Last week the weather was unseasonably warm. The mere taste of 60 degree temperatures was enough to bring Chicago out into the streets. Around the downtown loop, it felt like Spring despite the bare trees and dwindling snowpiles. Just enough time for me to dream of Spring and the clothes and shoes I’m dying to wear. Indulge me for a moment, while I daydream about the clothes I plan to wear as soon as the weather allows.
Skirts.
All day, every day.
Having grown up with a mother who constantly begged me to “just wear a nice skirt,” I was skirt resistant for many years. But as I grew to be a woman, I put away childish things…like my aversion to skirts. I feel beautiful when I wear them, and they accentuate my femininity to most flattering advantage. I know they’re not for everyone, but I am a fan of the maxi skirt. Love that this style is having a resurgence, and I found some chic options at One Stop Plus. The thing for me is to not go head over heels into floral print hippie-skirt-land. I like my maxi’s in bold colors, sans pattern, paired with a slim fitting top and a cool jacket or cardi. That flowy, ballet dancer look. This cotton skirt by Jessica London has the fullness I love, this Asos Curve maxi skirt could be a springtime wardrobe staple, and SWAK Designs has one on sale for $14.99!
Flats.
Don’t get me wrong, I love a sturdy pair of winter boots…but they feel wrong on my feet. They’re heavy and clunky and I miss the feeling of light, effortless footwear. I miss FLATS. It’s flats week over at Must Luvv Shoes and I’m absolutely lusting after the leopard pair! I was lucky enough to be sent a timeless and elegant pair of Tory Burch Eddie ballet flats and I absolutely can’t wait till it’s warm enough for me to wear them! Preferably with one of the maxi skirts mentioned above!
Sunglasses.
Yes, you can wear sunglasses in the winter. Oftentimes I find that I need them, not to protect my eyes against the sun but rather from the arctic blasts of wind and snow that come blustering down the thoroughfares of Michigan Avenue. I can’t wait to slip on a pair of sunnies for their intended purpose again! Sun, I MISS YOU. I was introduced to the amazing Solstice Sunglasses via the host with the most, Robert Verdi who featured their products at his Tweet This party during New York Fashion Week. I LOVE the range of designer sunglasses they’ve got for sale, and the prices are pretty good as far as these things go. All I know is, these Juicy Couture sunnies belong on my face. They will be mine. Oh yes, they will be mine.
Brights.
I miss green leaves and beautiful flowers. I miss people wearing color, instead of shades of gray. See the landing page on Monif C’s site? That’s what I miss. Love the new colors she’s offering in her convertible dresses! That’s the palette I’m looking forward to. Summertime Chi, so close and yet so far away.
Those are the clothes and accessories I’m daydreaming about as I lace up my boots and zip up my winter coat, bellas. How’s the weather where you are? See anything you’d be head over heels for?

I feel you so hard. I live in one of the collar counties of Chicago, and I am SO OVER THE SNOW! I can’t wait for spring. I’m super pumped for dresses, peep toe heels, light jackets, colors, my fro to not be so dry (it hates the winter), and most importantly, HEAT! I really like these skirts you put up. I will be looking into these, and praying to God for no more snow.

I live in Louisiana, and it is in the 70’s already! That means we will definitely get in the 100’s by summer…but, for now, I am enjoying our beautiful early spring weather and the few flowers springing up. 🙂 I love the vibrant colors people are beginning to wear, and that I can now wear flats!

Spring actually seems to be on his way back here in Houston, but I am adoring all of the colors in the last image!!! I am going for big bold colors this Spring!

I’m in the maxi skirt mood too! I have a black Ralph Lauren maxi dress that I’ve had for years, but I never tripped on long skirts until recently. (Why are plus size skirts always so long?! Not cute, maxi skirt long but 4 inches below the knee long which does not look cute on most people?! I mean the grown woman skirts, not the junior ones like at Torrid. I’m always hemming them – and I’m 5’9!) Anyway – I just got a great brown one from eBay but am on the hunt for a red one that’s not cotton – a matte jersey tube maxi would be perfect! If you see anything close…..

The weather isn’t quite as bad here in SF, just rainy and dark. I also have maxi skirts on the brain — I’ve been daydreaming about this grass green one from Michael Kors: http://bit.ly/fNATt6 (at Saks.com). I feel warmer and happier just looking at it.

Even though I’m in Chicago as well, I can sense the that Spring is almost here. I can’t wait to pack up my winter/fall gear, and go shopping for a new spring wardrobe.

YES! I’m still a Chicagoan, though I now live farther north–I hate winter and can’t wait for SPRING!!!!

Thank you posting the links to the skirts. I have ordered one and plan to order another one. I’m a 12/14 so I’m hoping the 14/16 won’t be too big. We’ll see.
