree-hugging friends were delighted that I had made the switch. I was betrothed to Kiehl’s for about two months before I cheated on it with a glittering, highly fragranced harlot.

Seriously, I saw it in the store and thought “Oooh, vanilla.” I may even have said it aloud, right there in the aisle at Target. So I’ve been rocking the Secret Platinum vanilla sparkle clear gel for almost the entire month of August, and I have nary a complaint. The initial scent reminds me of vanilla vodka (which I happen to like), the sparkle factor is blissfully minimal, and for the first time in my life I’ve actually invited my friends and co-workers to sniff my armpits. Just cause I’m that much of a product junkie goofball.

I’m loving this product. The vanilla scent compliments my perfumes, and there are seven other equally feminine scents to choose from. This product totally passes the summertime heat test. If you’re the kind of girly girl who doesn’t worry about which company makes a product (or if you care, but can’t resist the hypnotic allure of vanilla sparkling deodorant), I’d say go for the Secret. It costs $3.99 and is available at just about every store where deodorant is sold. If you have ethical concerns about animal testing, then go for the Kiehl’s. It costs $10.50 and is only available at their stores.

All those sound nice and girly. I have a good female friend who recently switched to the “guy” deodorant Mitchum. She had tried a lot of different stuff in the past and she swears by it. I suppose if it does the job, it does the job.

Yo E-Fresh! I used Mitchum for a while as well, the powder fresh scent if I recall. It worked well, no complaints. I’m just a sucker for new shit. I think Kiehl’s is actually a unisex product, their packaging certainly doesn’t pitch them to a specific demographic. They also make this musk cologne that’s unisex, and a certain guy we both know used all of my Kiehl’s musk body wash. So it’s definitely got that manly factor.

Hey Bella! I love the site by the way. Anyways I totally understand the deodorant problem. I switched so many deodorants because they felt like they “melted off” or they would burn my underarms. I found my Savior product…Adidas Absorbent Deodorant. It’s around 3 dollars and I don’t sweat at all and there’s no white cake or marks on my clothes. Also there’s no aluminum so it won’t burn your skin.
