When it comes to wardrobe musts and fashion do’s, I tend to steer on the side of “do you!” – meaning that the old rules don’t apply anymore. We’re in a time when fashion is truly about self expression and whatever fits and flatters you, is the perfect thing to wear. Having said all of that, the more I grow up into the full adult woman that I am, the more I find myself adhering to old rules and wardrobe staples I may have once dismissed as fusty.

Take for example, the Little Black Dress. Everyone says you need at least one in your closet, right? I’m gonna go ahead and say WRONG. Me, myself, personally — I need at least four. At least one of them can be a BMD or Black Maxi Dress. But wait, what about a Black Midi Dress? Or a LBLD, a Little Black Leather Dress? The possibilities are endless and the look is timeless.

Plus Size Little Black Dresses

This season I’m observing more and more super cute LBD’s on virtual and actual store shelves. Allow me to share a few of the faves I’m eyeing as must haves for my wardrobe (and yours)! Here are the perfect plus size little black dresses WE need ASAP!

Girl-With-Curves-Holiday-2014-Look-Book-3-800x800

tulle hem party dress designed and modeled by Taneisha Awasthi, AKA Girl With Curves!

Girl With Curves – Allow me to gush for a moment, over the amazing Taneisha Awasthi. She’s a blogger extraordinare whose style I’ve long adored, and now she has her own clothing line. And it’s AMAZING! Click here to shop Girl With Curves! There are multiple, covetable LBD’s in her collection, but the two that are CALLING me are her high/low skater dress (so trendy yet timeless) and her tulle hem party dress which is just EVERYTHING. I need! I love! So well done, Taneisha! (Hat tip to The Curvy Fashionista, whose post had me GAGGING over every dress)!

The Isla dress by Igigi

Igigi – I’ll admit it, I love Igigi dresses. I own several and wear them repeatedly because the quality is on point. This season they’ve got some gorgeous LBD’s in stock, but my favorite is the Isla, which also comes in fuchsia vine and leopard. RAWR. The cut of the Isla is the kind I know my body looks best in, and I also am digging the Adelle dress with the sheer windowpane overlay skirt – modern yet vintage, perfect for a holiday occasion or a stylish wedding!

Macy’s – I’ll admit it. I got turned out by Macy’s during that awesome summer campaign we did. I still keep my eye out for dresses to die for, and they’ve got some killer LBD’s in stock right now, and a few LMD’s too. Take for example this sick Michael Kors studded maxi number. Love the subtle stud and slit details! And this Calvin Klein A line dress is the epitiome of an LBD you’ll wear all the time. Trust me, I have it in red and it rules!

Marisota LBD

black flocked dress by Joe Brown for Marisota

Marisota – Nobody ever said a LBD had to be totally solid, and I like where this black flocked dress by Joe Brown for Marisota is taking it. Black on black leopard print, I am here for you.

Monif C’s “Jenna” asymmetrical draped dress

Monif C – Monif C will always be one of my favorite plus size designers, because she GETS us. Being a plus sized woman herself, Monif knows what we’re looking for. Her dresses fit beautifully and they celebrate curves instead of seeking to downplay our assets. Her Jenna” asymmetrical draped dress is such a sexy, stunning, and statement making take on the classic LBD. Love it!

Eloquii LBD

Studio Studded Yoke Contour Dress by Eloquii

Eloquii – Here’s the thing with the new and improved and awesome Eloquii – if you see something, BUY it. Because it won’t be around forever. The clothing is of quality, the fit is phenomenal, and they keep the collections flowing – there’s always something new and beautiful to covet. They’ve got LBD’s galore, but for me the standout is the Studio Studded Yoke Contour Dress. It’s a sure fire showstopper!

Lane Bryant LBD

faux leather and ponte sheath dress by Lane Bryant

Lane Bryant – Listen. The time has come to throw away your old assumptions and impressions of ye olde Lane Bryant. They’re innovating their aesthetic, partnering with designers like Isabel Toledo and Sophie Theallet. Their clothes are edgier, slicker, cooler. Take for example, this faux leather and ponte sheath dress, modeled to perfection by the beautiful Philomena Kwao. So sexy! Consider this for your winter date night.
