Curl Couture! Fashion’s Night Out FUN with Beautiful Textures

by afrobella

Fashion’s Night Out can be too much and too crazy – especially in New York. But it’s still one of my favorite parts of fashion week. I love that it’s made fashion an EVENT. I love that it’s made fashion a democracy. Now it’s up to you how to celebrate – if you’re into makeup, there are makeup events. If you’re into high end or low end fashion, there are events at stores for those things too. And for glamorous women who love healthy and beautiful hair regardless if it’s natural or not, curly or straight – there was the Beautiful Textures event at the Metropolitan Pavilion. I was so honored to be there as part of the team of Hair Divas, to show off my style and meet so many amazing people!

Peep my makeup, hair, and outfit below!

My hair was styled by the super awesome Derek Scully, who took a small curling iron and quickly wrapped tiny pieces of hair around it to create this adorable look! Absolutely loved his energy, and the makeup artist was also AMAZING. I borrowed jewelry from one of the event organizers, and wore a dress custom made for me by my beloved Sofistafunk.

I wanted a 1950’s prom dress in leopard and I think they delivered! The top of the dress is light and sheer, so even though the cut is modest, this is still a sexy dress. I paired it with the Salcha bag from Shoedazzle. I rocked this bag EVERYWHERE. And I wore a pair of Jeffrey Campbell heels that was KILLING ME by the end of the night. Ah well. That’s part of that fashion week game.

I worked the event alongside some of the most illustrious online editors/bloggers in the game! From left to right, that’s the legendary Tia Williams of Shake Your Beauty, then that’s me and the gorgeous might-as-well-be-a-model Kala Garner of The KG Theory and Black Hair Power, and in that gorgeous yellow print dress is Geneva Thomas of NBC/The Grio.

The cocktails were flowing, the ladies were loving the gift bags of Beautiful Textures products, and the music was bumpin! The event was hosted by Teyana Taylor, and she’s Kanye West’s  G.O.O.D. Music label’s newest signee!

Teyana Afrobella Corbit

That’s Essence Magazine beauty director and That Black Girl Site creator Corynne Corbett (LOVE her!), Teyana, and yours truly.

Ty Hunter

The fly guy in the graffiti print suit is Ty Hunter, AKA @TyTryOne, Beyonce’s stylist! I got to chat with him later on during fashion week and he is SUCH a down to earth sweetheart. So glad we met.

My boos Christina of Love Brown Sugar, Danielle of The Style & Beauty Doctor, Lexi of LexiWithTheCurls, Jessica of Glamazons Blog and Eboni of Fashionista Next Door all stopped by to show love. We always have fun together! And they all looked gorgeous – here they are with Teyana Taylor stylin’ and profilin’.

Thanks to Charlene Bastien, Bria N. Bryant of Haute Behaviour, Nicole Garner of Garner Circle PR and Kimberly Walker for working so hard on such an amazing event. It was such a pleasure!

Did you do anything for FNO? Tell me!

Love every bit of your look. Looking at your style is helping me break out of my dependence on black and gray to try new things. I’m making baby steps on the accessories and finally rocking my hair naturally curly 100% of the time. Next is to get a little more fearless with the makeup. Thanks for being such a good resource.
